The bloodiest battle per square foot fought in the European Theatre of WWII. 6-9 June a small, now insignificant bridge and causeway became one of the most important pieces of real estate during the entire Normandy liberation. It is a story of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Was there last week. Even during the June “holiday” the towns are full of WWII cosplayers and vacationers, many of both wearing Airborne kit, yet so few were at sights such as this. A few trickled to the monument but nobody else walked to and from Cauquigny. Walk that causeway. Go further to visit Charles DeGloppers’s(MoH) memorial. Remember what those young men did and what it meant to the entire operation. Thank you to all those who served!

CPT John Saul was NOT at this battle because he was with the 101 (Hundred and Worst). The 82nd Div. was the only units at this battle.

No. He made the assault. Both Gen Gavin and Gen Marshall confirmed this. He was initially assigned to the 101st when the 401st was assigned to the 101st prior to D Day. The GIR was then broken up and 3-401 went to the 82d and the others to the 327.
