I've been on a guided tour of the Bell property which included a tour of the cave. A small stream, no more than 10 - 12 inches across, runs through the middle of the cave and my dad and I were in the back of the tour group. Suddenly, splashing footsteps came from behind, plodding through the stream. My dad and I both turned, looking on expectantly in terror when, out of the shadows, the tour guides black lab came trotting up to us for a head-scratch. Ever after, my dad and I would tease each other about who was the most terrified. For the record, he was. :)

@@willywonka7812 Not defending shooting at a dog. Normally I would/do agree with you. But keep in mind this was an unnatural looking dog the size of a large wolf (MUCH bigger than a typical canine) and this was the early 19th century in rural Tennessee when violent animal attacks were far from uncommon. Grew up in Nashville and the Bell Witch was a major part of my life there. Our next door neighbor was an old lady from Adams, TN where the haunting originated. She knew I was interested in ghosts so she gifted me an early copy of the book about the subject. The subject matter freaked out my Mom so she tried to return the book but my neighbor adamantly refused to take it back believing the book was cursed. As an adult, I worked on an opera at the Tennessee Performing Art Center which had three theaters named after the three US Presidents from Tennessee...Polk, Johnson and....Andrew Jackson. Strange events happened on opening night including an almost catastrophic failing that could have seriously harmed the first few rows of the theater. The flats representing the buildings surrounding the gates of Paris ripped all the support jacks out of place and the only thing keeping these 20-30 feet tall set pieces from falling into the audience was the night scrim that was a see through screen like material that gave the appearance of night to the scene. We quickly got everything right and held on to the support jacks for the rest of the performance. I looked at one of the permanent staff stagehand/carpenters as we held the jacks in place and he mouthed to me...Bell Witch. At the end of the performance I asked him what he meant. He asked me which theater we were in. It was the Andrew Jackson theater. He reminded me how the building of TPAC was plagued by freak accidents and deaths. I remembered reading or hearing about the storm that hit the construction and some of the accidents. He even said during the grand opening of the complex, a chandelier fell into the crowded lobby of the Andrew Jackson theater (I cannot verify this). Opening night in an Andrew Jackson Theater performance is plagued by unexplained problems and accidents that do not happen in the other two theaters. He told me the Andrew Jackson theater was cursed. This was in the late 80's. Don't know if strange things are still going on. Have fun! no1ukn0

I’m 67 years old now and I am a Tennessee native. Approximately 60 years ago my grandparents took my brother and I to Adam’s Tn to the “bell” mansion. Their goal for what ever reason… why Adam’s ? Was to pick Polk salad . Now Polk salad can be found everywhere so why Adam’s ? I’ll never know. As they were outside picking Polk salad my brother and I had the most amazing adventure. Because the “ mansion “ was still there. Almost perfectly intact. It was big! Two stories wide open with the original wall paper, now very old and shredded but still intact. The house of course had been vandalized but even at the age of 7 the feeling there wasn’t anything scary but it definitely had an energy about it. I remember taking some wallpaper home. We spent about 2 hours there and we explored almost the entire house. These people were apparently very well off. Do I believe the story? Yes to an extent. The bell witch cave … absolutely not! I think a lot of the stories are fabricated. I grew up on the Cumberland river and experienced years of paranormal activity of every kind. I know paranormal when I see it or feel it.

I grew up less than 5 miles from the original Bell House, and it feels surreal to hear about our local legend. Any RobCo resident knows of the legend and all of the details involved, and there’s definitely no shortage of stories/experiences told. Regardless, there is definitely something strange that inhabits this area, always some unexplainable sounds, murmurs, figures going on in these woods, and only intensifies the closer you get to the Bell property. Younger generations think of it as a boogeyman story told to keep young kids close to home, but all of us around 30 and older know better, as our grandparents do not take it lightly AT ALL. Thank you for sharing this story, and all of the others!

