I read an interview where Matt Reeves mentions that the brooding Bruce Wayne was intentional. He said that he wanted for the audience see Bruce before he develops his "public" personality. You have to remember that Batman is really who he is. "Bruce Wayne" is the real costume he wears. I think this is a very interesting approach as its never been done on film.

Yeah, I didn't see that interview, but that's kind of what I was hoping for. Given that this is a year 2 Batman and Gotham is in its deepest, darkest place at the time we join this Batman, it wouldn't make sense for him to already be running around with a big smile, glad-handing everybody. This is still "my family was murdered, my city sucks, and I'm trying to figure out how to process all this and make some sort of difference" Batman. Given that moment from the "Riddler crashes the funeral" scene where the pol (or whoever) talks to Bruce about why he hasn't continued his family's legacy of philanthropy (while he ignores her and looks broodily at the kid), the movie appears to be setting up a space for Bruce to grow into. If we do actually get to see him develop the Bruce persona, I think that'll add so much realism and depth to the character over the course of the series. If he stayed 1-dimensionally broody, that would be a shame and a waste of an opportunity. Anyway, glad to hear that Matt Reeves is already thinking this way.

Bruce definitely thinks Bruce Wayne is only a costume he wears during year 2, sure. He will build a public persona. However, I do hope Reeves doesn't reduce Bruce to being "only Batman": in comics, while he is dedicated, he also is a man with emotions and hopes outside of the mission. He forms a whole, though it took him some time to reach a fragile equilibrum.

I love the fact that we didn't see "Bruce Wayne" yet, because Bruce Wayne still hasn't surfaced from the traumatized kid's vengeful persona... The awesome scene at the end of the movie where he helps people, tells you that he finally realizes that to make a bigger difference he needs to become THE Bruce Wayne. Because he realized, while that kid was holding onto his arm at the end, getting ready to be picked up by the chopper, that he can do even more than just fight people in the dark, and to help common folk through his wayne legacy. BAsically, up until now he was beating up people just to satisfy his lust for vengance. At the end of the movie he finally "grew up". LOVE THAT ! As a matter of fact, the first time he helped a common citizen , while giving them literally a HAND in the stadium ( The mayor and that kid ), and leading them out of the flooded field ( symbolically an exodus = leading people out of darkness which he dwells in, and leading them into light > literally a sunrise, the world in which Bruce Wayne "dwells".). And everyone following him in the dark, hints at the transformation that he needs to become more of a "people's man" and more involved with the people of the city, who are as well, going through rough patches ( he finally realizes that - encounter with Selina helped him a lot too > why her character works even more) . Meaning that the 2nd movie will focus on him becoming Bruce Wayne, in the capacity that his father was, to rebuild the gotham, and show people hope.

Out of all the amazing moments in the movie, this was the one I remembered most. Just the look of horror on his face when one of the followers said "I ma Vengence". At that moment, Batman knew that his methods likely inspired the Riddler to do what he did, and that he has to find another way to help Gotham. And that look he had upwards to the helicopter flying away during daytime was a complete contrast to the one he had looking up to the bat signal at nighttime at the start of the movie, showing that he is finally coming out from the darkness.

I loved this version of Batman, It was a refreshing take. A lot of emotion was shown through his eyes. Wayne doesnt quite know how to be anything other than Batman. The Riddler was terrifying and felt like an actual serial killer. In a way Cat Woman was an inspiration to Bruce, she kinda showed him, in the future, how to separate The Batman and Bruce Wayne. Respectfully, I couldn't disagree more with your take on Robert Pattinson's portrayal of Batman. I think the WHOLE point the movie is going for is to show a young, flawed, not fully formed Batman! It's year 2. He's still figuring it out. The blurred line between Bruce and the Bat is purposeful! The Bruce in this movie doesn't know what the Batman stands for yet, he's literally just out for "vengeance", which is why at the end there's that big moment when the Riddler's follower says that exact line. Bruce spends the whole movie seeing where blind rage and anger will lead him, and in that moment that's where he makes the decision to start changing. Everyone in the movie was good, but Robert so impressed me. He was excellent. A new side of the character with a raw depth that hasn't been seen on the big screen yet. I can't wait to see where he takes the role in the sequel.

