RE: The Hindu statues looking like Buddhist Statues. The main reason Buddhist and Hindu imagery tend to be similar is they both originated in a similar place at a similar time so tend to draw on the similar sources. Also Buddhism can be quite syncretic, and draws imagery and traditions from local religions and traditions and then spread them, which is why you sometimes get statues based on Alexander the Great in Buddhist temples in Japan.

You didn’t mention the overpowering smell of rubbish Steps aren’t too bad, it’s the heat that kills you. My thighs were sore for a couple of days after Surprising how the caves weren’t that full given how many people were in the market area A large percentage of Indian/ Hindu visitors/ shop keepers too as I guess it is a holy site for them I’ve seen it once and don’t think I’ll ever want to go again but not bad considering it’s free to enter
