I've known this very talented director since I saw "Gladiator" and have been an dogged fan of all his films ever since: from The Duelists to Alien to end The Last Duel. A director who has always been attentive, almost obsessively to the image, but above all to the scenic representation which is of vital importance for the story and with a particular skill in the use of long and panoramic shots of great effect. The cinematographic contribution that Ridley Scott has given to us viewers with historical and sci - fi films is immense. "Blade Runner" is immense! Also, I think this is your 30th video on the filmography of a director, Marc. As always: Great job! 🎥

I watched few Ridley Scott Movies. But I haven't watched many Ridley Scott movies. For past 4 days I been watching Ridley Scott movies. I think I watched about 12 movies of Ridley Scott. 2 years before I watched Blade Runner and Body of Lies without knowing that these are Ridley Scott movies. To be frank I watched Body of Lies only for Leonardo Dicaprio. I think it's just a perfect timing to see the beauty of Ridley Scott. This video tempted me even more to watch his movies. I don't know whether it's right or wrong but am I the only person who thinks that Ridley Scott movies are somewhat slow. Why I am asking is because both prometheus and alien covenant are somewhat slow. I wouldn't say it's boring but it took it's time to get into the plot. Yesterday I watched Thelma and Louise it's a great movie. The movie just flew like a rocket. If you want to add any comment please feel free to drop it on the comment box. Thank you for uploading the video.

I think all good stories are told slowly and with lots of detail which i appreciate more and more as i get older. Prometheus wouldn't be the same without the scenes of David rewatching "Lawrence of Arabia" and combing his hair in fashion of the character of Lawrence in my humble opinion. Sometimes i wish these movies would last at least half an hour more🤤

This is what lacks in indie (well, youtube) filmmakers. Movement. Every frame has some sort of movement in it. If the shot is locked off, and the characters aren't moving then you best bet there will be some fog/fire/shadows/flickering etc. Every single shot has life.
@playstationaccount4473
@playstationaccount4473 Жыл бұрын
Can you elaborate? Don't you think the major issue with indie films is the camera quality? I think that's the main thing that gives it away for me.
@Elusive_Pete
@Elusive_Pete Жыл бұрын
@@playstationaccount4473 I wouldn't believe camera quality is inherently the problem, it's their usage. Too much corner cutting with plonking a camera down and thinking whatever happens in the scene is interesting enough. In Ridley Scott's films he envisions life in every frame. He and his DoP light with the full gamut of exposure: shadows, mids and highlights.. that's why there is so much three dimensionality in his pictures, and it's only every helped by the fact that there is always movement in the frame. Look at 1:18 .. the character in frame is not moving much, but the birds beside him have their own life. On the topic of cameras.. with digital you can gauge exposure levels better than before, so there is no excuse as to why things are exposed terribly. And by the way, not every film looks perfectly exposed or graded anyway. Cameras aren't to blame. Shane Hurlbut mentions something called "Camera emotion". Meaning there is a language and presentation to what's going on. The movement is also meant to synchronize with the music. And lastly. Film vs digital plays a big part too. With digital there is a yearning for technological perfection. The hunt for zero noise and more dynamic range has made images a little more sterile. Film is not perfect, but that's why it's still special. It's the blood that runs through the image.
