Firstly, a massive thanks for the support all year and secondly I've added time codes in the description! This is my annual best and worst recap video! This is all subjective stuff, of course. If there was something you found in 2019 that was great, please feel free to comment below! Cheers!

intheblues Great video Shane. I didn't buy any new gear this year except a 2015 Squire CV 50s Tele. Your review of that guitar is what convinced me to get it, and I'm glad I did. Keep up the good work. Us viewers appreciate your honest reviews and great chops!

2019 flew by like a flash!!!!! First of let me say that your channel is my favorite guitar related channel on KZfaq!!! The gear that you review here is at all price points and perhaps the best thing about your demos is you use it live. You don’t get that with some channels and it’s really important, whether you gig or not, if what you buy can be used and perform well. Thank you for doing what you do. For a one man operation the time and effort you put to make sure these videos look and sound great is mind blowing! As for the gear of 2019, the one review that sold me on gear is the Fender Tone Master Twin!! I’ve been on the fence about whether to get a 65 or 68 Deluxe Reverb and asked here in comments and on streams on others opinions. The Tone Master for me is the ultimate solution to that issue!!! It will be my first purchase of 2020. Like you, I also find that the Gibson Flying V is a favorite of mine!! I love the tones and the feel of it and I can’t put it down!!😂😂 The Artist Tweed Tone 20 is also a favorite amp you’ve done!!! Thanks again for all of your hard work and looking forward to 2020!! Cheers!!!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🥇🥇🥇🏆🏆🏆

Really like your content and just the overall quality. I also like that you reference gigging with certain gear. Although I don't gig, it often puts into perspective the choices manufaturers make that seemingly make no sense to us "homegamers" but are essential when gigging the stuff. Keep it going!

Hey Shane! Bravo man, on the channel. Appreciate your no-nonsense take and opinions on gear. Also really appreciate you digging around for value and quality for the budget-conscious! I am sad the Sonzera didn't click for you. I recently got the 20 combo. I do think what music styles the amp is used for definately is part of it, but I frankly love the combo. I use it for moderate to moderately-high gain stuff and I find the gain channel thick and growly without the fizz at the top. I imagine the combo vs. the head is part of it too. I tried the 50 combo and I also found the sound just overwhelming. Maybe, just for kicks, find a 20 combo and give it a spin! Cheers man, up the hammers!

You inspired (infected) me to get the Tweed Tone 20R amp, which is excellent, and a double-cut Harley Benton LP Junior is on the way. Also found a secondhand Nux Cerberus, which is pretty good, but the one thing I don't like is the distortion section (too dark). The drive section is good enough, but also slightly lacking in high end. Thanks for the good work, Shane!

I've bought gear after watching your reviews over any othe tube reviews Shane, keep it up mate! I've owned a Yamaha Pacifica 112 (Base model) since they were released, still have it, still plays so easy, gigged with it, its honestly never missed a beat! quality/construction/fretwork all A1! Only caveat are the stock pickups which are easily upgraded.

I have a Pacifica 311 and it's a great guitar. The pickups and electronics are trash but everything else is great. It came with Grover locking tuners, Graphtech Tusq nut, alder body and maple neck with rosewood fretboard. Flawless fretwork and flawless neck pocket. Pacificas are perfect for mod platforms.

Hey! Great reviews, thanks! One question about the Cerberus Multi Efx Pedal... You mentioned, that it's possible to insert part of the efx into the efx loop of an amp and put the other half of the pedal in front of the amp... But the disign (metal case + non insulated jacks) doesn't look like there is a built in ground lift between both stages of that device - in my opinion the best way to create a proper ground loop with tons of hum, especially, if you have your multieffect device and your amp a few meters apart, as in a common live situation... Am I right?? Cheers, Sascha

Glad you've been lucky. They're hit and miss and I have a feeling especially KZfaqr get better than average models. I own 2, had to return one more (sc550) , because it was total crap and friends have also some and all of those have issues to some extent that I would recommend add some money and go for classic vibes or Epiphone instead.

Martin Grabher-Meyer - Wow, that’s too bad. I’m sure with the “cheap” guitars, it’s gonna be hit and miss. Guess I got lucky and got a solid one. The only thing I dislike about it is the weight. Heavy as hell! Then again, you might play mine and say it’s crap too! I’m definitely no expert. I just really like playing it.
@martinlmguitarcorner
@martinlmguitarcorner 4 жыл бұрын
@@chriscrawford1958 You would notice immediately. I had to do a fret job over pretty much all frets. They've been like a mogul slope. The binding on the neck had scratches and even bits broken out of it, so it got sharp and uncomfortable to grab around with the thumb. The tuning keys get out of tune within a song. The pickups are so muddy, I have a woman tone without rolling the tone down on almost all amps. Only found one, where it sounds decent. The first SC-550 even had bits of the inlays missing and scratches in the finish under the clear coat and bubbles in the latter. On top of that, it had all the issues the second had as well. That wasn't a B-Stock. To be fair, sending it back was no problem with Thomann, but regarding the issues described on the second one, they even told me to expect such issues from such a cheap guitar. But that's certainly not what I'm seeing in the KZfaqrs hands. As mentioned I'm glad yours seems to be fine, and with a little work even my messy second SC-550 got to be a decent guitar. So I can see how they can be awesome guitars for the price, if you get a good one. If not, I'd rather suggest a beginner to not bet on it. I got mine to try working on guitars, so I was fine with that as long as the finish was somewhat decent.

