The film is based on a story about the mutiny on the battleship Prince Potemkin in 1905. Residents of Odessa supported the insurrection of sailors, which led to the bloody shooting of the crowd by the tsar's troops. The film was twice (in 1952 and 1958) was called "the best world film".
Restored and voiced by Shostakovich's music, the historical-revolutionary epic is sketched in all the film schools of the world. In 1978, the "Battleship" topped the list of one hundred best films of all time, according to a poll of hundreds of film critics from 59 countries.
