Rob loving the movie while stressing that it’s not for everyone makes me even more excited for it. I love when artists take big swings. All of Matt Reeves’ movies have a similar tone- dark, moody, and even kinda sad. I don’t expect that to be everyone’s cup of tea, but I think it’s perfect for the Batman character.

Funny what happens when you let directors direct and you stay on your lane as a studio, huh?
@alexman3782 жыл бұрын
@@cruzanassassin If I’m a director and I cast a bad or simply wrong actor for the wrong character, I can’t blame the actor. Same goes here, Marvel became so obsessed with the identity of the director (as we saw in every piece of promotional material as far as two years prior to the film’s release), that they forgot to question whether she was right for the job. My counter argument is James Mangold working for Fox. The Wolverine is a decent but mostly mediocre and forgettable film, mostly raised by Hugh Jackman’s performance. Then the same exact team makes the masterpiece that is Logan. And the only difference was that Mangold had complete control over the latter.
@Evil_Peter2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it's good to let a director do what he wants, sometimes the director needs to be reigned in. You just only hear people talk about when the director did something good on his own, rarely when the producers stopped him from doing something bad. It becomes a surreal thing where people pretend good directors are infallible and studios are all evil.

I loved this film. I must be honest, this film lived up to the hype for me! I enjoyed most of the third act. I definitely get why WB wants to spinoff from the GCPD and Penguin series. I will admit, it is long, but I think it will take a second viewing to see what I believe needed to be cut. This is a beautiful film in story and production. Matt Reeves took some big swings and for the most part hit it out of the park several times. I believe it is one of the best comic book movies.

The original cut was 4 hours long so an entire hour was cut. I think the movie being so long is probably a good thing. It has more time to develop the characters e.t.c...
@tarnishedpose2 жыл бұрын
@@notBrocker Cuz the standard sits at 2h and for most casual moviegoers(which sadly make up for the majority of the general audiences), even 2h 30m is long. Doesn't mean that a certain lenght for a film is inherently bad, but since not everyone connects the same way with the content presented(cuz you know... we think and feel different), the lenght can become an issue. So it is not inherently good neither. I def am one to believe that some things are either GOOD or BAD regardless of one's personal taste, but there are things that are just way too subjective to apply the same logic. Some things are a matter of taste and personal experience. And there's just no way around it.

Seeing this in IMAX was amazing. They’re completely spot on with this one. Warner Bros took a big swing with this one. It’s a truly detective film. The cinematography and score was beautiful. The immediate violence in some scenes catch you off guard, But it’s what you want. The build up was intense. They’re correct in that the ending didn’t match the buildup. It’s not a perfect movie as there are some scenes that are a little odd but overall it is the best Batman movie made. I look forward to the sequel.

I loved it! I admire a movie that gets better as it goes along. It took a short while to get used to the somber, heavy tone, but once I did, I was rivetted throughout the entire 3 hours. I can't call it "great," only because I consider originality to be an essential component for true greatness, and this film, as excellent as it is, explores some of the same territory covered in earlier iterations. Reeves did a wonderful job. An "A-" from me.
@GA-1st2 жыл бұрын
@@damoncurrie7103 Aesthetically it's appropriately dark to fit the mood it was trying to evoke, but neither the photography nor production design ever seemed hyper-stylized or over-the-top like "The Crow," for example, even Burton's "Batman." As I mentioned, early on the tone was more somber and heavy than one might be prepared for, but I adjusted fairly quickly. Other than that, I can't say it ever fell into full parody territory. Quite frankly, I don't think it took itself any more seriously than the Nolan films. It's a crime drama with some unmistakable superhero elements to be sure, e.g., the fight and car chase scenes, but, for the most part, the story was grounded in reality. I don't view it as "self-serious" as much as it's just plain sad - and I hasten to add without being maudlin. Most of the principle characters are all coping with the long term effects of loss and trauma, and are consequently more pain-driven and have difficulty connecting. Overall, the choices Reeves and the cast made worked quite well for me.

Just watched it. What an awesome introduction to an even more grounded, young and restless Bruce Wayne. With only two years for young Batman the film is dark, it’s gritty and it’s all about the detective work. This is why we all love Batman, because he has so many layers up on layers to explore. Matt Reeves just revolutionized the Riddler. Paul Dano was amazing, pretty much every cast is amazing. What I really like is that the film shows us how young Batman is scared to even fly off high rise buildings stil, but also throws out his body with no hesitation to enemy bullets, sometimes not being able to control his anger during a fight. He gets shot in the chest, punched in the head and doesn’t give in. But above all it haunts him to see anyone get hurt because he’s still affected by the death of his parents. The cinematography is amazing, and boy the city of Gotham is just on another level. You’ll get scared to even pass by the city let alone live there. Shows the true nature of corruption and political deceives. Reeves created a unique Batman sets just as Nolan’s was different than Tim Burton, as well as for Zack Snyders Batman. Each directors build their own unique elements and universe for the Batman. Perhaps the greatest advantage is that character Batman is so versatile and any director can interpret it based on the excellent comic books written. DC needs to focus on these kind of movies because honestly they’re just perfect. I’m hoping we will get another amazing trilogy if it continues like this. My respects to all the previous and current directors for giving us different types of Batman. I really like all the Batman iterations since 2005. (Baleman, Batfleck. & Battison).

so far the vibe im getting is its like 89 in that its strange and out of left field but in the best way. which is awesome. batmans needed that bizarre and reinvigorating take for so long.

I absolutely love The Batman, I'm seeing it again twice on Thursday and it has officially dethroned The Dark Knight in my opinion

The poor ending keeps the film from dethroning The Dark Knight for me

I think the third act complaints seem to be one of those things that seems consistent across most critics. Still very excited though.
@78konjo2 жыл бұрын
I think its because the movie tells an amazing story in the first 3/4th of the runtime, and then the last part feels like an added on storyline that didnt fit the rest the movie. Thats just my opinion, it was very good just wish they cut the movie off at a certain point
@nikunjdixit11752 жыл бұрын
@@barry2349 Then you obviously aren't reading too many critics. There are plenty, even the positive reviews, which mention that the third act is a weak link.
@nikunjdixit11752 жыл бұрын
@@barry2349 And I have read many and 3rd act issues are mentioned in plenty of them.

@@78konjo didn’t fit? The third act is the entire goal of the movie, it finally tells Batman what he should do. Its your personal opinion but Jesus man, be smarter
@nikunjdixit11752 жыл бұрын
@@estudos6156 "be smarter" is the laziest possible way to put down someone's opinion.