He cant separate who he really is and his real life has suffered for it. He cant go out in the day because his eyes are completely adjusted to the night, he hasn't cut his hair in what seems like months or years, and he's done nothing publicly with Wayne tech. I agreed with him until he talked about Pattinson being “broody.” The point of him brooding so much is because he is early in his career so there is no fake Bruce Wayne persona that he puts on… yet. The reason for him brooding so much is because Batman hasn’t seen a reason to keep up the Bruce Wayne charade, therefore he is more than willing to forsake it for his crusade in a very Frank Miller’s Year One kind of way. It’s pretty obvious and is mentioned in a lot of interviews and is even present in some of the graphic novels, so I’m not sure how Jeremy missed that.

Yes! Thank you! The ending to me hinted at Batman realizing how important Bruce Wayne is. He realizes he has to be more than just The Batman. Early in the movie he talks about how he doesn’t care about the company, keeping up appearances, basically… he doesn’t care to be Bruce Wayne, that’s not what’s helping people. He thinks the “I’m vengeance” is what’s gonna help Gotham, but as he sees at the end with the one guys line quoting him, he realizes that won’t save Gotham, it will only delay the inevitable. In order to save Gotham, he has to become more than vengeance, he has to be Bruce Wayne and he has to right his fathers wrongs AS Bruce Wayne.

Jeremy didn't miss anything. Just because it was the point and what the director wanted and envisioned doesn't mean it was the best thing for the story. George Lucas intentionally put Jar Jar Binks in the Phantom Menace. Does that mean that was the best thing for the story or does that make it good? That it was intentional? Jeremy is just saying that he doesn't like that kinda of Bruce and that's fine. Neither do I for that matter, I like the character triad he speaks of in the video. I think Bruce being broody is on purpose, because its about year 2 Batman. He’s still new to this. He’s rageful, vengeful, an has zero things stopping him. As he ages, Alfred changes his image. Makes him more playboy Bruce. Philanthropist Bruce. An eventually dad Bruce. But rn it’s young Bruce. An he’s not giving a fuck if he’s perceived as a bad person. Or good. I could imagine a few years into it, a person would be at a stage where they get almost overconfident which would just fuel the rage and wanting to just do more, until it evens out and events put focus into how important it is to hide his identity and not become like the criminals themselves. Tbh, I love that "stage" in Batman stories as it usually has a lot of psychological depth. Though I do understand what Jeremy means with different identities of Batman in the later stages of his "career".. that brings around a different depth to the character. I hope I'll dig the film. @@jonathansyversen7988 Moore used generic versions of Superman/Batman etc for editing reasons. "DC managing editor Dick Giordano was receptive to the proposal, but opposed the idea of using the Charlton characters for the story. Moore said, "DC realized their expensive characters would end up either dead or dysfunctional." Instead, Giordano persuaded Moore to continue with new characters. Moore had initially believed that original characters would not provide emotional resonance for the readers, but later changed his mind. He said, "Eventually, I realized that if I wrote the substitute characters well enough, so that they seemed familiar in certain ways, certain aspects of them brought back a kind of generic super-hero resonance or familiarity to the reader, then it might work." The characters themselves are just stand-ins for different versions of Nihilism. From the wiki: With Watchmen, Alan Moore's intention was to create four or five "radically opposing ways" to perceive the world and to give readers of the story the privilege of determining which one was most morally comprehensible. Moore did not believe in the notion of "[cramming] regurgitated morals" down the readers' throats and instead sought to show heroes in an ambivalent light. Moore said, "What we wanted to do was show all of these people, warts and all. Show that even the worst of them had something going for them, and even the best of them had their flaws."

It is though. It's seen in Keaton's Bruce in how awkward and quiet he is. Totally disagree with your take on Pattinson. Thought he was fantastic in the role. He’s meant to be portraying a Batman who hasn’t figured out how much he needs the Bruce Wayne persona in order to be successful. His only focus is being Batman, all the time. Closest I’ve felt like I was reading a live action comic book ever in a Batman film, for 90% of it. Colin Farrel was fantastic, as was Zoey as Catwoman. Riddler take was refreshing and well done, although his motives were a left a little undeveloped I felt like. That was my only gripe. Some of the fan theories before hand ended up being better than what actually happened. Casting really was superb. I’d give it an 8.5 out of 10 probably. yea its the problem with the internet, before the movie came out you could have sworn people had already seen it and hated his performance but the movie wasn't out yet. So people keep on thinking "it's pattinson in the cowl.." probably talking shit to your mates instead of actually watching the movie and appreciating that he is actually one of the better batmen we have had. He is already up there with Keaton (yes I'm one of those that after the Nolan series was done I realised how much I hated Bale's Batman) only issue I had was not so much the broody or "1 dimensionalness" as honestly that made sense, he has gone through a LOT of shit that only some of it we may know from being comic or batman fans and he is in the stage where he couldn't care less about what the Wayne name stood for and thinks that Bruce Wayne is useless and if he could he would never take off the mask. No I just felt the way he looked with the hair and how "lanky" he was I felt he would have been a better fit out of the suit as a Dick Grayson or Damian Wayne. Then towards the end of the film there are hints that maybe he is starting to think it can't all be done by Batman, there are things that gotham needs that a guy in a batsuit that goes around dishing out concussions can't provide.(trying my best not to spoil anything for ppl that haven't seen it)

