Another good video. This will be helpful for me as I am a lefty. My weakest phase is rallying. Particularly my first shot. My serve frequently gets a weak return and I blow my first shot after the serve.

Try stepping a few steps back. There is no rule against it, and specifically after the bounce, the ball slows down a lot; so standing a bit more behind the base line will give you way more time to react!

The area I struggle with is running, legs. Being older and playing with 20 to 35 yr olds, I have 5.0 shots, but 53 yr old legs. I am learning to be very efficient and hit exacting plays and shots as you describe. It has been hard lately to beat young legged pushers especially, because they don't hit rhythm rallies. Honestly I feel like Agassi v Fed 2005 US Open Final.

I struggle with pushers the most. But I can see here that it’s because I take all the risk hitting down the line on “outside” balls too much. I hit incredible winners but also make too many errors. I will try to implement this strategy. I also know I have to attack the shield with my power groundies and come in and knock off volleys more often (I’m an aggressive baseliner that typically only comes to net to chase drop shots and shake hands). Should I only approach on an “inside” ball that I can direct to the shield?

the waiting game - having an idea where the player is going to hit it, but either I hesitate or almost get lost in the waiting for it to come. Then miss it. I watch a lot of other players and have really started to read them. I get killed by some of the short drop shots. Even if I know its coming I get stuck or still off balance

My struggle is when slicers only slice and when I'm given balls with no pace . I also never have time or can afford coaching so I struggle with trying to correct my form during match play instead of only practice session and this causes massive unforced errors.

I would have to say the approach. I get sucked into no man's land with a weak forehand/ backhand and then i don't make it to a good net play position on the next shot by villain. Or I decide to move in on my weak shot and end up fielding a rocket in no man's land. I know not to do it but I can't break myself from doing it.

What happens if your opponent is using the playbook against you? Is there a way to counter that?
@juliansanderson839
@juliansanderson839 4 жыл бұрын
Spencer Li - The Travelling Trader like a playbook from any sport, the only way to counter it is to figure out the play they are running.these plays come with a lot of assumptions, (for example, ‘they will likely not aim here’) and by playing shots they don’t expect you disorientate the planning opponent. Of course, plays are designed to give an advantage, often times with court geometry, so simply hitting low percentage shots won’t work.

So what if the villain hits first to your shield, crossing the imaginary line, what's my nxt shot?
@fuzzyyellowballs
@fuzzyyellowballs 4 жыл бұрын
If you're using "Home Base" you'd go back cross court. If you're playing a Southpaw that's obviously not a good idea. One thing you can try is to hit hard cross court then stand in your shield corner and hope the pace of your shot forces the Southpaw to leave the ball in the middle of the court, which means you can hit a sword next. Easier said than done, but once a Southpaw starts using "The Battering Ram" it's hard to get out of for the reason I explain in the video.

When you already have "forehand" and "backhand", why on earth are you inventing this sword and shield thing???? What's the benefit? Same for "you" and "opponent" rather than "hero" and "villain".
@fuzzyyellowballs
@fuzzyyellowballs 4 жыл бұрын
Hey! Reason we did that is because you need to know the sword - shield matchup (both you and your opponent) so you know how to construct a point. Simply knowing forehand and backhand won't give you that information.
