My personal favorite duo is Itadori and Todo, because I was sparring with this guy and he was kinda destroying me and after we were done he asked me about my taste in woman and now we've been best friends for nearly 10 years now. You never know what life will throw at you lol 😆

Like the Mádàrâ and Háshírámâ friendship....erm Violence Rivalry...ending in death...or what's Thought to be Death but actually a grand death transcending plan... NEVERMIND takes too long to classify beyond "Complex Friendly Rivalry + TeamUp power beneficial Friendships" or something... Yeah the Guy Kakashi, Shunsui Kyoraku, Being Naturally Complimentary to eachothers existences In That Field (usually) Combat... I guess we put the Gōjô Gètō gang up with them too then? hmm.... Theres a lot Im overlooking from... well EVERY OTHER STORY with Characters that are Conscious Lifeforms with Awareness of Others... Not Gonna put Winston Smith and Goldberg on that list though... since that was... nevermind... Not spoiling all the folks who dont Read anymore since its 2020s and blahblahTwitterBrainSyndromeEtc. or whatever.... See what I mean? : D (For one piece it SHOULD'VE Been Zoro and Sánjí... because which friendrival do you entrust to Murder you because your Eyebrows got wierd and android shenanigans so youre worried about protecting the ladies and food on your ship? Zoro... Because he'd Happily Murder that Twirlybrowed Freak for straight up Asking for it.... whilst ALSO Never Actually Connecting a strike with a blade with the powers of the King of Hell that Eats Souls touching it and can only be wielded by a King... NOW Im internally thinking about why its silly anyone tries to argue about Sánjí not being a King when he's knocked out a Yonko with Cooking Alone... and NO ONE Beats the Largest of Mothers' Tongue... unless she loses her memory... Then it only needs to be the Food she wanted without Quality issues still causing Destruction and changes to the Entire Land, which... I feel like you missed at least one honorable mention of Spike and Jett from Cowboy Bebop. The juxtaposition of their stories is truly fascinating. While Bebop is mostly about trying to catch the bounty of the week its also really intriguing to see how they came together. Spike being the former head hit man of the syndicate and Jet being a police officer being on two opposing sides but being so broken from being unable to move on from their pasts is comforting in a way that I wouldn't have predicted. Spike over Julia who was supposed to meet him and run away together sold him out in order to save both of their lives while Jett had his wife that left him. The way that Jett carries around that old school pocket watched that stopped to show that time stopped for him and the line where Spike says that he doesn't know if he is really alive since that fateful night. Then when the story does progress from just the bounty of the week you can see that Jett and Spike truly care for each other. Jett asking Spike if he was going there to die and Spike telling Jett that he was going there to see if he was actually alive. Jett understanding having to confront his past since he had already done so with his wife previously. You can see throughout the episode Spike just going through the entire organization and Jett juxtaposed on the ship knowing that his closest friend is on a suicide mission and how it will end up. It really is a story that kinda sticks with you. There is a reason that it is one of the greats even if it is a classic. On a side note the OST for Bebop fucking banger too. I know that has nothing to do with the friendship but the music fucking slaps and is probably one of my personal favorite OST's.

Aint going to lie. I was really hoping for Denji & Power to make top 3. Those two chaos gremlins are absolutely harlarious together. I have never before seen a pair of lunatics sharing the same brand of crazy so perfectly. And they really helped each other to grow as people. Denji gave up his wish to look after Power while she was suffering from PTSD, and Power gave her life to save Denji. These two were the ideal of friendship. I know that I'm overlooking Aki in all of this, but if we're limiting ourselves to just one-on-one friendships, then I have to advocate for Denji & Power -- The Devilish Duo.

You should consider doing best father son type relationships in media. You have a ton of options: Trucks/Future Gohan, Fushiguro/Gojo, Grandpa Gohan/Goku, Kaneki/Arima, Bam/Jinsung Ha, Starlord/Yondu, Guy/Lee, Jiraya/Naruto. You know the relationships where a guy isn't your dad, but he's your daddy. It's similar to that student master relationship, but a little closer I think. I think you could have a field day with that one

Shouldn't've said Harry Snape that's a bit too complicated... I really didn't like Naruto and Sasuke's friendship. Throughout Shippuden kinda felt like not only was Naruto trying to bring him back to the village, but he was also forcing him to be his friend. Like Sasuke kept trying to push him away and saying that he didn't like him anymore and Naruto was kind of being like "nope, I don't care, we're friends, you don't get to have any say in this, we have a bond and that's that, I know best."

