Remember, Carmen had no idea that Claire was listening when he was in the walk-in. Also, I think Carmy is the one who came up with the final menu, because him and Sydney talked in S2E8 about it., when they discussed his drawings. I don’t think the show insinuated that Sydney “just got it” with putting the dishes together at all.

@@LifeofaQuinnYeah, that’s true. I feel like with his panic attack and the talks he had with both Cicero and Sydney in S2E9 were where he came to that conclusion about him and Claire.

I dont think Sydney's food ever tasted bad, I think it was just not to her standards. She had high expectations of the quality of food she wanted to make, and she was struggling to meet it. It was always "almost perfect". I feel like to me it would have tasted great but for Sydney, she wanted perfect

thats actually a really good point! definitelyyy could be the case or at least part of it. i wouldve loved to see more of her working through all that
