The official trailer for #TheBeatlesGetBack is here! The Disney+ original docuseries, directed by Peter Jackson, will be arriving on Disney+ just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Made entirely from never-before-seen, restored footage, it provides the most intimate and honest glimpse into the creative process and relationship between John, Paul, George, and Ringo ever filmed. Be sure to check them both out, and don’t forget to watch “The Beatles: Get Back” when it rolls out over three days, November 25, 26, and 27, 2021, exclusively on Disney+.
Directed by three-time Oscar®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson (“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “They Shall Not Grow Old”), “The Beatles: Get Back” takes audiences back in time to the band’s January 1969 recording sessions, which became a pivotal moment in music history. The docuseries showcases The Beatles’ creative process as they attempt to write 14 new songs in preparation for their first live concert in over two years. Faced with a nearly impossible deadline, the strong bonds of friendship shared by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr are put to the test. The docuseries is compiled from nearly 60 hours of unseen footage shot over 21 days, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg in 1969, and from more than 150 hours of unheard audio, most of which has been locked in a vault for over half a century. Jackson is the only person in 50 years to have been given access to this Beatles treasure trove, all of which has now been brilliantly restored. What emerges is an unbelievably intimate portrait of The Beatles, showing how, with their backs against the wall, they could still rely on their friendship, good humor, and creative genius. While plans derail and relationships are put to the test, some of the world’s most iconic songs are composed and performed. The docuseries features - for the first time in its entirety - The Beatles’ last live performance as a group, the unforgettable rooftop concert on London’s Savile Row, as well as other songs and classic compositions featured on the band’s final two albums, Abbey Road and Let It Be.
An exciting new collaboration between The Beatles and Jackson presented by The Walt Disney Studios in association with Apple Corps Ltd. and WingNut Films Productions Ltd., “The Beatles: Get Back” is directed by Peter Jackson, produced by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon, Olivia Harrison, Peter Jackson, Clare Olssen (“They Shall Not Grow Old”) and Jonathan Clyde (“Eight Days a Week”), with Apple Corps’ Jeff Jones (“Eight Days a Week”) and Ken Kamins (“The Hobbit” trilogy) serving as executive producers. Jabez Olssen (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”) serves as the film’s editor, the music supervisor is Giles Martin (“Rocketman”), Michael Hedges (“The Adventures of Tintin”) and Brent Burge (“The Hobbit” trilogy) serve as the series re-recording mixers, and the music is mixed by Giles Martin and Sam Okell (“Yesterday”).

My wife's grandfather was the young bobby on the roof that said "No I'm not threatening you or anything". All four of the Beatles signed the inside of his helmet before he left. Shortly after George Harrison's death, we were offered over 2 million pounds for it. It still sets in a glass case by our tele. Money is only money but the Beatles are "The Beatles".

@samueltufts

It’s only because they put a smoothing filter over the whole thing to get rid of the grain, if you look close you can see what almost look like brush strokes where the detail has been smoothed away. It looks pretty bad if you ask me. I’d much rather have a high res scan of the negative with its natural grain than a smoothed out version like this. Not to mention it kinda feels too modern, the era is definitely important to the story here and I feel smoothing that out into a clean digital look loses something important. A good example of film restoration without losing detail is the 2019 Apollo 11 documentary, the film there still has its natural grain and looks much better.

@@samueltufts I agree! As you can see in the rooftop part of the trailer, the detail is not there because of too much denoising that Peter Jackson used. I would rather have the quality of the 1+ video collection rather than something that lost detail. Edit: If you also pause on 2:37, you can clearly see that George's guitar has no strings. The reason that happened because of too much denoise (removal of grain) which causes it to lose detail.

I was 17 yrs old in 1969, and grew up with this music. But not realizing the greatness of it, I let it almost pass without appreciating the Beatles, thinking of it at the time, as some teeny--bopper genre music. But, I've been rediscovering their timeless, classic and feel--good music from those simpler days. Now, this film will hopefully re--awaken the world and a new generation to the Beatles music. Geniuses in their own right, they've never looked better.

What is so amazing is that the Beatles only had about three weeks to write and record and perform a new album of material. In that time they put together songs such as 'Get Back', 'Let It Be', 'The Long And Winding Road', 'Don't Let Me Down', 'Two Of Us' and 'I've Got A Feeling'. We also see them working on songs such as 'Something' and 'All Things Must Pass' etc. Although the album 'Let It Be' is not regarded with the same respect as other albums by the Beatles such as 'Sgt Pepper' or 'Abbey Road', the fact remains that it remains so much better than so many other albums regarded as great by so many lesser artists. The Beatles created a standard that even they were held to. 'Let It Be' is a great album - and this film confirms this as a fact.

I couldn't even watch this halfway without tearing up. My dad loved The Beatles so much that he would play their songs almost everyday in our house when he was still around, even sing their songs in the karaoke. I also remember gifting him a magazine with Paul McCartney on the cover, he smiled at me and teared up afterwards (I was way younger when I bought it for him. I just suddenly thought of dad when I saw the magazine and so I bought it instantly even though it was not even his birthday yet at that time). Every time I hear any The Beatles song, it always reminds me of him. I know for sure he would have loved to see this and maybe even cry again in joy 'cause that's just how much of a big fan he is. I watched it about 20 times. Something people forget is that in their day - when they were a band and as big as they were we hardly ever saw them. Almost the entire Beatlemania thing from '63 to '70 was received by us via records. I think from 1964-1970 I actually only saw them perform on tv 4-5 times in all plus the three films. Of course I also saw the original Let It Be film at the theater in '70 and for me it was a bummer considering that we could see the end was upon us. And the way the film was edited and the low quality of it made the whole thing less than thrilling. Then they were gone. That makes the long wait for this film such a revelation and joy and with so many individual moments to be able to go back over and re watch it is just so beautiful. Thank you Peter Jackson. Thank you JPGR. You're still the best.

