If you’ve ever driven in TX for any real amount of time outside of the major metro areas you’d know that TX drivers are actually pretty good compared to the rest of the country, and our interstates are also some of the best. If we didn’t have high speed limits it would take forever to get anywhere, Texas is kinda big if you haven’t noticed.

We're gonna have to add Connecticut to the "worst" list, in its own place. Governor just signed to introduce a road tax for ALL trucks over 26,000 gross to pay 17.5 cpm, by 2023. Hurting not only the state by cutting down the supplies the state will be getting because of drivers refusing to go to Connecticut, but also killing off local carriers.

Its going to get to the point where California is going to have to make up their minds: Do we want goods? or not? Shippers should charge according to the " bitch factor".. If its a bitch to get it to you, You will be charged much more just for the hassle. The California special Tax of 20% just because of the hassle.

The only reason it has not been done yet is that California is the 6th biggest economy in the world and nobody wants to lose market share to other companies. Megas don't care because it really only pushes out the OO guys and the small and mid trucking companies. What will happen is that Electric trucks will take over in California and you will see transfer depots just over the border in Arizona and Nevada where normal trucks drop and pick up and only electric trucks come and go inside California.

I drove a tractor trailer for 17 months and I hated driving in Houston, Texas the most of anywhere I went. Not enough parking in Houston or Dallas. Ohio was one of the best states to drive, huge rest areas. I also enjoyed driving in Pennsylvania as the scenery is beautiful and always lots of parking available. Driving across Oklahoma was ok in my book and better than most.

I used to live in and drive trucks in California back in the 90s. Back in Texas now, recently got back into trucking and run in a non-governed truck running 75 MPH and can’t help but think how they’d likely lock my ass up in California for driving that fast! Love driving in Texas, loved it back in the 90s too. Recently took a load down to Miami and had no issue with parking. Lots of rest areas with plenty of parking plus they will let you shut down at the scales without any hassle. Parking down in Miami sucked though but it sucks in any city.

The issue with Oregon fuel is no tax paid at the pump, it’s all paid on IFTA filings. Which does mean Oregon fuel is rather expensive compared to a lot of states. Which is why they ask for IFTA numbers, it’s so they can audit fuel purchases. Which I think he would know that but I’m guessing the guy in this video is a fleet driver or something.

Right now I do three loads a week from Altoona to Sterling Heights MI and I ignore their no idle law. Reason being is I have to use a C Pat machine because apparently I have sleep apnea. However if I try to run it straight off the battery and alternator the truck tends to shut off before the allotted six hours per night I need to stay compliant. Only once did I get called on it and had a DOT personally knock on my truck. I was told to shut off my truck or get fined where I explained to him I must make sure the C PAT machine is always working or I'm not compliant for my job. That is a federal regulation that supersedes their state law and I invited them to go pull that up on their computer to double check as I pulled it up on my phone. After 10 minutes of him sitting in his car he told the person who called on me something I couldn't make out then left. Haven't had a problem since, but then again I stay at a different truck stop now.

Oregon is only 55 on I-84 between Portland and The Dales. The permit number required when you fuel is a stupid holdover. They don't participate in IFTA anymore. They charge a straight up mileage tax instead now. That's a little odd for a state full of tree huggers since IFTA penalized low mileage trucks and the mileage tax doesn't.

Texas? Good road conditions? Where have you been in Texas? Once another guy complained to me about the poor road conditions in Navajo land in New Mexico, saying they were some of the worst he's experienced (Highway 491). I later went on it, and in my experience it was about typical of Texas' awfully maintained roads.

Cali is more expensive for a couple reasons. In no particular order. 1. Because Alot of truckers will simply never enter the state w their truck, so capacity will always be tight there until that changes 2. Taxes, permits, licenses, building regulations etc etc are the most exclusive and expensive to comply with anywhere. 3. Combining first two with the fact it is in fact a beautiful land and always has been means that despite being so difficult, people wanna be there... so that means to some people is worth paying more for everything. That being said... it seems points 1 and 2 are outweigh point 3... as most realistic and intelligent humans expected to happen in due time.

I wouldn't put Florida as "bad" only because of Parking. Flordia was definitely better than Texas for me. I'd Texas as real bad. Texas is worse than California. Have you seen the maniacs drivers of Texas? Texas drivers are worse than 3rd world. Texas drivers intentionally cut off others including truckers. Houston is probably one of the worst place to drive in all over the world. Drivers going from far left to far right lane on a 4 lane highway :S

All the idiot drivers are moving in from other states. Case in point, absolute worst driving experience ever was driving through Detroit. When the auto industry crashed, everyone in Detroit came to Texas (Houston especially) to find work! After 2009, driving in Houston reminded me much of my experience in Detroit back in the 90s!

Boycott California. I got 1 fix it ticket just outside Baltimore. Got pulled into a scale at the entrance to a tunnel heading into Baltimore. One of the officers came out of his shack, told me to stay in my cab while he crawled under my. Didn’t even go under my trailer. Came out from under my truck in about 3 minutes and told me that I was missing a retaining bolt on my right side fuel tank strap. About 4 days prior I had a service done on that truck and did a visual personally. Everything was in place. When I was under my truck at that scale I saw fresh tool marks where the bolt was missing. The officer said he knew a mechanic close by and asked me if I wanted to call him. I told him to call. Then I called my boss on a pay phone conveniently located on the end of the shack and told him that what was going on was BS. My boss told me to get it taken care of to get on my way. A mechanic showed up and parked hidden out of sight on the far side of the shack. The officer came back out of his shack and disappeared out of sight, then immediately returned back inside, then reappeared with an $11.00 fix it ticket which I wrote a check for and dropped into a mail box also located conveniently there as well. The mechanic reinstalled the original bolt said it cost $50.00. I gave him my boss’s number, my boss gave the mechanic the number for Com Check which cleared. I was never compensated for that fix it ticket. Happened around August 1989. All other tickets came from California. One BS ticket from Maryland, lost track of the Revenue Enhancement tickets I’ve gotten from officers being pushed by Cooked Black Robes, some of whom lied straight to my face.

Depends on where you go in those states. Imo, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana and Michigan have some pretty terrible highways. My favorite states for interstate road conditions are Missouri, Tennessee and Georgia. Missouri I think has the smoothest highway I've driven on. Ofc, the highway directly around St. Louis is not great but once you get out a little it smooths out. Only wish they'd make them 3 lanes instead of only 2.

California is the worst state to be a trucker in. 3 out of 4 of the loads I attempted to drop off in California was attempted theft by multiple distribution places. They would always bang on my door claiming the load was short from what the bills mentioned. Once I tell them "how about I count the parcels myself", magically they find the products that were "missing". On top of that, no parking, rude people and no respect for truckers! Stay away!
