The original Godzilla roar from 1954 was created by composer Akira Ifukube and his team using a double bass, a leather glove, and pine tar resin: -Detune the strings: Ifukube detuned the E-string of the double bass. -Coat the glove: Ifukube coated a leather glove in pine tar resin to create friction. -Rub the strings: Ifukube then rubbed the glove up and down the strings of the double bass, similar to nails on a blackboard but lower-pitched. -Record and process: Sound technician Ichiro Minawa recorded the sound and processed it at different speeds. -Add effects: The sound was also enhanced with echo effects and some animal noises
