Can you even imagine people walking up to the stage and getting so close and singing along with a band today ? They would be tackled and arrested. I feel lucky to have lived thru these times when people just loved and cared for each other. Now there is far too little love and way too much hate.

It is well known that McCartney wrote Hey Jude to reach out to Lennon's son to help him deal with his parents spliting up. However, many people overlook the fact that Lennon actually wrote the song, Good Night, for Julian prior to the release of Hey Jude. Both songs were recorded within weeks of each other. Lennon wrote his song as a lullaby for his son, who was 5 years old at the time. The tune was recorded in June 1968 and ultimately released on the White Album later that year in November. In turn, Hey Jude was recorded in July and released in August as a single. McCartney continues to receive heaps of praise for caring about Julian via this song, but virtually nothing is said about Lennon's effort to comfort his son in his own way.

David Frost was a legendary interviewer back then, yes this was a moment in music history.

And their final song Now and Then (especially paired with the video) just recently released is so bittersweet and moving for us long time Beatles fans.

Thank you again, young fellow, for helping to remind me how glad I am to be the age that I am, having lived through and experienced the Golden Age of Recorded Music. Love the song, loved the reaction, but my favorite part is the crowd crowding around The Beatles and being part of their jam, smiles and awed looks all around. I remember seeing it on television back then and being enchanted, but seeing it again now I can fully appreciate how fortunate my generation-mates and I have been.

It's great to see David Frost again (announcer). He had such a dry British wit and insightful interviewer. Make note of Ringo's drums in this song. He changes many times and always on the cymbal.

I was 6 years old when I first saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show, I stood in line to see the movies, bought all the albums and love to listen to them and this is one of my favorite songs of theirs

I was lucky my parents stayed together and loved each other to the end. Divorce was not very prevalent when I was growing up in the 50's and 60's. It was a different time not just for that but a lot of things and I miss it.

paul said he told john that the line "the movement you need is on your shoulder" was just a placeholder until he came up with a better line. john told him to keep it in saying, "that's the best line in the whole bloody song". lennon/mc cartney were the best songwriters of the 60s, perhaps in all pop music history.

Did you see Paul looking at John at 4:33 because he had forgot to do backing vocals and John making eyes back and shrugging his shoulders, then at 5:23 Paul looks over at John again to remind him to do his backing vocal.

This live version is excellent (but I like the Album version better). Paul McCartney lets it rip on the singing on the Album version. It's hard to imagine someone writing you a song this good for a child to make you feel better. That's a Cosmic kindness. I remember watching this on the Ed Sullivan show. It be came number one in the charts. The 7min plus song that over took our youth. I remember singing the refrain All of us gradeschoolers while we were in line from recess. I'll never forget that. Sends chills all over me. The Beatles escorted me thru grade school. Our Government banned them Ed Sullivan continued to make them relevant. Beatles Started it all. They have a place in my heart...

Watched that on TV Top of the Pops when it had its first play. Utterly amazing. The guy who introduced them at the start was TV presenter David Frost. They were playing the theme to his show.. Best band. Great song. They used that party song affect when they recorded All you need is Love, too. That might be worth a view.

The one thing I've noticed more and more so, as the years have gone quickly by is such diversity of the crowd, and everyone smiling and singing and clapping, and enjoying themselves. During this time was a time of hope, that culminated in Woodstock, then quickly came crashing to a halt with the Altamont Speedway Free Festival was a counterculture rock concert in the United States, held on Saturday, December 6, 1969, where the Rolling Stones had the Hell Angels as security that caused some deaths. We did have a moment of hope, even I, as a 10 year old recognized and felt.

I don't think alot of people fully understand how immensely huge and completely relevant the Beatles still are today. The mere mention of the band name, or their individual names, commands direct attention. There is, and will never be...... entertainers that will ever be on the same plain.

Just recently Julian was asked how he feels today about Paul writing this song for him. He said he has mixed feelings about it because first of all Paul wrote it for him which is one of the best gifts of all but on the other hand is FOR the reason he wrote it and it just reminds him of how he was treated as he was growing up.

A band shows it’s strength during a live performance. And when they played Shea Stadium, they couldn’t even hear themselves from all the screaming, and yet their performance was flawless. Those are musicians.

I was in high school and I remember the day this song was released and the build-up to the first time it was going to be played on the radio. I was supposes to be at work at 6 that day and the first play of the song was 5:50. I was in my room listening to it and my dad was yelling at me because I was going to be late for work. I didn't care and I waited and listened 'till the end. And I was late for work by a few minutes and my co-workers asked me question after question about the new song. Such a different time. Congrats on taking control of your life and becoming a better person for yourself and for your family.

The reason Jules was changed to Jude was because it sounded better when sung. It was hard to transition from the “ls” sound to the following words.

What an experience it must have been to be in that audience! I wonder how they were selected? I guess a lot of them are still around today. It might be worth your while re-acting to the B side also, Revolution, which also had a promo film shot by the same director. This is the hard rock version, not the more laid back album track. Incidentally, in recent years the "na-na-na" chorus has become really popular to play over the public address systems at football (soccer) grounds here in the U.K. in order to gee up the crowds before and after the matches.

I know I'm probably odd man out, but even though I like all of The Beatles, George was always my favorite. Such memories. Thank you! Keep these reactions coming. Look forward to them ✌️

My favorite story about this song is that Paul almost scrapped the lyric "The movement you need is on your shoulder." He had plugged in those lyrics as placeholders, and thought they were basically nonsensical. But John told him to leave that line alone. Paul said, "OK, but what does it mean?" John said: "It means, the movement you need, is on your shoulder." I've never forgotten that. It's not only a great line, but an example of how sometimes, we've done better than we think.

My parents split when I was 13. Best night of sleep I've ever had. Loved them both, but got so tired of the arguing. The best for all of us.

I Love this video! It shows the Beatles goofed around a lot, they were young men, but when it came time for business they could do that too. If I was there I would be standing with Ringo. He seems the most approachable to me.

One of the best pop songs and made better by Paul when he sang it in concerts later having the men, then the women, and then both doing the Hey Jude harmony together . It just brings out the emotions bringing the audience all together!

And apparently it's being released as a single with the other side of it being their very first hit, love me do.

Sir Paul and Julian remain very close to this day. Take a look at the album cover for Julian's most recent release "Jules", the picture was taken about the time of this song's release. (on another note, statistics are manipulated to address what the author wants it to address. Some of us just say "I'm not going to put someone else through what I went through.)

Unfortunately the pattern continued in a way, because John's son SEAN with Yoko, was 5 years old when John was murdered. EERIE.

There's no Beatles songs I don't like, I used to have the Beatles Anthoogy. Which is every one of their songs and a bunch of interviews. One of my daughters friends stole it, it was around $100 for the set.
