God I love Danko. God Bless that man. Levon too. What a group of talent they were. The Basement Tapes hit me like a ton of lead when I discovered it. I was an obsessive Dylan fan at the time, living among the banks of the Seine in Paris, when I picked up that album and was just floored. Sounded like a troupe of circus musicians or something. Never heard anything like it, even to this day.

If you can make people forget their trouble for just a little while, and remember you, you've done your job. The essense of The Band. Somehow, music, pro sports, acting, politics... It's all gone the wrong way. I lived and performed during the best period of music. Period. God bless these musical heroes.

So glad I came across this upload today. I sat and watched all episodes, thank you to big pinkerton for making this available to view. Shame about the copyright issues, as a fan of The Band I know what's up, but still well worth watching. RIP Levon, RIP Richard, RIP Rick. To quote lyrics of a song by Marc Cohn, "...I was lost, I was gone, listening to Levon, in another world, in another place."

The day I heard of Richard was so very sad. I was but 18, the date happens to also be my Sisters' Birthday so I always am reminded of the tragedy which befell Richard and ALL whose life he touched with the music he and the rest of The Band played for us all. And THANK YOU ALL for ALL of the music you guys did play for us. It`s such a bloody shame the record companies are involved in the making of records. I mean talk of Thieves and how discouraging it must have been and still seems to be so at the very near root of the entire business. Too bad we don`t get a second chance to stop and look over all the people who will or would be hurt by such an extreme action. He and the rest of The Band touched me close to my heart when I was very young, I THANK THEM ALL FOR THAT GIFT IN WHICH THEY SHARED WITH THE WORLD!!!!! THANK YOU Robbie, Garth so much!!! Your BEAUTIFUL music will live on FOREVER!!!!! Brad Rodgers, a fellow Canadian.🙂

Was he asked? None of us know the conversations that were had by all involved. Only they know. Another funny thing about the documentary is none of the members talked about drugs and drug addiction which was the real culprit to the dismantling of the Band in the first place. I’d drop to my knees in reverence to all of them for respect to their supreme musical talent, skill, artistry and abilities. Collectively they were all the best of the best and I’m sad we never got to see more of the magic they coulda created. I’m not taking sides one way or the other, I loved them all for their contributions to the musical world and still marvel at their exceptional and exquisite musical talents both as individuals and as a band.

@@jeffmitchell9863 Really do you know how many lyrics Robbie wrote, he was up writing in the morning, when the others, except Garth, was sleeping in because they had partied the night before. They all did drugs including Robbie, but Robbie and Garth stayed away from heroin. It is ridiculous to say Robbie had no talent, don't think you have done too much research. Robbie did the research, went to the library to read of on the Civil War and the expulsion of the Arcadian's, for Arcadian Driftwood. Your comment is very ignorant.

Not so much of a BAND> Meanwhile the idea of "being part of the heartbreakers" Literally +KILLED Tom Petty.. The last tour, TP KNEW he had a crack in his hip, BUT WOULD NOT STOP" needing Pain killers, and at the end, the Hip was fully fractured. Such a sad story for this beautiful band . I think that doing the last waltz was a pretty big mistake overall because after that it became just " boring ", like they were booked to play the same tune over and over with nothing new or few new song which were mainly covers and so they just became an old band surviving. Even if i think the problem due to the publishing and song writting credit was real, robbertson pointed a good point tellin that none of them were writing anything significant except him, because they did not do anything after he left and god damn how talented they were ... Such a waste! Alcohol and drugs are a pain . sad stuff

Levon never wrote a song after the Band broke up. Robbie was the writer. Levon was great but not a songwriter. Wheels on Fire is Levon's book so it's his (very bitter) version of events. Even with that he never claimed to be the "main songwriter" as you put it.

Wheels on Fire is Levon's account, of course he will make it favorable to him. It is well documented that Levon did not write the songs, it he wrote one or two, or co wrote he was properly credited. It you want a balanced view read Barney Hoskyns biograhpy of The Band "Across the great divide". He is critical of Robbie, but fair, and he points out everyone's shortcomings.

Robbie did not kill The Band, drugs killed The Band. Robbie got to a point where he was exhausted from being the caretaker, 3 members were doing heroin, besided that Robbie by mid 1974 was married with 3 small children, he wanted more time with his family. He had been touring since he was 16. His son wrote on Robbie his Facebook page when Robbie turned 75, how happy he and his sisters were to have their dad back.
