I have an elderly friend who worked as a background dancer on 6 Elvis movies. He worked on Roustabout, the Elvis/Barbara Stanwyck movie. He said that Barbara Stanwyck was SO KIND to all of the extras, grips, and construction people on set. Most stars of her caliber would never pay any attention to them, but Barbara was so down to earth, she preferred their company to that of the other stars. He never forgot her kindness. He said she was also very professional, always on time for work, knowing her lines, and willing to help others who were having trouble with their scenes. And she was never in a hurry to leave the set at night. A remarkable person, and one of my favorite actresses. Thank you for this video!

Thank you for your comment. I’m not surprised by your description of her personality and work ethics. I have watched many of her movies, tv series and mini series more than once and her energy, passion and enthusiasm shines through each time. I think her best performance was her last scene in the Thorn Birds with Richard Chamberlain at the top of the stairs as she tells him goodbye. She won an Emmy for that performance. It was magnificent.

Barbara Stanwyck what a fine actress. I was not aware what a difficult childhood she had, sad her mama died so tragically. I knew Robert Taylor was the love of her life and boy was he handsome. I watched every episode of The Big Valley, so Jerry I appreciated you mentioned the characters and a bit of their background, it made the video that much more interesting. Who ever remembers The Thorn Birds, magnificent mini series (by the way might want to do Richard Chamberlain bio). Barbara was one of a kind excellent actress. So happy she finally got a Golden Globe award in 84. Thank you for a wonderful video Jerry Skinner I love it. Elizabeth C.

The first time I ever saw Barbara opposite Gary Cooper in Frank Capra’s Meet John Doe along with Walter Brennan the true heart of this very precious woman was irrevocably fully on display for any and all to see, and experience. Recalling her portrayal to this very day brings deep emotions up from my heart - tears of both great joy, mixed with tears of great appreciation for the truly compassionate individual Barbara so uniquely imbued from her own uniquely warm, and loving, selfless character into that portrayal. To me that is, and will always forever be the absolute greatest, most powerful, inspiring, and uplifting performance of her entire career because in it is revealed so very much of who she really was.

Thank you for such a great presentation. She was one of my favorite actresses. Her strength her way of taking no crap. I loved her in Big Valley. Such a strong woman. You didn't mention she had serious back injuries from that horse dragging scene. Suffering for the rest of her life because of it that's why she had to limit a lot of her movie making as she got older she could barely walk sometimes. But she didn't let us see it did she? That was the prevailing training at one of the best pain centers that didn't use addictive pain meds of her time. I know because I went there & the process taught you how to live with your pain without letting others see that you have it, thus making you less of a possible victim. Unfortunately I was in one of the last groups that went through in 2000, it was dismantled right after. However it bought me 20 years of walking upright instead of a wheelchair that had been predicted for me. I'll always be grateful that someone like her with her star power showed the program was useful & could make a difference in seriously injured person's life.

Beautiful tribute to one grand dame, and enjoyed learning about the other cast members and their lives. Grew up watching Big Valley; this was like revisiting my childhood. Thank you.😊

Capra said she wasn’t pretty enough? She was a beautiful woman, inside and out.

Thank you Mr. Skinner. Another great video on a wonderful actress, one of my favorite. I first saw and became a fan of Barbara Stanwyck when I saw the film, Double Indemnity. I appreciate that your uploads are so familiar to someone of my age. Sincerely yours, JB Henderson MD

Wow, learned so much about the famous Hollywood stars in this one documentary, really fascinating details about their private lives that the public never knew. Brilliant documentary. Want more of the same from Jerry.

An amazing woman. Such an incredible actress and warm human being. Her movies like "Meet John Doe" and "Ball of Fire". Both with Gary Cooper. Made a huge impression on me. Thank you, Jerry, for this documentary.

I only knew and watched her in "The Thornbirds" which is one of my childhood favorites. Didn't know she was this influential.

What a wonderful tribute to Barbara Stanwyck. As I was growing up, and into adulthood, followed her career very closely. Barbara, never failed to bring the most outstanding performances, in every role she played. I also very much enjoyed seeing the accompanying tributes to the actors who played alongside, Barbara. I always felt that she brought out the best in everyone in the cast. There was no one else like her.

Barbara Stanwyck to me was the embodiment of class. She had an aura about her that was unique. I loved her in her many old movies and the Big Valley. She played strong independent women in the westerns long before independent women were fashionable.

This was a wonderful documentary of a great actress. She was a strong woman who had class. I think she kept things close to her heart in that she treasured her family and friends which probably may have made her look somewhat cold to others. I am new to this channel but will definitely be looking forward to more videos.
