The Arena scene comes after the resolution of the plot, but not after the resolution of Batman's character arc. The Arena scene needs to happen for Batman to finish his arc and find the purpose he was looking for when he decided to do become who he is.
@nikkis.20662 жыл бұрын
It drives home the point that he wasn't just doing this for himself or the city as a nebulous concept. We got glimpses of it, but this was where it felt he out himself out more for the individuals themselves.

The post arena scene, besides it being a stark contrast to the first time a civilian sees Batman (she grabbing for him to keep her safe and the man at the start asking for Batman not to hurt him) is amazing because it's the first time I've seen Batman just help people in a crisis he saved them from hours ago. He beat the big bad, but he's now just there fucking saving people in distress and who need it. Has anyone seen Batman do that in other media? I can't think of any?

It’s pretty crazy that it took this long for their to be a Batman movie made like this. We’ve had some glimpses of him doing detective work in like the dark knight for example but not to the extent they did it in this new one. It’s wierd cus one of Batman’s most famous nicknames/monikers is the worlds greatest detective lol. They been making these since 1989 and we just now in 2022 got a full on noir detective style film

Agree with everything you said, and I think the audio was one of the greatest things about this film. You often heard things before you saw them. The Batmobile roaring to life like a dragon in a cave was immediately iconic. It gave me goosebumps.

Since Scarecrow was in the Nolan trilogy I doubt he'll be in a sequel here but Scarecrow easily works in this Gotham. They did talk a little about Bruce's fears and those resurfacing, so he could possibly pry into that. To me Scarecrow and the hallucinations are a great way for the writers/director to get creative. And yes Freeze could work just please don't have him try to turn the whole city to an iceberg ha

I agree that we prolly won’t get him but a scarecrow in this version of Gotham they’ve created could be terrifying. It would be cool to see this new Batman fight him but there are other villains I’d like to see more and prolly have a better chance to make it into this trilogy. I could really see them using the court of owls storyline and it’s something that hasn’t been tackled in live action format yet so it would be interesting to see how Matt reeves would adapt that storyline

Honestly this was my favorite Batman film. I still loved the Dark Knight BUT it is the fact the Joker stole more of the performance than Bale is what makes that movie great. But THIS BATMAN MOVIE is just amalgamation of what makes Batman, Batman. It felt like a comic. A mixture of comics that were put together very well. It had such a dark gritty noir tone that the other movies dont have. The storytelling, cinematography, and atmosphere was on point. It sets up for so much more. Zoe killed it as catwoman, so did Colin as penguin. But Robert BATtison….i commend him. He is a young Bruce trying to battle his rage and darkness; still separating himself from society cuz all he wants to do is focus on being Batman; but he also learns that even this identity he takes he has to be so much more or his work will be twisted and taken into something villainous. Everything was great. I feel like if are a Batman fan you will understand more; but also the fans should help people who are casuals, fill in the gaps so that they can understand more. ALSO PROPS TO MATT FUCKING REEVES MAN. 10/10 for me man. Im starting my review podcast lol

41:44 Funny, cause in the comics he does (unless it's retconned by now). Think he figured it out himself too. But the best part is he asks Batman: "What if I tell everyone?" and Batman is like: "No, you won't. Cause a riddle everyone knows the answer to is not a riddle".

There's so much to analyse with the Riddler to. Like even down to his appearance. It's incredibly unsettling how child like and innocent he looks. As if, like Bruce, he's stunted as a kid and has never moved on from trauma he suffered at that age. And that's just one facet of this version you could analyse.
@Beaze172 жыл бұрын
I agree with max. They did a great job differentiating between this Batman and any other we've seen so far on screen. It was very cool but at the same time he wasn't perfect with his fighting with his gadgets or with his detective skills. You definitely get the sense that this is early on Batman. Catwoman was also one of the best on screen depictions we've had. This movie really felt like a Batman comic I know the director and Robert Pattinson were both saying they don't want to do another one but I really hope that's not the case

46:43 Simmon's idea/pitch of how Batman could use his alter-ego's resources in spite of his urge to just punch people HARDER to solve a problem, reminds me of a Spiderman comic where the villain (I forget his name) uses cutting edge genetic engineering to turn himself and unwitting minions into Humanoid-like Dinosaurs. When Spidey points out that the villian could use the same techniques to cure cancer and be a hero to the whole world, the villain scuffs and says "But I don't want to cure cancer. I want to turn people into dinosaurs." I feel like Batman is closer in thought process to that dino-man than he is to Spidey in the same situation.

Watched it last night and loved it. Took great influence from Long Halloween, (Carmine Falcone, the detective story, and Selina), year one (Selina again), Earth One, and Zero year whilst making a unique live action take focusing on Batman's growth and detective skills over his villains. World building was great, loved how they portrayed year 2 Batman as not a perfect fighter or detective, Colin Farrell's Penguin looked and acted amazing, Catwoman's entire plot line being really well resolved, Falcone's relevance along with Bruce's moment with Alfred, I actually liked the ending fight scene for his depiction in fighting, the point he almost went to far, the goon's word, and the flare, and Riddler (despite his design) his plot and physiology were great. Only problems I had was Gordon felt like he could've been developed a bit better since he felt more like just a "good cop" as opposed to James Gordon, the ending teaser and what they're setting up, and whilst it made sense for this movie, I would've liked to see more of "Bruce Wayne".

The Batman is an example of a superhero film being a legitimate masterpiece. 3 hours of all thriller no filler crime noir action that still respects and pays homage to its comic book origins. To summarize it greatly: The Batman is the film Zack Snyder *wishes* he could make!

