Such a beautiful story. Bob was right, you wouldn't believe it. Absolutely in tears while writing this; rest in peace Bert. Such a powerful story from such a kind and warm person. Thank you for making your mark in so many things to do with life. It wasn't simply football but you attitude towards people that undoubtably tried standing in your way only to be won over by you amazing character. Gandhi once said people will laugh at you, get angry with you, fight you...and then you win. May you be blessed in the next life. I only hope I lead a humble life in the same way you did. A truly inspiring story. Thank you.

1950s: Professional football players are going on buses to the stadium and enjoy being a member of the community 2000s: Professional football players need an expensive car for 300.000 € or more to attract attention in the community Times have changed...

that is the difference between someone who plays football for money, and someone who plays football for his life!

after watching his story - as a German Man United supporter - I really need to say he was a great person and a great goalkeeper. he has truly done very much for the relationship between German and British people - and that's something only football can do - bringing people together with absolutely contrary backgrounds. rest in peace!

Excellent documentary. Bert stands out as a symbol of brotherhood in difficult times. It does not matter where you were born. It matters what you do.

He did a lot for the relationship between Germany and England, between the German and English people. In a way its fitting, the Germans and the English are so much alike. He did a lot for the sport we have come to know as football too. Ruhe in Frieden. Rest in Peace.

I mean we are genetically almost identical to the English, they are mostly of saxon descent

A fitting tribute to a legend! It's a shame that footballers nowadays are overpaid and pathetic. R.I.P Bert Trautmann

Ruhe in Frieden. Ein großer Sportsmann. Du hättest zu den Helden von Bern gehören sollen, aber vielleicht war es gut so. Du solltest deine Geschichte in England schreiben. Rest in peace, Bert Trautmann! You should have been one of the Heroes of Bern (Germany's World Cup winning team of 1954), but maybe it was for the better. Your story was to be written in England.

Seriously can not imagine how painful it must have been diving for the ball head first with that injury... unbelievable that he didn't pass out.

Er wäre übrigens fast einmal ein Schalker geworden, wenn die Ablösesumme, die ManCity aufgerufen hat, nicht so hoch gewesen wäre (20000 Pfund, was damals 250000 DM entsprach).

Those like Bert Trautmann, Nat Lofthouse, Stanley Matthews and many others from that era are real footballers. Although there maybe a few exceptions today :)

What did he say in his last sentence? I only understood the last part of the sentence (even if I was born in Germany) but I didn't understand the first part of the sentence.

He said "I'm more English than German even when I was born in Germany". Thanks for watching!

The movie was somehow a bio pic and also an attempt to attract viewers without interest in footy or Bert Trautman in general. Think that's perhaps a point they had to make in order to gain box office revenues. Most of these films lose accuracy to get a smooth story.
