100% agree about the Petrel pot , i use the Toaks 700 mug lid on mine which is lighter than the clear plastic one . I have sold my MSR Windburner and MSR Reactor since discovering the Petrel which i combine with the Soto Windmaster, this combo is the most fuel efficient gas stove system i have ever used and at the price it sells for its an absolute no brainer. Thanks to you i discovered the Petrel :)

Agree, Ive tested mine in Scotland in multi day with Soto Windmaster 3 fold and worked perfect, super fast, super efficient. Best one so far for me and will not change it anytime soon haha. 100g gas can and all extra bits fits inside as well!

I just brought the Fire Maple pot on it's first trip. It is now my go to. Sitting on my MSR Pocket Rocket it is very stable. I boiled coffee water in under 2 minutes. This will be a great fuel saver. Side note, this will not work with the BRS stove.

That’s rad! Yeah the pot supports have to come off the burner perpendicular and the brs doesn’t, it’s also a little small for the pot to feel stable enough.
@danamkaplan
@danamkaplan 16 күн бұрын
Fyi, you can simply bend the support bars outward on the BRS to be 120 deg radially. It totally works and it's much more fuel efficient than brs on a pot with no Hx system.

I was so excited to try out the fire maple pot and was bummed to discover that it didn’t work with my BRS. Good to know it works with the pocket rocket, as I was considering upgrading… but if you really can bend the support arms on the BRS, that would be perfect! I don’t mind adding 2oz for the pot (I currently use a Toaks 750ml), but switching out stoves will add another 2 oz almost.

Hey great video! I want to switch my sea to summit collapsible kettle to a pot and the fire maple looks like it may be the best choice. Your little humidity/thermometer thingy is cool. I’ve searched and searched and still haven’t found a video that covers when to use the rain fly (duh when it rains) or when you can leave it off and star gaze. How do we know when it will be too humid to leave off the rain fly? Is it the ground that we set up on? I’d love to see a video that explains when it’s okay to star gaze (besides when it’s NOT raining)!! Thanks :)

Nice video. I've been digging into headlamps lately but going in the opposite direction. I'll need more battery life and brightness and ended up with a Fenix HM50R. I like that it can be detached and clipped on like a backpack or stand up on its own. I was thinking of something tiny like a Nite Ize Moonlit when I don't need much light. The Fire Maple looks a lot nicer now that I found out from mountain hopper 57 that the Triflex pot stand on the Windmaster fits.

for the dry bags, i got a set off amazon that included a 20l bag. I use them to organize my pack which adds a little weight but adds waterproofing and organization so im ok with it. @annethornton9938
@annethornton9938 4 күн бұрын
@@BackcountryExposure I thought that's what it was. I picked up the Soloist as my first cookset, and like the versatility of it enough that I've considered picking up the Dualist HS (HeatSink version) for backpacking with my family. I avoid teflon in home cooking, but the extra durable version they have for the Pinnacle, the rarity of use in a year, and the essential ease of cleanup (Kraft Mac & Cheese for my picky kids) have sold me. If I was only ever going to boil water I'd definitely pick up the FireMaple though, from everything I've seen - from you & others - it's a great light (if not truly UL) option.

Does this pot fit the brs stove? I’m so intrigued by this jet boil/ standard backpacking stove hybrid. One of my complaints about my brs and Toaks pot is that it’s not quite big enough to actually cook in. It’s great for just boiling water but I use my stoves to actually cook in sometimes

The BRS is a little small for this pot, and the pot supports of the BRS don't fit into the slots of the pot. I'd recommend the Fire Maple Buzz or GreenPeak for a low cost option to pair with this pot.

Why don’t any of the pot makers, make a titanium pot with a heat exchanger? Seems to me that titanium in particular needs the assistance
@ddff5242
@ddff5242 15 күн бұрын
I've wondered this too. I'm guessing it has to do with the fact that titanium is really bad at transferring heat compared to aluminum. Maybe testing shows it doesn't help very much do to the metal properies? Just a guess
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure 14 күн бұрын
You're highly unlikely to see it happen. The issue is titanium really isn't a great conductor of heat and with the heat exchanger there would be a limited amount of actual benefit for the weight. Not to mention the significant added cost. The other issue is that the small fins of titanium and welds would suffer from warping and issues that way.