I loved the movie. My younger brother on the other hand thought it was an OK boring movie and even fell asleep. I feel like there are not a lot of slow burn mystery type movies these days cause most folks are like my brother, they want big Michael Bay explosions, grandiose cgi heavy fight scenes and a more bubbly positive tone with a lot of comedy to lighten the movies tone. Kids will probably hate this and get confused by all the crime solving.

@@NoahDaArk it's not that the brother has poor taste. some movies are for more mature audiences, and with this film focused on riddles and lots of problem solving (3 hour movie btw), it's no surprise that a YOUNGER brother in this instance, would get bored. don't be so quick to judge being an asshole about it - i got bored in batman begins when i first watched it in my teens. rewatching it 10 years later, i enjoyed it much more

I’m late replying to this but I like slow burn movies especially if the filming doesn’t make it painfully aware it’s a slow burn. This Batman felt like a real version of the the animated series universe. I loved it for that reason. Snyder’s veteran Batman was also dope. I understand the gripes people have with that version but the events within that story more than justify that Batman in my eyes. Plus the old, veteran, Batman who is being manipulated by Lex to fight against Superman is such a good plot device bc we are literally seeing Batman v Lex in that movie too.

Man I saw this film in a 4DX theatre (where the seats move with the action like a theme park ride) and holy crap, that car chase scene had me feeling like I was in the dang car! Almost fell out of my seat haha. It was amazing!! I highly recommend seeing it in 4DX if you can (Unless you get motion sick or prone to epilepsy). But yeah, this is absolutely my favorite Batman movie to date! It encapsulates everything I love about Batman into one film, and the tone, ambiance and cinematography of the film were just incredible! I really feel like it managed to hit almost Blade Runner 2049 levels of style (at least for me). And I love this interpretation of Bruce. I know the playboy side of him is a big part of his character throughout alot of iterations but I personally never cared about Bruce Wayne more than I do in this film. As you all mentioned, they manage to make him human in a way that I feel many other takes on Bruce never quite accomplish. I get the playboy persona is his true mask, but getting to see his struggle with holding onto morality and hope for a better Gotham and him being in this really dark place gives a depth to his character that I appreciate so much. And in the end I feel it will only serve to make the playboy mask much more interesting as well. Absolutely loved this film, 10/10!

When Simmons mentioned how they're not going to show Thomas and Martha Wayne being shot because everybody already knows that, I actually thought about how The Batman feel like it took elements from MCU Spider-Man. Batman was relatively inexperienced in this movie, and instead of showing us what happened to him in the past, they just threw us in while giving hints and references here and there that anyone with little knowledge of the hero would be able to understand. I thought that Robert Pattinson was an extremely well-done Bruce Wayne. He was still learning, and his voice wasn't abnormally deep. It sounded like himself. Even though there wasn't enough Bruce like Max says, he was one of the best characters in the film.

You know what I love this movie? It really has enough substance to warrant talking about it. For example, the beginning of the movie has Bruce lamenting that he's been at this for over year and has made no difference. Crooks get scared by seeing the Bat signal...But notice that they still FINISH THEIR CRIMES. They're not scared to the point of deterrence, they're just spooked. The person Batman saves in the start is terrified because at this stage, Batman is only as symbol of violence, one directed at criminals, but who knows if that violence can be turned on the innocent. Which makes the ending SO good. It's a bit too action heavy sure, but it all comes together when Batman has to learn that he needs to be a genuine symbol of hope, that's the only way he can make the difference that his first year+ of work couldn't produce. The person he saved at the start is terrified of him, but the lady he saves on the stretcher at the end grabs his hand and doesn't want to let go. He is healing the hearts of the people of Gotham. Wonderful stuff.

Definitely goes into the character of Batman in this movie. They make it a point to have it where Batman and Bruce Wayne lives are not connected well and that's perfect for this early Batman. My inner child is very disappointed in me saying that, but it just feels like I've seen a lot of these movies since 1989, and it gets a little annoying when a new actor steps in, and I have to watch them meet the same villains and go through the same motions AGAIN. I'm not saying that I'll never watch another Batman film again, and the good word-of-mouth makes it sound like this one is worth seeing. But I'm just curious if anyone else is feeling the same way that I am, or can speak to these concerns?

I see Batman as 007 in cinema, and i see 007 movies since Goldeneye. I get the part that is tiresome to see some of the same concepts again and again but this is part of what Batman is, and i absolutely think that this is the most definitive Batman ever, it really takes a lot of graphic novel's feeling and makes something more concrete, a lot of classic Batman's characters and elements are here, let's see what future reserves. But i gotta say, it sucks that DC in cinema is so confusing, i hate the fact that now we got like 3 Batmans and 2 Jokers without time for the audience to breath, for me they could ditch the rest and stick with Pattinson as Bruce.

@@larsulrick235 I'd be fine with Batman taking the pre-Craig approach to Bond, where the actors portraying Bond/M/Leiter/Blofeld can come and go, and all you really need to know is that these characters existed before and have history with each other without really worrying about the specifics. It's pretty much what they were doing before "Batman and Robin" steered the whole thing over a cliff. And yeah, Warner Bros deserves a lot of the blame for the situation. They've chalked up a few wins, but most of their efforts from "Green Lantern" onward scream "we don't know what we're doing".

Man, i still think Robert Pattinson was way too skinny for batman. The scene where he is topless moving that big ass table, it was so weird seeing him so skinny, beeing batman.

Snyder is a great Director...Just not a great super hero movie director. He needs more time to make them great. Like Justice league Snyder cut.

This movie was fantastic. Action junkies will fall asleep, but people who enjoy broody atmosphere with heavy music and a quiet hero will love it
