The Beautiful South was an English pop group formed at the end of the 1980s by two former members of Hull group The Housemartins, Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway. Other members were Sean Welch (bass), Dave Stead (drums) and Dave Rotheray (guitar) and a succession of female vocalists - Briana Corrigan, Jacqui Abbott and Alison Wheeler.
The group broke up in January 2007, claiming the split was due to "musical similarities",having sold around 15,000,000 records worldwide. In January 2009, it was announced that the former members Dave Hemingway, Alison Wheeler, and Dave Stead would reform under the name "New Beautiful South" which was later changed to "The South".

Brianna Corrigan. According the the biography written about the band, she left because she started to feel uncomfortable with the darker tone Paul Heaton's lyrics were taking, particularly in songs about relationships (she pretty much refused to sing 'Mini-Correct' for example.) She then tried to make a solo career for herself, but never achieved the heights she reached when she was with The Beautiful South.

Even when I was 7 I knew some of those drum sounds like the, bass drum, side stick and tambourine were digitized sounds, back then I thought they used a Roland SC-55 Sound Canvas sound module but it's actually a Roland R-8 drum machine. I think the drummer probably used a mix of acoustic and electronic drums. Back in the day I probably thought the organ sounds came from a Casio keyboard as my CT-700 has an organ that sounds the same but if a keyboard was used it would most likely be a Korg or a Kurzweil but the tremolo sounds suggest maybe they could have used a Hammond although with a professional keyboard you can get that tremolo effect by using the modulation wheel, something my Casio CT-700 does not have!

Can anyone explain why this song has 111,000 hits, and I have just watched a REM song with 817 million hits? Don't get me wrong, I like REM but it doesn't make sense. To answer my own question it must be that they never made it in the USA.
