So many scenes stick out for me but the one where Dominic tries to ask Siobhan out is absolutely incredible, so realistic and moving. I really felt for all the characters in this film.

Barry Keoghan's performance was incredible. I went into the film expecting great performances from the other three main leads, but the character of Dominic, wow. I can't express it.

Dominic’s line “There goes that dream” is one of the most heartbreaking moments in modern cinema.

Depression and despair in an older man who is despondent that he has left nothing musically creative for the world to remember him by. He takes it out on the person who cares about him the most, the way most depressed people mistakenly do. Such an amazing film. Everyone is so damn sad and lonely, but the movie is beautiful in its darkness.

The detail that went into this was something to behold. A beautiful, low - key masterpiece that deserves to be rewatched.

This film is, as someone said, like reading a good novel. We’ve also watched it 5 times and it’s like finding another layer to unpeel each time. Amazing that we still double up watching Colm and the priest in the confessional and that the gut punch at the end, on the beach, still moves us so deeply.

Honestly hope this wins the Oscar! So incredible!

I have been thinking about this movie since I left the cinema and with every minute I recognize it to be better and better. Basically there is no weak scene, no irrelevant line, no boring charachter - everything from writing through casting and acting to filming is pure perfection.

The character of Dominic broke my heart.

If you ask me, Barry Keoghan should have been nominated for best supporting actor. His performance is just fantastic.

This film is so representative of Ireland, then and now. It stays with you after watching it, as it is layered and deep on many levels. It is a timeless masterpiece.

Everyone was brilliant. Gleeson is absolutely incredible, he has so much presence and mastery to him, and he and Farrell together are just amazing. With McDonagh in the mix, they all create total perfection, and there were some amazing additions to this crew, with Condon especially; she was so human and relatable. Absolutely incredible film. Absolutely incredible. Hands down the best film I have ever seen.

Reading everyone's takes on this movie is just so interesting! I think the beauty of art lies hugely on how it can be interpreted in so many different ways, that's just so beautiful. For me, I had a simpler interpretation of the characters. I have a cousin who is very dear to me, who lost her boyfriend and her best friend in a span of one year. Lost them as in they became cold and distant and when she inquired why they both said they were too depressed to put any effort into relationships of any kind. My cousin is still so heartbroken to this day. The other day she said to me just how cruel and heartless can someone be to simply decide they don't want a person who has given so much love to them for years. I feel like in this movie, Colm is a very depressed man, and this made him want to detach himself from people he loves (as depression has done to a lot of people). This abandonment broke Pàdraic so much, it changed something in him. It really showed when Dominic says to him how he used to be nice and now he isn't.. so I feel like heartbreak has changed him into a worse, crueler version of himself. So I guess what I mean is, rejection makes some people lose faith in love and in kindness; and as for others, like Dominic, they cannot handle cruelness and rejection at all, they'd rather not be around than change anything about themselves to cope. My thoughts are all over the place I'm sorry lol

This movie is hands down one of the best in the history of cinema. From the acting to the scenery. It blew me away the first time I saw it and it's amazing how there's always something new to unpack whenever I rewatch it, like a nesting doll. It initially seemed like it was a simple (yet quite violent) story of a broken friendship, but it perfectly encapsulates the different tragedies of each of the characters. What I also found interesting was this sort of foreshadowing in the film i.e. (1) when Officer Kearney told Mrs. O'Riordan about a man who committed suicide by drowning himself in the lake, then later on in the movie, he found the dead body of his own son, Dominic, in the lake; (2) the last shot of Colm and Pádraic at the beach with Mrs. McCormick watching them from afar, which seems to suggest that one of them will probably die soon from Pádraic's relentless pursuit of continuing their back-and-forth (given that Mrs. McCormick was the one who told Pádraic about the two deaths coming to Inisherin, it appears she was the metaphorical banshee on the island), and; (3) Dominic's first scene in the film in which he was showing this stick with a hook that he found and he was like, "What would you use this for?", not knowing that Mrs. McCormick would be using that very same stick to pull his floating corpse to shore. Anyway, those are just my observations. Everyone in this film was remarkable, but I'm especially happy for Barry Keoghan starting to get the recognition he deserves. 💚

There is a character arch with Padraig transitioning from a nice happy go lucky person to a bitter unhappy man. He lived a simple life, free of the burden of inner struggle. He's very content with his life on the island and tending to his animals. Colm suffers from some narcissism and secretly resents Padraig's contentment so sets about breaking his innocents. Padraig likes his life and fights to hold onto it. Then suddenly everyone around him is conspiring in their own way to take it away. Which is what the banshee meant when she said a man will die. By the end of the movie Padraig is a different person. Hardened by the experience, he's got a heavy heart and a stoic demeanor. He's become more like Colm, which is why he comments that he likes him more now.

