“The Beatles never played it live…”Which means they never played it again in their entire career as a band, even for themselves. It’s mind blowing. imagine Sinatra recording My Way once in studio then never singing it again the rest of his life. The Beatles were unique.
@123danvc5 ай бұрын
That is mind blowing they never played it again as a band, and I think it’s in their top 5 best songs. I would rate it higher but so many of their melodies are so beautiful it’s hard to rate their songs. It’s safe to say they just don’t write songs like this anymore! That casino has a very distinctive sound that’s heard on several of their albums.

No way… was listening to this song just earlier today on a long train journey and, as with each time I’ve listened to it, I heard that closing lick you said is Harrison using a volume pedal and wondered at it… I was ALWAYS convinced it was horns. I marvelled at the fact that the Beatles must’ve commanded such power at EMI that they could hire a horn section just for the closing bar of a song and never use it anywhere else on the track. But it’s a volume pedal… of course. Now I hear it. You ALWAYS reveal something new, Mr P, even on songs I’ve listened to since birth. 👍

That was over the top fantastic Mike! Definitely one of my favorite Beatles tunes. Their harmonies on that song are incredible! Pure musical genius and played to perfection by Paul & George! Thanks again for keeping their music alive & well. Hope that things are good in France! 👍👍🎸🎸🎤🎤🥁🥁👏👏

This song is a great example of the Beatles economy of combo playing and production. One rhythm guitar, lead guitar only on fills in the bridge, bass, drums and vocals. Can you imagine if Phil Spector produced this! He would have had 10 stacked guitars , 3 pianos and a choir! Great lesson, thank you.

I'm in awe of your background knowledge of the Beatles songs and your ability to break down the musical sections. I've listened to these songs for fifty years and never heard the intricacies you bring to the table. You may think not another song, but you've got me listening again like I've never done before. Thank you.

No need to be "in awe of (my) background knowledge." I simply do a LOT of research in books and on the web, take notes and then deliver the info. Truth-be-told I probably forget MOST of what I've said the day after taping the lesson.

Thanks, Mike. Paul has said he and John included preambles because they were influenced by the standards. John did it on If I Fell. Strangely, Paul changed the words to "I need a love of my own" when he played it on Give My Regards to Broad Street and for some time after. I think he's gone back to "here" now.
