Me as well, and to me is so funny because i started to find so many things i want to know like "can she ride a car? What about a motor cycle?" Or "shes supposed to be bulked up but what kind of exercises she can or can't do?" Or even "how much does a prosthetic cost? What types and how many prosthetics is she able to afford?" Seriously, today i made so much research about prosthetics and boots to see what kind would be more comfortable for her body and budget. It's crazy the things we do for character writing

Bro cld you give me some info im below knee aswell I have the same leg I got 27 yr ago now its effecting my right good leg im getting a lump on my tendon .Also I have a very small stump they fitted me with one of those legs that are meant to fix youre gate it hasn't as I was seeing two dffrnt prosthesis and then cv come along ,I dare say there's a lot off people in our position now , im struggling to walk any kind of decent distance , cheers

I had mine amputated three months ago. It has been rough going, living on my own, but I've gotten the hang of most of it, and I get my prosthetic next week. I hope whatever decision you made for yourself, things have worked out, or are on the way to such.

@LorenHelgeson I got my amputation around July 1st. It honestly was the best decision I made in a long time. Only 6 months && I'm back to doing what I love. Lots of trial and error and lots of questions when I go see my prosthetist. For the most part, as long as you get it adjusted at the prosthetist and you only loosen two adjecent screws for the pyramid adapter, then when you tighten those two screws, the alignment will be the same. There are also some pin systems that make it easier and faster to swap feet. They've just never been practical for my leg configurations. It's still never quite as good as having professional supervision and adjustment, but being 4 hours away and changing feet for a variety of activities means I've had to figure it out and get comfortable with it.

No specific tips. I'm 6'5", so I have that problem in a fair amount of vehicles. I'll often just reach down and grab the post of my prosthetic and manually maneuver it out of the door frame.

Long-term, you'll be able to do pretty much anything. I had an ankle fusion for about 18 months and was in a very similar situation. I could walk, but it was painful. Being on your feet 8 hours a day as a pharmacist, yes, eventually. It takes about 18 months give or take to fully settle in. And it's not a straight line. There will be good weeks and bad weeks. Don't hesitate to use a wheelchair or crutches either at home or at work as needed. It's not convenient, but it's better than the pain. Yeah, people stare occasionally, but honestly, I don't even notice. My wife notices way more than I do. People do ask a lot of questions, and other times people are awkward. I've embraced it, and I frequently use humor to disarm people and know that it's not a big deal to me. Even now, 5 years in, there's still good weeks and bad weeks. Twice a year or so depending on how hard I push myself, I'll prefer a wheelchair to my leg for a couple of days. The best advice I can offer is to find a really great prosthetist who won't be satisfied until you're doing everything you want to do. They'll be involved with you for the rest of your life , so you want a good one. @@AdaptableOrg thanks man! I got to be honest, I’m very nervous about all of this. I am watching your videos to get a better idea of what to expect and it looks like there is a lot to it. I’m sick of being in pain and want to live a normal life again. Right now I am basically wearing a big bulky CAM boot which is like having a ball and chain tied to my foot. I’m just barely scraping by. I feel like I’m making the right choice with the BKA but honestly I am very scared.

@@markkicksass2448 I usually keep crutches near the bed, but in general, I don't use them frequently. I also have a basic wheelchair for maneuvering around the house and being able to carry things on the days where my leg hurts.

@@AdaptableOrg thanks for your response man! My surgery is Monday. I’m nervous AF. I’m pretty much a mixed bag of emotions right now but I suppose that is probably normal. I just hope everything goes ok and that I am making the right decision. I know you said your amputation was due to pain like mine is. Did you ever have second thoughts? Are you better off now then you were before?

Absolutely. The first year is generally up and down, but you can always use varying combinations of crutches, wheelchairs, or other assistive devices depending on what works for you and how your leg is feeling on a given day. Sometimes it can be difficult, but there's usually ways to adapt and manage pain, especially if you can coordinate with your professors.

I'm a mechanic on my feet over 10hrs a day on concrete floors. Have a similar set up 👍

And how are you 2 doing. I lost my leg 3 months ago in an accident. And 4 fingers. But did you get used to it ?

If i do end up getting amputations I swear when I wake up from anesthesia I'm going to look the surgeon right in the face and say "you were supposed to cut the OTHER leg!"

How are you now and what have you decided?

@@LavenderGardenia still hurting. The neuropathy is getting worse and now it burns when I take pressure off my feet on top of being hyper sensitive when I walk. The leakage of fluid is as bad as ever and the odor drives me mad.... The itching and scabbing and raw sensation hasn't gone anywhere.... As far as progress I had something of a change in insurance so I still need to figure out who my general doctor is, see them, and try to convince them to give me a referral. From what I understand the neuropathy at this point isn't really reversible and that makes it very challenging to walk. I feel like it would allow me to be more mobile and active now if i got them amputated.

Any updates on how the surgery went?

@@kingkea3451 thank you for asking. overall…badly. Nerve damage that has caused a lot of new issues. Fracture healed but the post traumatic arthritis is advancing rapidly. Every step hurts. Moving it hurts. Not moving it hurts. I’ve accepted that this is as good as it’s gonna be. Available options all suck. In the meantime, I’m training for a 5k using my wheelchair.

Automatic cars, just the right foot is used.

Mainly to prevent the foot from tearing up your shoes. With the sock layer between the foot shell and your shoe, it provides some ability to slide and reduce friction. Otherwise, since foot shells tend to be harder, they can wear out some shoes-especially in the toe area-very quickly.