I was born 10 years after their break up. I grew up listening to them my entire life. I always felt like I just missed witnessing one of the greatest eras in music. I watched them in Black and White and in grainy color on video, album covers, and in pictures. But to see them in this film, I felt like I got to witness something almost first hand. They truly came to life for me. it was so intimate. Although it was bittersweet to watch, knowing how it all ends, it was the greatest thing to feel like a fly on the wall watching it all unfold. I was spellbound and amazed at watching Paul create Get Back out of thin air. It was literal magic. And to see the chemistry between Paul and John in creating Two of Us... it took a deeper level of meaning to one of my all time favorite songs. I knew the magic of that song was there, when I first heard that song. it was wonderful to see the footage of it all unfolding. Last but not least, Paul's beard was everything!

Thank you Peter Jackson and the two remaining Beatles for allowing this footage to be compiled and released. They could have said no and we never would get to see it. The original film was terrible. It depressed me. This looks joyous and fun! Todays music, with the sole exception of Jack White, doesn’t interest me. @@cathythompson6872 funny story--I made friends with a girl because I heard her talking about George Harrison and I was just getting into the Beatles at the time, and we had a conversation about the Beatles and that became our common interest and it's kinda what made us friends. That was in 8th grade and I'm in the 11th grade now (junior in high school). So certainly there are people who still know his music and stuff. Depends on the person I guess. On the other hand, I'm also a fan of Bob Dylan's music and I did a portrait in art of him and I told some girl that I was drawing Bob Dylan because she asked who it was, and she said something along the lines of, 'never heard the name'. Like man, I was surprised because I'd always heard of Dylan long before I listened to him, like I knew the name, y'know? I couldn't imagine having never heard of the guy, though his music isn't something everyone will like.

Saw the second one, the conversation that Paul and John have after George departs, that gave me chills. John and Paul are titans and I am amazed with how John handles it. Not surprised but just amazed. My father who was never much of a fan of anything, stated how much he admired John Lennon as a person. Watching Paul go through various feelings, I get the feeling that he really put heart and effort into the band at that time and his biggest fear was happening before his eyes and it was devastating. I always heard over and over the connection that John and Paul had and in that conversation I can sense John also fears the same thing. They both were strategically putting thought into how to keep it all together. Just my opinion of course.

Chills down my spine. I love so many bands more than The Beatles, but I love The Beatles more than any other band. They changed the musical landscape and set a higher standard.

Well, the Beatles tried to close the chapter when this film was released for the first time, that's partly why it was called "Let It Be" back then. As for me, I'm happy it's been re-released. I've been wanting to see it again for 52 years. I hope Disney did a good job with it -- I used to trust them when Walt was alive. :) Love seeing all these youngsters here talking about the film.

@@MW-tk5nf He he… I live in Australia but grew up in Liverpool and was brought up on Beatles music. At 50 years old I don’t think I classify as a youngster however, it amazes me that the entire Beatles life cycle started and finished before I was born. As I was raised on Beatles music I have never not been a fan for as long as I have been alive, but I was born just after they broke up. It’s amazing how relevant they have remained.

This documentary made me realize a lot of things… first, John was a lot more present than what they had made us believe. He was cooperative, funny, submerged in the work, being the voice of reason when needed. Second, you can tell how much Paul loves John, being supportive of his relationship with Yoko. Third, George is just done. He ruined a lot of funny/light moments with his bitterness. You can tell he had a lot of resentment towards the other two. Fourth, Ringo is probably the most easy going/ loving rockstar that’s ever existed.

Yeah… it really feels like Harrison is being locked up in a cage, he wants to make his own music, and it hurts him, because he knows hes not as great as lennon and mcartney

A am 2/3's through this and feel like a time traveller. This is priceless, historical footage. First of all, their talent and the hard work they put into their craft is so apparent. Also, what I am seeing is a John Lennon I never realized existed. He comes across as the most relaxed and funny of the group. Paul can be funny but he's more guarded and likes to be the one in charge. I can see the wheels spinning behind his eyes a lot too, not always happy about things going on. The way Yoko is constantly by Lennon's side is pretty cliché "Yoko Ono" - but they were so young then you have to cut them some slack for that. Ringo is much quieter than I would have expected and just seems to be there to do the job with less ego involved than I would have thought. George is already detached and in another world apart from being a Beatle. He also seems annoyed much of the time, but that could be that he was just over it. And the thing that struck me most of all was John and Paul's relationship. Whatever happened through the remaining years, they come across as soulmates. There is a direct line of energy between them that is almost visible.

been reading the comments on people telling their favourite bits. after watching through it over and over, I think mine is the interview with two random girls on the street. it's like watching two teens today. just wondering about the band they like... I think this is one of the most things we get distracted of by all the noise. these were just people. it was only one band. yes they were huge, but I guess this is what I like looking at. this is what these footages are about... the intimate truth of a time we couldn't get back to see. these are not newspapers, no tales, no guessing, no passion. these are real moments, real fear, real young people giving what they had to give. and they were in an English band called The Beatles! i respect these human lifes so much, in all their trajectory. yes, of course, this is also probably not fully accurate and honest to who they were... but I bet we've never been so close. honestly can't wait for it. thank you peter

Watched it so many times. The moment that always hits me is 2:28. 'Do you want to do it once more then?' and John saying 'we'll never get a chance to do it again'. Too right. This was a moment in cultural history, magical in the making and never to be repeated.
