Great playing, great tone and a great amp! Crunch Orange is where I spend at least 75% of my time. I think people get intimidated when they see all the knobs on the JVMs and they don't realize they are just repeats for each channel. Thanks for doing this!

Great playing showcasing the versatility of the JVM! I had a JVM210H for about a decade and upgraded to the JVM410H this year after getting a couple others that are 3 channel. I prefer the tonal variations of the standard and have to run a gate (like with the rest out of habit) sometimes but that always was the trade off with the JS not having reverb.

Yeah the JS version is a sleeper jem. The 2 biggest differences from the stock is that obviously the reverb section is swapped for gating...and that the orange channel is the preamp from the AFD100, which is the S.I.R. modded JCM800. JS wanted that really percussive tight crispy sound from the AFD on one of the channels. It's weird to me how that circuit mod from the original isn't really general knowledge, as it seems the most important thing. It's prolly why you like that orange channel. I remember the old Marshall promo videos touting this, then when the whole AFD thing for marshall ended, all promo that referred to 'afd' vaporized...incl the original marshall video with JS talking about the amp. Always love your amp run thru's, really well done. 🤘👍

Yep. Kinda wished I had kept mine to have but I prefer the original. It's just more over the top which I like. Personally wished the 410 had the gate as opposed the reverb and I prefer the loop on the Satch model though I've never had issue with stock loop on the 410. Both the Satch model is a more refined or dialed in version of the stock.

Sold my regular JVM 410h to get one of these. It’s all about those crunch channel modes man, they absolutely slay the original jvm crunch channel. But I actually prefer the clean green of the original JVM, beautiful lush and shimmery, the JS version sounds sterile in comparison to me. Also, wish they would of kept just one of the original OD channels; sure, they’re SUPER compressed but that actually kinda works better for most modern metal where you want things as tight as possible. The JS needs a boost on OD1/2 to tighten things up for modern metal tones, it’s just too loose and flubby otherwise (which, in fairness, IS more the classic Marshall sound). Maybe there is a mod that can be done to get OD1/2 tighter… but if it fucks with the crunch channel at all I wouldn’t even be tempted.
@heythere6983

I’d also be interesting in a mod for tightening the sound . It’s always been a kinda flubby amp. It’s a bit overrated .

Digging the LP matches the amp lol but I think the crown headstock inlay looks great on a Les Paul and it looks like a Norlin era ? That Headstock and the yellowed binding set it off. The Gretsch is really cool too and sounds awesome. I’d love to have our of these JVMs because it’s probably the closer you’ll ever get to nearly every legendary Marshall in the same box and I guess if it does plexi, straight through to JCM to modern Marshall it’s not that expensive control, but still at the price you’re getting around the boutique amp price and I guess the JVM is Marshall factory boutique .

Hi Zach. I watch a lot of your videos. Your tones and playing are always incredible and your reviews are extremely thorough. I always come back for more! I am actually trying to decide between 3 amps. I love the plexi tone of the 1987X. And am weighing that against the ability to get plexi and jcm 800 tones in the 410 HJS with the other serious contender being that beautiful Friedman SS-100 V2 that you coincidentally have sitting on top of this JVM. Can you share a few words on your thoughts of the Friedman Vs this 410 HJS please:)?
@ZachWish
@ZachWish Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Kent. Appreciate the kind words. The Friedman and the JVM410HJS are two of my current favorite amps. I typically shy away from amps that try to "do it all" with tons of channels and options, but the HJS is pretty incredible of everything actually being useful and sounding great. For the kind of music I play live, I don't really change sounds all that often, so I'd likely end up leaving it on the JCM800 channel (crunch/amber), but it's awesome to have all that flexibility when recording or producing other bands. I think at the end of the day, if you've got that "Marshall" sound in your head, it's pretty tough to beat and any other amp you put up against it will inevitably have that "well it's not a Marshall though" feeling. Having said that, the Friedman is a joy to play through. To me, that's the best part of a Friedman, they feel incredible to play. They have a bit of sag to them in a great way that is very similar to when you crank an old plexi. The fact that they're able to achieve that feel at any volume is pretty amazing. Tonally they're really refined, almost like they've already been EQ'd to sit in a mix where as the Marshall is a bit more raw and wild. In a recorded mix, I think you'd find them to sound really similar, so to me, it'd really just come down to the features that they offer, but you could spend all day going back and forth between to two and still not decide haha. Two of the very best out there in my opinion. Hope that's somewhat helpful. Thanks and take care.

You use the OD2 channel at all in this video? I was looking out for it but didn't hear it. Curious just how much gain this thing has... Can it do death metal like the JCM2000?
@ZachWish
@ZachWish Жыл бұрын
All three modes of OD1 & OD2 are actually identical on this amp as opposed to the original JVM410. Pretty cool design choice to me. That way you could dial in the OD2 channel to be similar to OD1 but with just a little bit more if you wanted to (more mids, bump in volume/gain, etc). I'd say if you were going for a death metal kind of thing (depending on the style), I'd hit it with a boost on the OD-1 Orange channel to tighten up the bottom end a little bit, but it could definitely do it. Opeth were using the HJS heads for a while in the mid 2010's and played a fair amount of their older tunes on them and I thought it sounded great at the time. Thanks for checking out the video!

@ZachWish
@ZachWish 2 ай бұрын
Thanks! Those two amps are realllllly similar sounding and two of my favorites that I've tried. I'd give the slight edge to the Friedman. Just sounds a bit more natural in terms of the gain, but again, really slight differences. They both have a ton of knobs, but I like the simplicity of the Friedman. For cleans, they're both great. For Crunch/800 tones, I think the Marshall does it better. For high gain, I'd go for the Friedman. The gate on the Marshall is also pretty incredible. Again, two of the best, versatile amps out there, so if you couldn't get it done with one of these amps, it's not the amp...

Of all the amps I've ever had, THIS one is the most sensitive to speakers. I have an old 1960A cabinet with early 90's G12T-75's - as well as an old Mesa 4x12 with G12-65's and Black Shadows in it. My JVM410h sounded like a ball of horrid shit through both cabinets. Too much gain on the OD channels. On the orange and yellow channels on OD 1 & 2, you can't really turn the preamp up to about 9 o'clock, and after that, it turns to mush. Anyways, I kept it, but got a Peavey Invective 120. The Peavey sounded MUCH better through the 75's, but it still wasn't quite "there." I got a couple of Vintage 30's and ran them with the 75's, and it got a lot better - but you couldn't hear the 75's (97dB's vs 100dB's)! Finally, I got a pair of Creamback 75's to run with the Vintage 30's, and holy GOD! Perfection. I finally got around to running the 410 through the cabinet now, and it was like comparing shit to gold. I was absolutely amazed at how much better the Marshall sounds. I also found it a major help to use the GREEN channels on OD1 & OD2, and use a tube screamer in front of both channels, and the difference is night and day. It definitely takes pedals/effects very good. The fact that Marshall tries selling this amp (or any of their amps) with G12T-75's is absolutely absurd. I know a lot of people like them, but they sounded like total ass with the 410. I still primarily use the Invective (it still sounds better to me), but I'm keeping the 410 now, as it's not the ass-sounding amp I thought it was. It goes to prove that SPEAKERS are the most important thing there is. Took me years to figure that out, but it is the truth!