It really made me realize that you can't be a vigilante dressed as a Bat while also running around pretending to be a happy rich kid. It's just not real in any sense, but this Batman was. As for Batman not feeling "mythical", the exact same point applies. It's a "real" Batman and one that is still learning. It's a Batman that you can actually believe would exist, which you can't say for any other Batman put to film.

Jeremy's take on Batman is similar to many fan complaints who didn't like the movie. They didn't understand why Bruce was played that way and that he was still learning how to be Batman. It doesn't make sense for Jeremy to feel that way because how could a "fake" Bruce make Batman more interesting or relatable? He's claiming Batman was a certain way with Alfred but he wasn't really. From the first scene itself, it is made clear the amount of thought, work and creativity that has gone into the making of this movie. This movie will scare you, indulge you in its mystery, excite you with its action and amaze you with its commitment to telling a truly dark and gritty tale about the corruption in Gotham. Matt Reeves has done masterful work in directing each scene. He is a point of view driven director. There are many shots in this movie where he puts you in the character's shoes and shows the world from his point of view and how the world perceives him. As Batman enters the crime scene you are put in his POV and can see how much each and every police officer sees him as a menace and doesn't want him to be there. This really helps establish the world and the relationship within in a very subtle way. He also has wonderfully implemented some scenes of horror and thriller which were unexpected and had given way to some nailbiting and riveting scenes! (I think I forgot to breathe during the Batmobile chase scene) All the Matt Reeves direction has been enhanced by Greg Fraser's camerawork. Gotham is very dark and gritty but never feels dead. Unlike so many other movies, he allowed blacks to be actual black and not shades of grey and then dialled up the contrast allowing the colours to pop! Orange and blue colour has such amazing interplay between them and completely suits the dark depressing setting of Gotham. Michael Giacchino's score for The Batman is his best work yet. As the film picks up in terms of action, you can start hearing little hints of Dum-Da-Dum-Dum pick up and you just know things are going to get intense. Other than the adrenaline-filled main theme he through his soundtrack is very well able to showcase moments of mystery, emotion and romance (Yes, this movie has romance!) This might have been the least amount of talking done by The Batman in any of the Batman movies because Robert Pattinson is so well able to display emotions through his body language and expressions. Pattinson brings in a different take on Bruce Wayne, who is depressed and a little eccentric. A billionaire who has travelled the world to gather knowledge and is always analysing his surrounding is bound to be an introvert and kind of a recluse and this is very well showcased by him. Robert has done an amazing job. Talking about side characters there were loads of them and each one of them has done an amazing job. For me, the stand-out was definitely Penguin and Catwoman. The story is a straight-up murder mystery thriller where Batman and Gordon are sent on a hunt by Riddler which reveals the deep dark secret of Gotham Elites including Batman's own past. Without spoiling much the story plays out very much like Se7en, Zodiac and The Long Halloween comic book. This allows the world's greatest detective to actually do some detective work and you get lost in that journey to trying to piece all the different puzzle pieces. The Batman is not a good story because it's an indulging murder mystery but because it allows the characters within to grow as well. As Batman, Catwoman, Alfred and Penguin are caught in the middle of these murders they all grow as a character in their own way which makes me excited for the sequel. Finally, I would like to say in a world where most of the comic-book movies now seem like a painting of scenery you have seen a thousand times being sold in Walmart, here is a movie that is something that is hung on the entrance of a downtown museum brought to life by Picasso.

Punisher and You Were Never Really Here show the brutal enforcer tough guy thing while also delving into the psyche. The trailers look like it is less the character study Matt Reeves claims and more my chemical batman emo goth shit. People in the comments keep saying it is better that he hasn't built an exterior yet but people with childhood trauma often hide it so I figure he should be good at it, at least he should be see to make an effort to hide secret identity. It seems like more what people joke about with the exaggerated meme Batman. If they aren't careful they could end up coming across as that emo kid who thinks being dark is cool so tries to act dark without any actual issues. Hopefully there is much more than the trailers showed.

