My step dad,(the only dad I knew) was in the Royal Navy between 1915 and 1920. Yes, he was at the battle of Jutland. He died in 1973, I still think of him. He served on HMS Shannon, and Royal Oak. God bless the senior service.

Senior service, privellidged to have seen the band lead the ships company at recommisoning of HMS Spartan, wonderful day out.
Thank you for showing the Guard of Honour, so many others seem to want to exclude the Royal Navy element from their video's, they were in preparation and training for weeks for this away from their ships/bases, the polishing of buckles, scabbards and boots, cleaning of caps and pressing of white tops and blue jeans took many hours of their 'off-duty' time, I know my son is one of those in your video.
@Geordiegjs2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your very kind words. I wanted to include the Guard of Honour as these men and women represent our Royal Navy. Without them, there would be no Royal Marines! As a young Sea Cadet, I was in the Guard and I know how hard it is to get your kit up to standard with spit and polish, Brasso and whitening. I hope that he and his shipmates also enjoyed the video.

The grand old Duke of York, he had ten thousand men, he marches to up to top of the hill and marches up down again, and when they up they were up, and when they down they were down and when they were only half way up they were half way up nor down......Three years old amazing and my dad was a royal marine commando fighting for freedom with New Borneo 1964 but unfortunately I have had a stroke.

Yup. Did one or 30-odd worldwide from ships' ceremonies to major events, including as Officer of the Guard. Always impacts even as a member. During the Vietnam era, I have seen anti-war protesters break down in tears. One thing. It may be the editing here, but no evening gun? That is a vital part.

@Geordiegjs Welcome, I assure you. Keep up the good work. Presentation of the Navy and Marines and these Parades in these troubled times are vital, not just for the heritage and display, but to remind the folks that a generation of their young people are out there holding the Grey Line. Look at the Naval Prayer. For me. Grand memories of 1967 to 2014. So, we say in Navy Speak, BRAVO ZULU well done. So BZ DESIG YOU

I imagine those on parade were reservists. Having been in the navy we never marched as units. Only the reservists would have had the time to practice what was an excellent parade.
@Geordiegjs2 ай бұрын
Hi William, yes you would normally expect that but I understand from the families of those who took part that they were drawn from ships/bases across the service and volunteered to practice and drill in their own time over a period of months. If you have a look in the comments below. Thank you for taking the time to comment William, much appreciated.
