Recipe: Listen to "Be My Baby" on loop for three hours and then write a song. I can't blame him. That song is perfect. Phil Spector is a twisted psycho killer with weird hair, but he's also a musical genius. Wilson and Spector had sort of a competition going on. Wilson respected Spector, but the feeling wasn't mutual. Besides being a psycho killer, Spector is also kind of a dick.

It's more than 50 years old, and was made with 4-track recording technology mixed to mono. Yet, it was so ahead of its time, it caused great anxiety to The Beatles, who responded with "Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane." The sound quality is amazing, especially if you listen to the mono at maximum volume.

Reading all the comments by younger people and how much they love The Beach Boys makes me think back to the early 1970’s when their music was rejected by our own peers. So grateful to see their music not only withstanding the test of time but their legend just seems to grow as years pass.

Thanks for leaving this comment, man. It really is amazing when you think about it. I’m a black guy in my early 20s and while my brothers mostly love hip hop, nothing no kind of music will ever speak to me and move me like Pet Sounds and Good Vibrations did, does, and will continue to do so. I just hope I live to see my favorite album turn 100. Maybe I’ll see young people then fall for this music like I did, God Only Knows.

Seeing old footage like this makes me really sad. Even though I wasn't even alive its still fascinating to me to watch stuff like this because it reminds me of the passing of time and how we don't really stay young for long. Like all the people you see are just enjoying life but at the same time completely unaware of how fast its gone. Then one day in the future when i go back and watch all the old footage of me and my friends, I'll feel the same sappiness i feel right now.

Lil' Mac, you are only as old as you act. There are so many minutes to live in and more sights and sounds than you can ever fill them with. Instead of counting, missing and reminiscing, enjoy and fill those minutes with learning and playing new things, and try to carry all that you see from the past, into your future. Me 59 and still writing and playing and hearing music in my head. I can never mimic Brian, the Zombies, Beatles, Strawbs, Four Tops, DC5, and on and on and on....But I can enjoy it while I spread the "word" and sounds of a time that keeps growing into the present. Listen to Typhoon by Young the Giant, Enormous by Declan McKenna, and Coffee Shop, Landon Pigg, etc.c.c.c.c.c.c.c.c. Go girl and cheer up.

Just read that Brian Wilson was diagnosed with Dementia, pretty advanced from what info I read. Sad. Truly one of the greatest composer/ songwriters ever throughout the history of ALL music. My wife has pretty advanced Dementia, still at home, but am trying to get in home care through LA county social services. She was an RN for over 45+ years. Luckily, there is family, they're all aware of her condition. Pray for Brian Wilson, also, one of the most pure and melodic voices ever. May he be able to enjoy his remaining time in this life as much as possible.

God, the break at 1:41 is one of the most beautiful pieces of pop music ever recorded. Just the merging of the harmony and the piano, and the "I dunno where but she send's me there... " Oh goodness me. Genius is written all over the show. Fantastic, over the last decade and a bit they're rightly getting the credit for "Pet Sounds," and "Smile," The Beatles thought they were two kick arse albums. That's the highest compliment really.

The 1966-68 years had some outstanding songs, and peons to psychedelic music. So many classics of that era, it boggles the mind to recall how many there were! It took Brian Wilson three months to arrange the complete melody except from the lyrics and song. He did it all in the studio while the rest of the band was out on tour. Up till this day its hard to find any song like Good Vibrations.🎼

I love the Beatles most of my life I'm 65 but honestly I've gotten so burnt out with the commercialism! "For $50 you can hear John actually fart in the third verse of I am the walrus"! I'm just sick of it so about 5 years ago I started paying more attention to the Beach boys and got deeper and deeper. The stones may have been the English rivals of The Beatles but their true rivals were the Beach boys.
