1992 was the year I recognized NES support was starting to slip in favor of SNES, but they still had some amazing games! Here's a look at a lot.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest WAS Developed as a Final Fantasy though, a beginning Final Fantasy/RPG for the US and EU Market. In Japan, it was released as Final Fantasy USA: Mystic Quest , much like how our Mario 2 (a severely reworked Doki Doki, which we all know) was known as Mario USA In Japan. Oddly, Mystic Quest drops the Final Fantasy name ONLY in Europe, known as Mystic Quest Legend there. The games you're thinking of are Final Fantasy Legend, the Gameboy games, which were the beginning of the Saga series in Japan as Makai Toushi SaGa. Oddly the Mana series still kept the Final Fantasy name at first. Known as Final Fantasy Adventure in the US, and Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden in Japan.

We had just gotten Mega Man 3 a year before, a fantastic followup to Mega Man 2. It added the slide, some cool Rush transformations, and felt like the best one yet. Then Mega Man 4 comes out, and it adds the Buster Charge. Which fundamentally changed the game: now you have to hold the B button to charge your shot all the time, and the charge sound interferes with the music. They made the robot masters significantly harder. I felt like, for most of the robots in the older games, you could still beat them with enough practice even if you didn't have the right weapon. It felt like in Mega Man 4, you REALLY needed the right counter weapon to defeat each robot master. Which made me feel like I needed to play with a guide, which took some of the fun out of it. It wasn't a bad game, it just felt like, ok now Capcom is churning these games out & expects me to drop $50 once a year. And I lost interest in buying them, at least full price at release. It was the same problem we had shortly after with Street Fighter, where once a year they would do a small update to the game & expect you to buy the game full price all over again. World Warrior, Champion Edition, Hyper Fighting, Super, Super Turbo.

Dragon Quest III was an absolute monster game in Japan, where it caused so many truancies from school on release day that Enix adopted the policy of not releasing future DQ games on weekdays. I’m guessing it didn’t do as well in the States because the port didn’t happen until four years after its Japanese release.

Our video game journeys are nearly identical. Approximately the same age, NES aquired within a few months of one another. The NES in 1992 is fuzzy to me. I was around when it happened but bought my Genesis in the fall of 1991. Sonic 1 pack in, Castle of Illusion, trading 16 bit games with friends. Another friend just picked up a SNES for Christmas that year. Super Mario World, FZero, Pilotwings. Still had my NES, but it was the ugly Ex gf by 1992. I was playing both with Super Power and in the land of Nintendon't with 8 Meg Power and blast processing!

I love these videos; it helps me find some hidden gems that I wasn't aware of (& reminds me of games I loved - or hated) & gives me something to hunt down & play. One nit to pick, production-wise: I noticed that you've started not looking at the camera when talking; I don't know if you're reading a script or playing the game while you're talking about it, but it feels very...I dunno...disconnected? It's like you're not engaged with the audience. I'm not sure why you changed the way you present in the videos (&, quite honestly, it's your video to do with as you please), but it's just something I noticed that kind of takes away some of the personal touch that your videos usually have. Just my two shillings, though; I still enjoy the content!

Hey John. Got a couple questions for you. When you make your games. Do you make your own music? And if so. Do you use a program called famistudio? And the second question. You mentioned emulation. What kind of emulator do you use to play your NES games? I use one called mesen. But I like to know which one you use? Oh also I think games also thanks for mentioning the bright boy. It hardly has any smell. it's a lot better than brasso I tell you.

I probably got an NES around the same time, I know that I got a game boy the Christmas of 1989 and the year before or maybe the year before that we got an Atari 7800 for Christmas and then after that me and my brother pulled our money together and bought an NES. We bought it from the department store Kohl's back then they sold Nintendo's and the video games for them. In fact it was the only store we went to to buy Nintendo games. And then when the super Nintendo came out of course we went to Kohl's to buy one and they didn't have it. It's like they stop selling video games after the NES.

I ..my parents...bought Nightshade , Dragon Warrior 2, and Rc Pro am2 and still have them. I also paid $50 for a new top loader when nintendo stopped working well but I wisely kept it and replaced the pin connector ..I'm still trying to play dragon warrior 3 but my time is better spent playing with my kids

10:44 _"Don't even need to be a Simpsons fan to enjoy"_ Know what, Krusty's Fun House is similar to Contra Force in that it wasn't that originally. It's a port of the Amiga game Rat Trap, just reskinned for a Simpsons theme.