Love this story, the actors, the director and screenplay. Awesome in every respect. Should win an Oscar.

I love how loud Kerry is she practically roars

I noticed something that speaks to the attention to detail of the director. In the scene in the pub when Padraig Sullivan chatises Colm and praises his sister, just before he confronts Colm, the trad group is playing a song. That song is "O'Sullivan's March" which I take to be a march into battle tune. Love it.

It's such a gorgeous film, I've loved every minute of it. It deserves all the Oscars it can get. I wanna see it more and more!

The significance of the film is immense. With a backdrop of the civil-war, it's a very complicated film dealing with the end of a relationship and the reluctance of Pàdraic's acceptance of it. A human trait some of us will recognise.

I want Colin's knitted sweater, from the interviews. I think it deserves an Oscar.

Someone on tiktok said that Jamaicans probably got their accent from the Irish... I thought it was a gag, but after listening to Barry Keoghan's accent as Dominic, I had to look it up. Turns out it's mostly true :') freaking uncanny. I will probably rewatch this brilliant film for Dom alone, poor fella.

Amazing movie, beautifully shot and directed, amazing performances from all the actors. The parallels of the war on the mainland and how they are played out in this story about two men falling out of friendship are so well done. Not a film for everyone, as your mainstream audiences will only see what’s on the surface of this story and find it weird and confusing, for those people, stick to your Superhero movies as they don’t require you to think. This movie is a masterpiece.

I really get where Brendan’s character is coming from. I have ended a couple of friendships over the years. They were people that I stopped liking over time as their true character became clear over time. I tend to be too patient and polite with people like that, but after a while it starts messing with my peace of mind because I dread having to spend more time with them. Fortunately they did get the message and never tried getting in tough again.

I agree this movie is a masterpiece! Colin Farrell is brilliant. His expressions are so sensitive that watching him is a joy even while he’s breaking your heart. Each character is heartbreaking and each performance, Brandon Barry and Siobhan is beautifully acted and powerful even in the soft places. The dialogue is incredibly simple and yet so perfect, so Irish. The story is heartbreakingly sad and simple but also deep and tragic and very funny as well. The cinematography of Ireland is spectacular. This is a rare gem.

this movie is fecking good

As a huge fan of Withnail and I, this movie absolutely blew me away. I watch it once every couple weeks.

I found more to think on after watching it again, including how Paedric's denial turns a pebble into a boulder between the two men. I love that everything happens in a small village where everyone's familiarity with each other resembles a family and in a family, hurt can be amplified. I give this movie 5 out of 5. It's a well-told story with many parallels. I particularly am drawn to the concept of silence and how it becomes the defining difference between the two men. Colm wants silence that feels good and has to be selective with his time in order to experience it. Paedric experiences silence negatively and prefers superficial noise.

Years ago, The Beauty Queen of Leenane in the theater did me in. I was stunned. I have always known Martin McDonagh’s name since then, we all will now.

"Its a delicious cracling experience". I never would have thought of it, but it captures Martin McDonagh's works. There's always an edge. you fall sideways and laugh, then the other way into dark, but he lifts you out.

In Bruges will always be the movie I re-watch, but this is a close second. The acting, screenplay and cinematography are seriously impressive. I think it’s between this movie and ‘Everything, Everywhere, All At Once” for the Best Movie Oscar.

Amazing film....but I can't call it a comedy....although there is comedy in it....the heartbreak and sadness outweighs it a thousand to one.........I was flattened by the end. Oh Jenny...my heart. Amazing cast and the island was a character of incredible beauty.

Brilliant authentic movie

For as few years I worked in a pub in a Warwickshire village. The pub had two areas (bars): a saloon (posh bit) and a public bar (basic). In the village was another pub but, two brothers used to come into this one I was at. One occupied the saloon and the other the public bar. Neither one had spoken to the other for almost 20 years but they went into the same pub. As far as I understand, a few years after I finished working there, they had a reconciliation. I never found out what the initial affair was which caused the rift. I recalled their story when I watched this. Incredibly well-acted.