Sasuke in valley of the end said naruto was like family to him and the only friends that could understand him because of that to pursue itachi he wanted to severe that bond but Naruto in shippuden says he won't let Sasuke break that connection

If they werent friends for 2 entire series, the equivalent of nearly 1400 chapters, it was NOT a "great" friendship. They really dont belong on this list with how many legitimately good friends there are. Like how are Naruto/Sasuke higher than Yuji/Todo?

Ban actually did try to kill Meliodas because he thought it would bring Elaine back (grossly oversimplified explanation). But, Meliodas fought him and made him realize that killing him wouldn't bring Elaine back. It's actually a big part of what makes them such a good friendship. Meliodas NEVER holds it against him but Ban takes forever to forgive himself. It even comes back in the opposite way after Meliodas is giving in to his demon side because now Ban fights him to try and knock some sense into him.

Personally, my favorite friendship is Natsu and Gray. Pretty much the whole rivals turned to friends and friends still rivals. They'd do pretty much anything for each other and I love the dynamic they have. This was still a VALID list!

Luffy's best friendship in the Straw Hats is Usopp, no question about it. Although it's moreso pre-timeskip it's still gotta be up there, second to Nami (really think about that one)

Another great one is Sunakawa and and Gouda from My Love Story. I know it's not the type of anime you usually talk about, but when I first saw the anime when it came out in 2015, it was so heartwarming. Sunakawa is attractive enough that tons of women are into him. That includers Rinko at first, however he decides to step aside and allow Gouda, his childhood friend, whose considerably less popular, to pursue Rinko instead, and the two became a couple. He's the ultimate wing man.

I think the biggest thing for me with meliodas and ban is that meliodas spent so much time suffering without many friends only looking for Elizabeth while everyone dies around him. Then he gets this incredible immortal friend who not only clicks perfectly with him, but can keep up and doesn't die.

Friendships from Gintama are incredible. In my opinion they like easily be in the list for example gintoki and kastura or tosshi and sougo, even gintoki and takashugi have great chemistry together.

Another thing about gon and killua is the nen needle kills brother put in his head and how destroyed kill was at the idea that if he didn’t change his perception of how to deal with battles he would never see his best friend again and he destroys one last insurance policy of his family risking a lot just so he could be there for gon because the idea of not being there scared him that much

I was just thinking about this video concept yesterday! I’d say the best friend in anime is early Luffy. (Maybe late Luffy too, not caught up) Right now, I’m having an issue where all my friends like/respect me too much. Nobody will help me become a better person, and they feel put down when I try to help them become better. Luffy is the kind of straight-up G who will sacrifice his friendship to help a friend. Kobe says it’s his dream to become a marine? Luffy doesn’t act supportive the way people do irl. He says you’re too much of a coward, and then helps Kobe become the kind of person he needs to be in order to reach that dream. Without that nudge, where would Kobe be now? Nami has an awful home/family life? Not Luffy’s business. He couldn’t fight her battle until she was ready to come around/ask for his help. Otherwise she wouldn’t be able to change/grow. Explaining via text blows, sorry for the rant

This is probably bait, but eh, I'll bite. I have to disagree with you there, at least in part. Gundam, at least from how I've always gathered, is about how conflict ruins lives and violence begets violence. But the one congruent amongst almost all gundam series is that the only thing that keeps people sane in the horrors of war is friendship and love. Amuro/Frau, Amuro and Quattro, Kamille and Fa(yes they fall in love later, but i mean in the confines of zeta), Judau and Beecha, Mika and Orga, and finally Suletta and Miorine(again yes they fall in love in the end but their relationship is initially based on how much they care about each other.) Hell, Mikas tragic end comes from the fact that he loses Orga and gives in to his inner monster, Lupus Rex is the shape that monster takes. So tldr I guess it *is* about the violence and tragedy of war. It's also equally about souls finding little moments of peace in that violence and relying upon each other.

@@isaiahmontanez3105 I think it’s more focused on connection than friendship. I honestly never got the vibe that these connections were really friendships all that much. The friendships aren’t hugely fleshed out, although the closest is Char and Amuro, as they actually seem to have more of a friendship relationship than Amuro and say Hayato. I hope that makes sense. But yeah you do have a point. And I was mainly referring to UC, the other series are way more focused on friendship like with Gundam SEED, IBO and Witch from Mercury.