Good report. You guys overseas, Australia and the UK are responsible for me finding the Harley Benton Guitars. Also the Orange amps after first seeing Laura Cox use them. Here, in the US, you see very little about these guitars. My first one was a SC-Custom and is beautiful and plays as well as any guitar I have. I just ordered one of their Fusion II guitars. You might want to look at this one next year. They have a lefty version too :). I like the NUX Cerberus pedal. I've got the Boss ME-25 that suffers from some of the issues you states, i.e. you must scroll through 60 or so built in effects. I like the NUX because you can "scroll" via foot switches, your presets. Very cool. Good stuff. I think I'll subscribe. Big thumbs up to Orianthi and Taj Farrant. And least I forget Karrie Webb one of the arguably finest female golfers of all time. All from Down Under.

Hi Shane, Was liking the bugera v5 amp recommendation though coming in at $550 aud its the same price as the artist cremtone/tweedtone. Seems like the artist amps are a better deal though it would be a overkill for my bedroom playing. I saw the joyo 5w and artist 5w amps but i find it lacking with just the one control. Which amp would you recommend within the price of 3-500aud new or used ( primarily play strat blues/jazz/clean).

I was playing my LP59cbs all afternoon yesterday and the pickups just sound great - it's a really versatile guitar for a LP. The only thing that would improve it would be a slimmer neck as I find after a few hours my wrist gets a bit sore with that one.

Agreed on the Fender Bassbreaker. It's the most versatile amp I've ever owned and the most versatile amp Fender has ever made. I bought the 15 FSR In Midnight Oil tolex that has a stock Celestion Greenback in it. It basically looks like the 30R which I prefer to the gray tweed and plain black grill cloth. The clean tone with the bright switch sounds a lot like my VOX AC15, without the bright switch it sounds like a Bassman and the various levels of gain from light breakup to full blown distortion sound amazing. The Reverb is also great, more of a modern hall Reverb than the classic spring but very natural sounding. Most players could just plug into this amp and get most of the tones they need without pedals. I originally bought this to use as a stereo rig with my AC15 which it definitely excels at but it's also become my main single amp that I play at home and will bring to jam sessions and rehearsals. If they made a higher power head I would buy it for Bass. I played my bass through it and I absolutely loved it.

Because Sonzera sounds very much like a Spanish word here in Peru which means shit, rubbish or bullocks lol Keep rocking, man!

Have you tested the Keeley D & M Drive? You can get it at Pedal Empire in Brisbane. It's like a King of Tone and Klon in one pedal. If you're familiar with That Pedal Show, you'll have seen and heard it.

I know it's been said before, but thanks again for including the "bad". Too many channels tap dance around this, and your unbiased feedback lends a lot of credibility to your platform. This channel is my favorite, and I'm embarrassed that I haven't subscribed before now.

Thank you for being honest about the PRS Sonzera. I have tried to like it, but it just sounds bad to me and I thought maybe I was crazy.

Shane I love your videos. Simple, honest and no frills. Praying that all ends well in ur country, especially with all the fires. Just a suggestion, though, I think as a musician n guitarist you could play a big role by uniting all other musicians like Keith Urban, Tommy Emmanuel, etc and organizing rock concerts all across Australian cities to collect funds for the fire fighting and helping injured fire fighters n animals. It will help to revive music concerts and also bring in my h needed funds in Australia.

I've been following your channel for a few years and everytime you described your relation with your Tokai's I was curious and kinda guessing "are they rly that good? the price seems to high for a knockoff"... So the funny fact is that last week I went to a store to verify a fender telecaster and finally upgrade from my first guitar to a badass one, after checking the fender wall I decided to give a try in a japanese custom shop tokai that they had in the store and omg I finally got you point! Conclusion of the story, went there hunting a fender and now I'm the owner of a japanese guitar that plays like heaven hahahaha

Shane, I know it's not necessarily your bag, but I'm an old school country fan/player at heart (everything from the Carter family to Waylon Jennings). I've heard that Australia has (I'm in Massachusetts the States) always had a healthy country music scene. Can you point me in the direction of who might be good? Old, or new. Cursory internet searches have brought me a lot of recent pop country, with not too interesting guitar/instrumentation.

Hi Shane, At the risk of incurring an avalanche of trolling, I’ll nominate the wireless unit for a Katana Air as a piece of dodgy design. Its plug is too short to fit into a PRS Silver Sky. Works fine on a Fender strat but why Boss couldn’t add an extra millimetre or two to the plug is one of those eternal mysteries....

I haven't tried that before. That sucks that it doesn't fit on a PRS :( Thanks for the heads up.

Just throw a pedal in front of it for drive tones if you want to keep the volume at a whisper.

I’ve had an eye on that Artist 20R, but a Blues Jr. isn’t even $100 more here in the U.S. You seem to dig it, and if it’s better at its thing, maybe I should pull the trigger.

Don't you think Harley benton or Artist guitars would send you a lot better guitar than they would send me as a buyer? I've wanted to try either one of their Les Paul models, but that's always held me back.

I find my Mk1 Katana doesn't see too much action - I much prefer the dynamics of the Blackstar TVP60 head I got about the same time. It rocked with a HB 2x12 cab, and now paired with a Marshall 4x12 cab, it really rocks. For all the extra's on the MK2 Katana's (which I think are a great addition BTW), doesn't make me want to go out and buy another one.

I had a pacifica and wanted to like it but the neck was too spindly. Narrow and too thin. The nut was way off, also the neck was gonna need a shim. Not worth it sent it back.
