Former Barrie parent, musician, and friend, Chris Patton created this video in 1991 to celebrate the ground breaking of construction of the new Upper School buildings. Barrie was founded in 1932 by my mother, Francis Seldin. I studied at Barrie through the 12th grade. I joined the faculty in 1968 and served as Headmaster for 22 years. In 1993 I left to lead the Montessori Foundation.
In 1982, Barrie was the first Montessori high school in the United States recognized by the American Montessori Society.
While Barrie has grown and changed over the years, it is still a school deeply loved by its students and alumni, of which I am one.
