Upon spaniards entering her bakery looking for soldiers or trying to flee after battle (this part is unknown) she told them to enter an oven that fitted a few. She closed the hatch (that can be locked from the outside) then she then lighted up some wood and managed to stick it inside by small openings (used to heat up the oven) like that she cooked the soldiers inside that could not exit due the hatch was closed. Honestly I believe more this story.

Alright I did some quick searching and found this website that gives a semi detailed account of what happened staring at the title "Both Sides Attempt to Recover" ( www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Battle_of_Tenochtitlan#cite_note-Hassig-0 ) . If you want more information I know that the book "Mexico and the Spanish Conquest" has more detailed account though I have not gotten around to reading it myself.

Exactly. It was stuff like what you mentioned that makes the war of conquest in the Americas so unique. Also the aztec weapons and armor where amazing. The aztec armor was tightly woven out of cotton and other materials and worked much like the European gambeson, except it was much more effective in battle. So effective in fact that ALL of the Conquistadors shed their metal breastplate and gambeson for the Aztec woven armor. Also the main melee weapon of the aztecs, the macuahuitl, hand an obsidian edge that would rarely break and was sharper than a razor. Here is one quote from a Conquistador about the effectiveness of the weapon. "One Indian at a single stroke cut open the whole neck of Cristóbal de Olid’s horse, killing the horse. The Indian on the other side slashed at the second horseman and the blow cut through the horse’s pastern, whereupon this horse also fell dead."

And after they closed on the french nobleman, something happened which is also a big fail in this video: a lot of french nobleman from the first cavalry charge were made prisioners on the back of the portuguese lines. But then, in order for the portuguese to resist to the second spanish push, D. Nuno Alvares Pereiro order his men to kill the French prisioners that were imprisioned in the back which was not something normal at medieval battles (nobleman prisioners means huge ransoms to be paid). This was one of the most bloody battles of this period . The portuguese chased the fleing spanish army and it is said that the rivers became red from all the blood. Thousands of spanish soldiers and nobleman were killed and it had such an impact on the Spanish Kingdom that the King issued a TWO YEARS mourning period... This battle was key to portuguese history as it repelled the Spanish from trying to invade again, making way for the Portuguese Age of Exploration and Discoveries (an effort that took place with the same courage and violent/bloody mentality as in a Aljubarrota, nobleman knights became Ship Captains ) which gave Portugal a place on the Human History.

lopazio i remember studying in school the square tactic invented by nuno alvares. they imprisioned the vanguard in a square and killed them. it was all meant to be that way. that is if what they teach us in school is true. and they didnt killed many spanish, the english killed more than the portuguese. we collected a lot of prisioners, and we released many of them. We were smaller than spain and the war lasted a few more years.

Ed Knowz never forget that a lot that is teached in portuguese History classes is not 100% true at least a lot is exaggerated and comes from the "Estado Novo" propaganda that over gloryfield its national heroes (and D.Nuno Alvares Pereira was one of them). Robert Tauzer its not the first time that a battle like that happened. Se the battle of Courtrai some 40 yrs earlyer than this one, for example. Also later battles like Agincourt happened like that due to the selfishness and the stuborness of the knights

Spaniard here. The heavy cavarly charge is the most common "strategy" done in Middle Age. Heavy Cavalry was made up by noblemans from the Kingdom. It was the same through all Europe, France, Germany/Austria/HRE, England, etc etc It was a matter of honor, and they had to be the first ones to start the battle. Latter on, we realized it, and we created Tercios, that used long pikes to counter that typical medieval thing. Un saludo a todos :D

The portuguese commander probably had been a student of ancient battles as he employed a typical Hannibal strategy of displaying his forces in square formation but with a fake weak center line of infantry. This was crucial to make the spaniard commanders believe they could easily break their center with a heavy cav charge, in reality once the cav reached the center they were enclosed by pikes and since they running uphill their charge wasn't strong enough to break the defensive lines. It seems stupid but they were tricked into making that mistake.

By the way I think there's so much material in history to be used to make tons of movies or TV series. There is no need of creating fictional worlds like in GoT.
