Thank you so much for uploading this very well-shot and watchable video! We are planning upon visiting this line for the first time this week. We do have a (strange?) love of D.M.U.'s and so will go mid-week. Your film has whetted our appetite!

A nice trip down memory line for you of bagone days. A good watch and I loved seeing all the rolling that you filmed and photographed. Though the EWS 08 could do with some(lots) cosmetic painting on that body livery. I find it sad to see locos in that state of affairs, but it is an ideal opportunity for the weathering community to paint working life-like finishes to models.

Thanks John. The 08 could do with a paint job, but I was just excited to see it in action.

I used to catch those DMU's from Solihull to Moor St back in the late 70's / early 80's when I working in Brum. We used to call them Bog Coaches!

It's relativly local (although gcr is closer) to me and I am sure I have been on it at some point in my lifetime but I sure cannot remember it, Might have to go and have a visit at some point!

It's definitely worth a visit. Not as big as GCR though.

Me and my son enjoyed a day here this August bank holiday. It was £15 for me and the lad went for a quid. It was a day ticket as well so we went up and down the line for the day. It was the class 33 and we enjoyed our day there.

It's good that kids can go for £1. Did you make it up to the actual Battlefield and visitor centre?

A lot of the old infrastructure still accessible along the Ashby & Nuneaton Line, doing the Battlefield Run and then walking on some of the route down by Weddington to Ashby Junction near the WCML is well worth it. Bridges and abutments are still well maintained.

I loved this it was really good and I really loved the shots just one thing I’d note (no hate) maybe don’t put the music on? I think when you talk about these things you should not put on the music again no hate and great video

Did you ask permission to make this video?
@LittleWicketRailway

Hi Trains Kits and Other Bits, the short answer is no formal permission was granted. The owners of the property would have every right to ask me to take this down. However, I hope that they would see that this as a positive video about their beautiful railway that encourages more visitors. Whilst the following factors don't equate to permission, I think they are worth noting. On the day of the visit I spoke with 3 volunteers/staff who were clearly aware I was filming and had every opportunity to ask me to stop or make me aware of a photography policy, but none of them had objections. One even directed me to locations where I could get better angles. Admittedly they wouldn't have been aware of my intended use of the footage, but if they had concerns they could have asked. There's no signage that I could see on the premises regarding photography and there's nothing on their website. Almost everyone visiting the railway was taking photos/videos in some form and given the world be live in I think it's generally accepted that these are posted to social media in some form, often publicly. As you'll see from searching KZfaq, there are numerous videos featuring this railway and I would be surprised if they all had permission to film. If you search for photos on Google there are plenty. I always try to be considerate whilst filming and I'm always safe. I always ask permission if I'm using a drone (no drone on this occasion). So whilst these don't equate to permission I think there is some implied permission or at least isn't anything to deny it. Originally I made these types of videos for myself as a record of the visit, but I appreciate that really they're no longer "home videos" and far more public meaning getting permissions and approvals becomes more important. It's definitely something I'll think about in future and consider seeking retrospective permission for videos already posted.

@@LittleWicketRailway yeah, now you have those 10k subs, and I'm guessing make money from this. You are a commercial operator. (Please feel free to correct me on making money on this) that means when you show up to film you do so as a business. You need to ask. Even if signage isn't there explicitly stating so. It effects your liability, the railways liability and leaves you in a legally interesting area if anything were to happen to you in the course of your visit. As in you might not be entitled to any compensation or less if you were injured etc etc because you did not let the railway know you were there on business and did not sign in or go through any induction or supervision or approval. This applies even if you only access "public" areas e.g. platforms, trains etc. Thats the legal bit you need to be aware of. The moral bit, these railways are charities. Ask, it's simple. You can say "but they get X benefit" and we can debate the merits of that all day(but lets not) however you ask before you film, they may have a very friendly attitude and say sure go ahead. They may have an attitude of sure go ahead but £10 for the kitty please(no great loss). They may have a more ridgid approach, however it is up to them, its their house, its hours upon hours of peoples largely or exclusively unpaid work that makes the place possible and the least you can do in future is ask first because it is a little disrespectful to show up and make a quid on the back of showing off that unpaid work without asking first. Again, there is a distinction between some kid with 20 youtube subs posting a video of a day out and a channel with thousands of subs posting a video they went out with the intent to shoot in order to upload with expectation of payment from that video. I'm not someone whos saying this just to annoy you, I'm saying this as someone that has put in years of volunteer work on railways in the UK when I was a younger man. I like seeing railways on youtube, glad for people like you that promote it on here but please ask first as it is polite and respectful to the volunteers. You can also get even better videos by asking, access to places others don't get into, lots more to be gained by asking than not. Don't ask and there is a risk you become someone not welcome at these places as you gain a reputation for not asking, ask and you become someone that works with these places.

@@HamStrains I can't argue with what you've said. I will make the video private and seek retrospective permission. I would just add that I don't think this is as clear cut as you think regarding commercialisation. My reasons for visiting weren't commercial, it was a day out with my family, we paid for our tickets and didn't expect special treatment. My videos do have ads, but the income from them on this video probably won't cover the admission and certainly won't cover expenses. I did contact the railway in advance about their drone policy and got no response.

@@LittleWicketRailway eh, keep it public. Just future actions could be more mindful. Individually the video may not make much, but overall earn more than a grand a year and you're liable to pay tax on this as if it was income derived from a self employed activity... commercial. I agree its an interesting new world of social media but that doesn't discount the established norms around certain activities. Same thing applies to the mainline, if there is a realistic expectation of making money from the activity you need to ask
@LittleWicketRailway
@LittleWicketRailway 2 жыл бұрын
I get what you're saying about making money = commercial and I declare all my income on my tax return. But the channel is, if viewed as a commercial enterprise after costs (equipment, software, etc.), hugely loss making and that doesnt even include costs from the day (travel, ticket, food, etc.) which I wouldn't expense because, in my mind, it's a family day out where I take some video. This is why I don't personally view these videos as commercial, it's my hobby and I enjoy highlighting the wonderful heritage railways we have in this country. But putting all that aside, your core point stands, it is courteous to ask permission first. Which railway do you volunteer with?