@@Braddicus84 he has already been Batman for two years. Also plenty of people that hide trauma go on to work against it. Frank Castle doesn't advertise why he became the Punisher, though he isn't afraid to talk about it with people who find out like say Daredevil. But intelligence has always been a defining part of Batmans character and the fact he does something so dumb in a Batman detective story is a problem. We shouldn't hope another movie will fix this ones flaws. The character arc should've been in this movie. His unchanging demeanor means he can be overshadowed by other characters. There were parts of the movie where I felt like Batman kinda came across as something a little otherwordly. I loved the way he moved, a bit like a movie monster. But there were other stuff that definitely feed into him being memorable in the better kind of mythical way.

When you look at the ending scenes with Batman during the dawn, and that scene with the torch, oh he is definitely well on his way to become the mythical figure of Gotham but not in the way that we traditionally think about Batman. In the movie he is like both the bogeyman for the criminal underworld and a beacon of hope for the city. It's definitely a different take than Nolan's which does feel more like a billionaire taking an extreme hobby, here it feels like he's stuck with the city he's trying to save like a troubled marriage which coincidentally mirrors his father's own struggle in protecting his mother. Good stuff.

When Alfred tries to convince him that he needs to be Bruce Wayne also, Bruce tells him that he is no longer Bruce Wayne but he is only Batman. By the end of the movie he realizes that being Batman is starting to create a different kind of villain. He knows now that he must change his approach to being Batman and become smarter and wiser. Remember technically he lost against the Riddler. It's only been two years and he is still learning how to be Batman. He will no longer be fighting just common street thugs. The Joker, Scarecrow, Bane, etc, are all coming and he has to become more than just Batman to defeat them. He has to also become a likable Bruce Wayne and use his influence to his advantage. He's vengeful and completely dedicated to his mission, and to him Bruce Wayne is just a name, not even a persona. Batman is all he cares about. Pattinson himself mentions this a lot in the interviews, with a really interesting comment on how Bruce is essentially replaying his parents' death over and over again nonstop in his head, and despite us not actually seeing that, we see it on Pattinson's face. Also Jeremy kinda missed his own point where he said most of the movie was at night and so Batman was mostly the one appearing? So like…very on the nose intentional?

I thought it was ridiculously obvious why they did what they did. This was a Batman hell-bent on his anger over the crime in his city that took his parents from him. All he ever saw himself to be was Vengeance. He clearly was not ready to embrace his Wayne persona, seemed quite ashamed of it. Yes, it was jarring to see such a mopey Bruce Wayne, but I understand it and accept the growth of it. I'm quite fine with it being a Batman heavy focus for now. Not until the end of the movie did it all became clear to him: that he could actually be a hero fueled by MORE than just vengeance. That he could use his Batman AND Wayne personas for good. That's clearly why he decided to save people and then stay in Gotham. Guaranteed we'll see the rich, suave Bruce Wayne in future movies. This is literally the first Batman movie I find myself giving a damn about and that's a miracle in and of itself.

If I had to some it up, it felt like a blend of The Long Halloween with Batman: Earth One. I use that one instead of Year One because in the Earth One graphic novels, he's a lot more grounded. He's clumsy, he makes mistakes, he's angry and unstable, and is gradually putting together the pieces of the Dark Knight we've all come to idolize. This Batman isn't quite the mess his Earth One counterpart is, but nor is he fully realized. Like in the Long Halloween, he's spent the majority of his career as a less-lethal Punisher - you might say, "a vigilante lost in the scramble for his own gratification?" And is being faced with the realization that Gotham's problems are more sophisticated than his approach can rectify. This entire movie is one long baptism by fire. I do kind of agree we missed out on the Bruce Wayne side of the character. I get that he's apathetic and trying to drown out everything and has yet to find balance, but I feel like an opportunity was missed to hammer home the point that Gotham also needs Bruce Wayne - someone altruistic, charming, and with the social and economic power to tackle the systemic issues of Gotham - as well as the Batman. I thought we'd get a bit more of that from the scenes in the trailers when he's talking with the Mayor-elect at the funeral, but I guess that idea got cut short. Oh well, maybe a point of a future sequel?

