Can someone explain this to someone unfamiliar with the culture/history background. Did the eunuch marry a servant? Could they marry them despite um being a eunuch? What drugs was he taking? How do they have children?

They didn't have any children which would have made her a childless bride. Their marriage didn't last long thanks goodness. I think the Eunuch get their sacks cut off.. something like that .. He was taken some out law drugs that was forbidden..(pills) it made him high, violent and out of control.

The eunuch is the emperors personal eunuch. The empress married her unwilling maid to him to get a spy close to the emperor. The drugs he is taking is a strong lust drug to ensure an erection, that also makes him violent. It's heard in earlier episodes that he is bragging of being manly with his wife... Disgusting. They would not be able to have children. Under some rules these marriages were not allowed because servants shouldn't have a SO to distract from their duties- palace maids left the palace when they get married.

Eunuchs had all their external genitalia removed, but they did get married if they achieved sufficient funds, obviously not marriages in the usual sense of today. I recommend the book "The Last Eunuch", an autobiograohical account, it gives a very fair idea of how this system worked.

Eunuchs have all their external genitalia removed upon becoming an eunuch, and the lack of “manhood” tends to make them mentally twisted when it comes to sexual relationships. With no penis, they have no way of actually performing any sexual tasks and often turn to physically torturing any maids unfortunate enough to be married to them. I think eunuch marriages are uncommon though, and maids are allowed to leave the palace after age 25 if unmarried.
