This is my take on the Beach Boys Disney+ Documentary. I am not being paid by Disney, so this review is my total honesty. Also, no, I am not even going there with that blue bathing suit monstrosity. www.stitchybutton.etsy.com

VH1s Endless Harmony is the definitive documentary of the Beach Boys! It came out in 1998 and went all the way to 1998! Disney plus got to Pet Sounds, then skimmed over the rest on about 10 minutes! I went back to Endless Harmony and when they talked about Pet Sounds, it was less than half over! If this is part 1 of a Disney plus series, then it could be the best. They did a great job on the 61-66 era. But as a whole, I hate it!

Your description of Brian and his view of other people and the way people like him communicate is so on point. It bugs me so much how very few people actually understand even remotely how a person with that kind of high level of attention of what's happening around you behaves and how that shows in social situations. Brian has a huge built in bs-radar on top of that for being in the business his entire life. Of course aging and problems that come with it affect too, but I trust the family and close friends of Brian in the matter, that he's actually doing quite fine conserning the situation of his life. The filmmakers for this documentary were just lousy interviewers. Brian's been giving 1 word answers to questions since the 60's if he doesn't care for the situation.

Thanks for your honest review. My thoughts exactly. I think it's a shame Brian is still being asked to participate in this stuff. And I just wish everyone would leave him be. Hasn't he given us enough already.

Amen! Thank you. I do wish Brian was given the peace he never had on this earth already.

I think that Carl was the glue of the group: he was the stage producer, after Brian stopped touring, and sometimes he was also the studio producer. As matter of fact, after his death, the group disbanded
@WavesandWords409Ай бұрын
I agree. They've never been closer like that again.

Narrators can totally trash anything so long as it is well planned out in advance! I agree that leaving out Dennis and Carl’s deaths is an unfair oversight. Not anything being added on Landy is a tragic mistake! Or maybe very deliberately done! To devalue others and hold them up in public is a devastating move to make! Lawsuits are made from this! Perhaps all of the Wilson Family and other families are not pleased with this documentary either! Given time, you don’t know what could happen. Or they will just turn the cheek and wait for the next blow. You make so many good points!Thanks for posting!

I haven't watched the documentary, but seen alot of negative reviews. Your's is the most heartfelt. Beach Boys are the only band in history that are not allowed to progress, it seems.

Yes, sadly. Thank you for watching!

I think the 2000s have been great in the Beach Boys world! Brian toured Pet Sounds and Smile, Al made a good solo album, Dennis Pacific Ocean Blue came out on cd, along with Bambu and other previously unreleased material. Brian has made several good solo albums, especially That Lucky Old Sun! A Smile box set came out in 2011! The surviving members reunited in 2012 and mad a decent album to close out their recording career as a band! All the 50th session releases we have gotten so far up to Holland. Honestly, I think this began with the Endless Harmony documentary in 1998, and Brian's solo career. He performed songs live that I never thought I would hear in concert! Disney plus went back to the 80s and 90s mindset. Disney ruined Star Wars, now they screwed over the Beach Boys! I was hopeful that Disney could bring more popularity to post Pet Sounds Beach Boys. That is what pisses me off the most! Maybe a part 2 will come out, and all will be forgiven.

Well said young lady 👏 I'm from Liverpool but it's infuriating that you can't mention the beach boys without mentioning the beatles the beach boys stand alone as the greatest band of all time enough said

Katie, I saw it in IMAX at Torrance and it was so terribly disappointing. What a disaster. Thank you for your brilliant Insight here. What gets me most angry is the Paradise Cove section at the end. I want to hear The Beach Boys what they really said and saying even if it doesn't sound fantastic it would still be poignant and beautiful to me.

Yes, Mr. Marshall definitely baited a lot of us into thinking this would be a way better project than what we got.

I went back to Endless Harmony and was amazed at how many previously unreleased tracks they used! Soulful Old Man Sunshine, Loop De Loop, Barbara, All Alone, off the top of my head!

I take it you read their official book? any thoughts on it if you have?
@WavesandWords4092 ай бұрын
I don't have as many complaints about the book. There are too many other celebs in it. The stories the band told, however, were great. Al's comment about the Maharishi and florists was hilarious. Of course, they sanitized that down, too.

Excellent video as always, Katie. I haven’t watched the documentary and precisely because I was concerned it would only confirm my worst fears. Frank Marshall is married to Kathleen Kennedy who has contributed to the destruction of “Star Wars”. No wonder. I think the VH-1 documentary from 1998 was the best one they have done on the Beach Boys.
@WavesandWords4092 ай бұрын
I totally agree! I didn't know that Kathleen Kennedy connection either. I'm not as harsh about the Star Wars sequel as some are. A lot of great offshoot shows have come out of her tenure with the SW universe. However, Frank is another tale. Our guys deserved someone directing who was a fan and knew their story, warts and all.

Great video as always Katherine, I agree on your thoughts. I found the documentary dissapointing even if I didnt expect much, honestly. Like, my god, it spent too much time on the Mike is "a genius too", also, it covered like 6 minutes of Charles Manson and ZERO MINUTES on Eugene Landy and his mental health struggles over his life, but whatever, its just a way to catch on new fans, I guess? It looks made by a person who obviously isnt a fan of the Beach Boys, and it delivered something that their real audience of course wouldnt like.
@WavesandWords4092 ай бұрын
While I am all for new fans, present them with the full story! Endless Harmony did this really well. Plus, there was a lot in it for older fans, too. This had all the wrong people involved who made terrible decisions on how to go about this. I knew not to expect much, but at the same time, why should we always be content with so little? Especially when many of us have followed this band for decades? Just idiocy at work.
@generalkrow2 ай бұрын
@@WavesandWords409 I agree, Endless Harmony, and even An American Band are far superior documentaries, a much better option for new fans and older fans.
