As i am not local to you i want to build a barndo so for me to learn the ins/outs when it comes time for me to find a builder i can make sure all things are addressed. Question - Assuming the floor slab is essentially a floating slab which will raise and lower about 1/4 - 1/2" with weather and subgrade settling, the interior girts along the floor are tied to the piers which will not move. When you nail your baseboard to the girt won't there be a gap of 1/4" - 1/2" as the floor moves up and down?
@MrPostFrame
@MrPostFrame Жыл бұрын
Done properly your interior slab shouldn’t move it’s in a conditioned space

What are the center spray foam strips for, on the walls before he sprays it completely? I know the foam is costly but it seems to make sense to foam the roof where the greatest heat loss is would be worth it over the years.

Hey Paul, I see the benefits of spray foam. What are the downsides? I’m assuming remodels would be an issue I.e. replace siding would be one, any health issues? Asbestos was used for years before health issues became main stream. Thanks!

I noticed that Spray Jones recommends spraying to the metal outdoor sheet/wall while you prefer to spray to a building cover (both are a better solution than a ZIP waterboard cover at $70 per sheet plus tape. What's your thinking there? I guess the outside metal can be replaced with your system when damaged? Did you explain how this system prevents what happened with inside moisture at your house? Also, not a criticism but I notice that you don't seal (between) the pole boards' where there is a limited vapour seal without this step because gaps occur naturally between the nailed-together posts' 2x8s.
@MrPostFrame
@MrPostFrame Жыл бұрын
Ultimate adhesion is to the metal. However, I see no issue with spraying to the house wrap and haven’t seen any issues. There’s no question that I can get the metal off without messing up the spray foam. My house was an application issue. Not thick enough and mixture was wrong. Also, the hybrid flash and batt was/is an issue. There is a little gap behind the posts. He sprays behind them to seal that up.

@@MrPostFrame I think Spray Jones would of thought that bonding right to the panels would give much more strength. Love your project.

@@MrPostFrame Thanks for sharing that. Just so I understand, is it calculated as sqft of the wall surface (ie 80 ft length x 18 ft high= 1440 sqft) per wall? Or is it sqft of the building (ie 80 x 60=4800 sqft)? Thanks again for your help!

@@MrPostFrame Unless it was code, according to Spray Jones 2" would be fine then maybe you could of done the roof.
@bpdp379
@bpdp379 Жыл бұрын
@@jasonchristenson1996 it runs per board foot of surface to be covered. A Board Foot is 1'x1'x1" So an 80'x18' wall with 3" of foam is 4320 board feet. Building SF is not useful because it does not account for height of wall or pitch of roof.

What's spray foam cost in your area. Super expensive up here in the PNW.
@flfl3969
@flfl3969 Жыл бұрын
Spray foam is super expensive, and if it is not installed correctly, it is a nightmare. Unless you live in very cold weather, foam is not the most cost-effective choice. In extreme climates it can be worth it. In most climates, fiberglass is more than sufficient. My house is 1850 SF in the Phoenix, AZ metro area. I have blown-in paper insulation - about R-60 in the attic. My highest electric cooling bill was $167.00. Two months were at $130 or so. The rest of the year My electric bill is around $55.00 per month. The greatest point of heat infiltration is through the windows, which are double pane. It's not worth it to install more energy efficient windows. Installing a solar system is around $11,000 if I install it myself, and it will eliminate my electric bill. The 30% federal tax deduction will bring the cost down to $6,700. The payback period is about four years. So solar is a far better investment than foam insulation or better windows.
