How does neutral and reverse work?

I know nothing about these devices and I came to this video to learn. So, it is my assumption that when you release the pedal, it springs back to neutral position on its own. As for reverse, in the video, you can see the pedal has a “hook” partially covering the top of the foot. When you pull back your foot, you catch the hook thus pulling the pedal backwards which engages the reverse.

You still use the hand throttle to shift to nutral and reverse. Pull throttle back to engage reverse and push the foot peddle to speed up. If you push the throttle forward you go idle speed until you hit foot peddle. The little hook looking thing is just to help you locate and keep your foot in position.