I saw it yesterday. I disagree with the Pattinson review. Comparing him to the arc of Bale’s leaves out that Bale’s ran as a semi criminal for years in Asia and other locations likely working out stealth etc. Bale’s also has a very different level of support. Bale’s was in semi-suicidal/homicidal mode in a summary/montage during Batman Begins. Remember where bale is in a Chinese jail? That’s likely the timeframe we see this Bruce at except Battinson is already trying to do something about crime. They wrote this where his character is pretty much psychologically on his own except for tough guy Alfred. Most the tech is diy. I can go into it more why I think this fit great but I don’t want to spoil.

I think his Batman was the most Batman Batman we've ever seen in live action. I think the reasons for Bruce and he being so similar is he's still figuring out who is and how to be Bruce Wayne. Remember Bruce is the mask. Alfred says Bruce never goes out in public. Whilst he's 2 years into Batman, he's probably only been Bruce for a few days or weeks of that. Also when hes Bruce talking to Alfred he's still in Batman mode for all but one scene. Makeup still on, full costume apart from the mask.

It's fascinating that they showed Batman/Bruce Wayne trying to figure out what kind of vigilante he wants to be. He thought he was 'vengeance' but in the end he figured out he wanted to be 'hope'. In a lot of ways this is an origin story!

Excellent review, as always. If he’s just broody for the sake of it, I would tend to agree. But knowing we’ll have sequels to establish a more classic status quo leaves me fine with a Bruce who is still struggling to come back from that alley. He died there, that night, with his parents. And every day since has been a struggle to find his humanity, in a world and a city that is designed to take it away. Right now, there’s only the Bat. It’s not what he, nor Gotham deserves, but it’s what they need right now. Something incorruptible.

Very beautifully put. I think not being able to tell Bruce apart from Batman Is way better. Because if someone were to ever be Batman In real like they’re not gonna be dark and violent with the suit and just immediately act like the playboy millionaire. No they’re still gonna be dark and moody especially being so young. I think seeing a second or third movie and watching Bruce learn how to act as Bruce would be way more entertaining and relatable to watch

Not having seen the movie yet, I see what they're going for with this portrayal of Bruce, though time will tell if it pays off. Unlike in Nolan's trilogy, where he had pretty much figured out balancing his three personas from the moment he returned to Gotham, this is a version of Bruce who hasn't. His life is dedicated to his mission as Batman, he's still grappling with the rage he feels towards the injustice all around him. Outside of punishing criminals, nothing else matters to him. One of the clips even has the mayoral candidate talking about how unlike Thomas and Martha, Bruce isn't using any of his wealth to support Gotham's vulnerable people. This is very much him at a point where not only is Bruce Wayne just a mask, but it's a mask he has next to no interest in wearing. Likewise, Batman isn't Gotham's saviour, but a means for Bruce to give an outlet to his fury on those he feels deserves it. Again, I have not seen this yet, and time will tell if we even get more movies in this world. But it feels to me like a part of the journey they're intending to go down, is Bruce learning to move past that darkness he feels inside of him, and learning that there's so much more he could be doing to not just punish criminals, but truly save Gotham from itself. Most importantly, that he can do it not only as Batman, but as Bruce Wayne as well.

I'll most certainly wait for the film to come out, but it isn't unheard of that Batman being in his 2nd year is him still being fairly new to the whole thing. Long Halloween is Batman in his 2nd year and people underestimate the length of his actual career. Take into account that it took the end of his second year for his more fantastical and notable rogues to even appear. Pattinson had also made it clear that Bruce Wayne is having difficulty balancing both personas. "What made it easy is that he really hasn’t figured out where Bruce ends and where Batman begins at this point in our telling of the story. And so sometimes (its) Bruce seeping out of Batman. And there are a couple of scenes where I’m doing a kind of little, subtle vocal changes. It’s incredibly subtle a lot of times. But sometimes he’s more in Bruce’ when he’s Batman. Because he hasn’t got full control over the delineation yet." He's also at a breaking point where he doesn't even know if he's making a difference in Gotham. I truly believe he'll get there and the distinction of those 3 personas will become more apparent, but it's going to be an evolution throughout the series. Just like the Planet of the Apes trilogy. He'll get there where he'll utilize Bruce Wayne's wealth to help the people of Gotham. It's all wait and see for me. As for the Batsuit being low-tech...that's intentional and has been stated by Reeves. I mean, you can quite literally buy the holsters he carries.