The Bell Witch legend centers on the Bell family, who lived in Robertson County, Tennessee, in the early 19th century. The haunting began in 1817 and reportedly ended in 1821. Here's a brief timeline of the events:Start: 1817 - The Bell family started experiencing disturbances, such as strange noises, physical assaults, and unusual phenomena.End: 1821 - The haunting largely ceased after the death of John Bell, who the entity claimed to despise and supposedly poisoned. The Bell Witch legend persisted beyond 1821, with some reports suggesting sporadic activity in the years that followed, but the primary period of intense haunting lasted from 1817 to 1821.

I am writing to share the most incredible thing you will ever hear, and it has everything to do with your position if you will follow it. First, it is impossible that anything you can touch, taste, hear, see or smell on the face of the earth, be it lighting, tornados, rocks, life, minerals from salt to plutonium or anything that can be with the powerful telescope we have in orbit and beyond what we can see, that could possibly exist without having been created. Because of this, we can be sure that everything that is had to be made where there was absolutely nothing to make it out of. Romans 1:20 New International For since creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been , so that people are without excuse. So you see, there is a God. I myself have studied world religions in depth in college and much more so on own time. I have found that the only religion that holds water is Christianity. I am no affiliate of any Christian denomination as they are called because the enemy has a very well received counterfeit in place in nearly all of them, and the condition is terminal. I am Messianic, where I find Truth to be most rightly applied and followed. The bill of rights we share is such a blessing. But I will quote TobyMcKeehan with Times are changing/With morals in decay/Human rights have made the wrong okay. I am only showing you the way as I have found it through much study and life experience. Perhaps my best case for Truth of this is found in the book of Habakkuk 1-2:17 where he was given a vision of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany. Some very strong and interesting proof is in the discovery of Sodom and Gomorrah. This is in these videos. Pt. 1 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Zrejmrxilpupdpc.html Pt. 2 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/btacm5d_stW1o2w.html And here is where the remains of pharaoh's army is found in the red sea. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jpl-qKScvbvbpWQ.html Gnesis 19:24 New International Version Then the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah--from the LORD out of the heavens. Brimstone found there is over 95 percent pure. The purest sulfur anywhere else is just over 45% and is found near active geothermal regions. Brimstone such as is found near these two infamous cities is found nowhere else on earth. Yet here it is still, a God-given supernatural element to warn those who would live against Him. 2 Peter 2:6 If He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction, reducing them to ashes as an example of what is coming on the ungodly; He is love or He wouldn't have warned us.After much consideration I found truth best taught and followed as a Messianic. Here are two of the videos I found on this. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eqiDfNZjx67NZZs.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Zrejmrxilpupdpc.html&t=2s THESE 2 VIDEOS ARE UNDENIABLE PROOF OF NOAH'S ARK AND SODOM AND GOMORRAH. IT WAS SOUND AND THE DIMENSIONS AND MEASUREMENTS MATCH THE BIBLICAL RECORD EXACTLY. WHAT THEY FIRST SAW LOOKED TO BE AN OUTLINE OF A SHIP IN THE MOUNTAINS OF ARARAT WHERE THE BIBLE SAID THE ARK SETTLED. IT WAS MOSTLY PETRIFIED WOOD WITH LINES OF METAL RUNNING THE LENGTH OF THE ARK REMAINS EVENLY SPACED ACROSS. THIS MEDAL WAS NOT FOUND OUTSIDE THE ARK. THE ALSO FOUND PETRIFIED ANIMAL DROPPINGS AND WHAT LOOK TO BE RIB TIMBERS USED IN CONSTRUCTION. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pbenmbhoqdy5qXk.html BELOW ARE THE ACTUAL REMAINS OF SODOM AND GOMORRAH'S ASHEN REMAINS. MILLIONS OF PIECES OF BRIMSTONE WAS FOUND IN THE AREA OF THE CITIES, BUT NONE IN BETWEEN THEM. BRIMSTONE MEANS SULFUR. THIS SULFUR IS 98% PURE. THE PUREST SULFUR FOUND ANYWHERE ELSE ON EARTH IS A MAZIMUM 40% PURE. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fc6EnaiTs824gYE.html