I just finished watching the movie at theatres. I loved it for what it was. Should I go crazy over it? No. Does it bring people together like Spiderman and Endgame did? No. The truth is, if you're not a batman fan, or you're not a comic book reader, or you're not a fan of long winded action scenes, or a non stop 'its not over yet' twists and cliffhangers, or simply a badass movie centred around a badass character, you'll be itching to leave your seat and get out of the hall before the final fight begins. I was that guy. But the aesthetic, Robert Pattinson and especially the music, held me throughout. The movie was 3 hours, and very slow at that, yet the final message was amazing. I will say it was worth it. It's my first time going to theatre alone and it amazes me how, by just paying a few bucks, I get to enjoy a 2 year hardwork. Now I understand why people were crazy about Avatar. It's one thing to watch online or Netflix. Theatres are totally different experience. I will say this, if you want to watch this movie, go to the theatres. Because the money you pay will force you to pay attention to the film, unlike in KZfaq or Netflix where you could just skip through them and miss out on the whole plot. Some people in the hall were quite annoyed at the film honestly, and how unnecessary details took place. For example, when Batman stalked Selina at first, they didn't have to show the entire process of Bruce getting up on his bike, slowly, and following her, slowly. All they had to do was right after Selina talked to Annika, show Bruce following her behind through the rear window. Subtle scenes were all over the place in the film, but _they didn't serve their purpose_ with filler scenes before and after. And the villain's monologue was boring, they really tried to make it sound poetically so serious. Especially when he started explaining his motives. But I understand that's what the movie needed. Maybe it's just not for me, but I also don't know if the scene would have been great if it was done differently. And I'll say most of the conversations were. Like Batman and Selina's, they were too cliche. And a lot of the backstories, like Selina being Falcone's daughter really didn't mean much to me. But however, I admit that they made the film feel complete. Not too perfect, not too imperfect, not too long or short, and most importantly, not geared towards one specific niche. It geared towards everyone. Woke Liberals willl be happy with how black women got positive representation. Feminists will love the Catwoman' "I can take care of myself" motto. MRA and anti-sjw will love the film for simply not emasculating Batman, and not emphasizing on any woke sentiments. Action film lovers will love the film for the fight scenes, especially Batman chasing OZ. I, being a bit of all of them like casual people, loved the film for what it was. Overall. The movie is watchable twice. Once for the first time, second for the aesthetic, music, and small details you missed out on in the first. Don't bring anyone, unless they're a heavy action film or batman fan, with you to the film, because their disappointment willl negatively affect your experience.

I really enjoyed the film. I was a bit bummed seeing mopey Bruce Wayne again (I personally didn't think Bale did Wayne justice like he did Batman). But without going into spoilers I feel it was by design and we will see some growth and change in another movie. But I do agree the best part was Gotham as a living breathing city that existed before during and will after Batman. Characters were established. I hope if there is a sequel we get more characters like the Penguin who are in it but not the main focus. But personally this is the most Batman feeling Batman movie the showed him becoming the world's greatest detective. It was a crime movie and I loved it.

Matt Reeves repeatedly said that this Bruce Wayne is brooding because this is just the beginning of the Crusade, he's still figuring out What he needs to be. Nolan's take was unrealistic in this regard, Bale's Batman was perfect right from the beginning which gave no room for development. I saw it yesterday, a top 4 superhero movies for me. The whole point of the film is Batman, 2 years in, let Bruce Wayne go. He got lost in the shadows. He let the Foundation go. Both the mayor elect and Alfred call him out for it. The Riddler blames Bruce too, for abandoning his responsibility. And the ending, while not perfect, shows him stepping out of the shadows to inspire. Great movie, with a great message

I loved Batman Begins from Nolan's movies the most as that movie showed the most sides of the character. Like when he even considers straight up murdering his parents killer by shooting him, as Bruce Wayne... Luckily he doesn't get to do it, then trains to suppress his vengeful urges etc. In the next few, he seems almost a little too perfect for a human who goes through all he does. Sure, there's still some "I don't care for my own safety"-recklessness and anger but... I just liked the portrayal tons in Batman Begins and a little less as the movies went on.

Batman Begins said it best. Bruce Wayne is the mask that Batman wears. This theme pops up in the Joker interrogation scene in Dark Knight and all over the comics. Batman is as crazy as a lot of the villains he fights. Batman and Bruce Wayne should not be portrayed as being similar, otherwise it downplays how clever he is at fooling people. This is why I like Keaton so much. His Bruce Wayne is out of touch and neurotic but, he becomes focused and almost terminator-like in the suit. He comes across as someone who's uncomfortable outside of the batsuit. This is why the Dark Knight keeps comparing him to Harvey Dent. They're both Two Face.