The Bell Witch was THE "monster under my bed" of my childhood. I live in Kentucky and it was close enough. I remember adults swearing theyd seen or heard the witch when visiting the Bell's land. I thought id never get over that fear....until i turned 17 and learned that real monsters are made of flesh and blood and look live everyone else. Two monsters tried to ruin me...i didnt allow it. I have a wonderful family and every day i choose to be happy. And some days it's for no other reason than "because fuck them. that's why". this one is honestly kinda chilling for me, at least the first part about the sounds of rats. because when I was younger I would always hear what sounded like mice or rats scratching at the attic floor above my loft bed and just the sounds of what sounded like a rat or mouse or other small animal moving around on the floor, I had a ferret at the time so that was my first assumption, I thought he had somehow gotten stuck in my room that night when the door had been closed, but it happened without fail each night and whenever I would move to get up and turn on my phone flashlight to try and figure out if he was in my room or we had a mouse in the house, it would stop immediately (I had a very squeaky bed so it very well might have just been a mouse and heard me moving) and I could never find what was making the noise or any evidence of a mouse, and the ferret was in his cage every time.

Agree. Mr Ballen makes you feel like you're listening to an old friend. In a world where technology has left us more solitary and isolated than any time in human history this experience fills a void by simulating a feeling of social connection. Storytelling is practically a lost art nowadays. It was once a valuable social skill and an important part of life especially in small towns and in pre-industrial societies. Spent much of my 20s in small island communities in the Pacific - mostly French Polynesia and Hawaii - where every community has at least one "raconteur" , often the most extroverted and entertaining member of the community, who could tell any story so that everyone would listen, hanging on their every word.

Thank you Mr Ballen for covering this story! I live not terribly far from there, and when my children were small, we drove one day to find their farm. It wasn’t open to public but found the original farm area and a house on it. The family that lived there allowed us to explore a small cave on the Red River there on the property. We went in with kids in tow, and went on a short ‘explore’ in it. It was an easy walk with a small creek. After a short time in there, we got that ‘feeling’ we weren’t alone with the hairs on our necks prickling up. We left pretty quickly, thinking we were most likely disturbing something that was still there. This area was known to have Native Americans that lived there as well as the farming community, so we were never certain if we had disturbed them or something altogether different. I still remember that adventure very clearly. I wasn’t well acquainted with the story of the Bell witch at the time, or I’d most likely decided we shouldn’t have disturbed the area. Great addition to the strange dark and mysterious! These are such a highlight whenever you post, and I’m working through your list on Amazon Music. Thank you for the enormous amount of work you put into these stories! 👻❤️

Rural Ireland here. My childhood home was haunted (my youngest brother now lives there) the knocking on the wall used to drive me nuts. I'd be lying in bed and it would start, after so long I'd get up but by the time I'd get to the door they'd stop. Back into bed and they'd start again. A glass of water flew off my locker one night, i just cleaned up and went to sleep. I saw a little girl, dressed in white outside my daughters bedroom, she saw her all the time. There was an extra baby cot in her room and she'd see her sleeping in it! My daughters toys would also be moved around (we assumed the little girl playing with them). My mother and brothers would hear someone walking up the hall and they described it like the person was wearing a cloak (like it swished as they walked). Another time my mother said something grabbed her foot in bed and my daughter at about age 18 was in my childhood bedroom and something grabbed her foot, she never went in there again. My nephew, when he was about 18 months old, saw something, my mother just picked him up from his nap and we were in the hall and next thing he gasped a few times and pointed and followed as 'something' walked past, ill never forget that! My daughter has seen things close to our house (we built it) i told her she's not to bring any of the ghosts to our new house! Best of all my sister in law doesn't know any of this and i was warned not to say anything to her or she never would have moved in.