I was really hoping to see Vash and Wolfwood from Trigun on here. While the Stampede remake hasn’t gone into their friendship much yet, their friendship in the OG anime and manga is one of the best I’ve ever seen. Either way I really liked your list, and absolutely no one is surprised that Gon and Killua are number 1. Even if you have bias they still deserve the number 1 spot.

Idk if they technically count as anime but I really love Rebecca and David’s dynamic in edgerunners it may be mainly fueled by one wants to sleep with the other but it’s heartwarming that Rebecca is both respectful of David’s relationship and always has his back the best example is near the ending when David is going crazy she is still there for him she could have left and survived that night but she didn’t

Great list, largely agree! But, to me, it's actually criminal to forget Miria & Isaac from Baccano!, at least as an honorable mention. I know that canonically they're referred to briefly as "lovers" once, but there's not even a hint of romance between them shown. Just as some of these characters are friends first and rivals second, they're most certainly friends first & lovers second (if at all). They're too precious & entertaining to not get a mention one way or another, imo. Kiruko & Maru from Tengoku Daimakyō may have deserved an honorable mention as well, but not a place in the top 10--due to less screen-time than the rest of the top 10 & spoiler-related reasons. Personally, I'd honorably mention Vash & Wolfwood as well, though "friends" may be somewhat of a stretch for them. Thought of Mugen & Jin as well, but they're definitely rivals 😂 Fun topic tho, thanks for the vid!

Did Yusuke and Kuwabara not have enough screen time to justify their friendship being here? You mentioned their friendship before the rankings but surely they would've qualified, yeah? That reaction from Yusuke when Toguro "kills" Kuwabara is some of the rawest shit I've seen in anime. That moment alone would put them in my top 10 list, but obviously this isn't my list. lol

Idk where but Goten and Trunks, but they’re an honorable mention imo, mainly since they’re practically always drawn together after the tournament introducing Babbidi. Although I don’t begrudge it, since Luffy has a bigger friend pool then most manga have characters, I think Naruto has a good pool to consider as well with the Konoha 13. With Haikyuu!! I also want to mention Asashi and Nishinoya, but I’m also in the camp of, “oh they definitely are closeted lovers.” Then also, another “cheating but I don’t care” is the Elric Brothers.

6:23 as a One Piece fan luffy and Zoro till the end my friend there relationship hasn’t changed at all from the jump I think they deserve to be on this list specially after the kuma arc were reading that old scene when he takes luffys pain so he doesn’t die might come back up when luffy needs to save him and I can’t wait 💯 there putting a lot of tho into kuma so who knows but they have been tho a lot together even when Sanji left and Nami and Robbin he still remained

If I was going to pick a strawhat to make this list it would be Zoro and Luffy. It becomes more apparent in Wano and Egghead with their friendship and the respect they have for each other. But I understand why not put any of them on.

I'm so glad that someone understands Bleach. Everyone says the plot is terrible because there's no goal. There is, it's just not a finite goal. And they all have the same goal. When one of them gets in trouble, all of the rest of them go help. Also, Natsu and Happy. Fairytail is all based on the power of friendship and you forget Natsu and Happy.

dude, not to be that guy but Gyro Zeppeli is not named after the food gyro, he is named after a gyroscope/gyrating (y'know the spinney things) so his name is pronounced Jairo. Great placement of Gyro and Johnny's friendship though.

My personal favorite is Natsu and Happy. Dispirite having 0 strength happy has never hesitated in supporting natsu n understands him perfectly, natsu could say "hay imma run the pockets of this immortal deity coz he looled at me funny. Wanna come" happy would just say "Ya why not" 🤣🤣. I would have put it around the 10 to 6.

One thing I don’t think you really touched on with gon and killua was that killua was raised to be a monster and gon was raised to be a good kind person but slowly we see gon curiosity and desire for strength turn him into a monster where killua only has the level of humanity he does at the end because he became gons friend. Without gon he never grows from a monster to a person

This list should've had 15 to 20 spots for ranking all the other friendships like Natsu and Happy, Roy Mustang and Maes Hughes, Josuke and Okuyasu, Shikamaru and Choji, Itachi and Shisui, Itachi and Kisame, Boruto and Mitsuki, and of course, Kakashi and Guy.

Yusuke Urameshi and Kazuma Kuwabara. Yu Yu Hakusho. A very good friendship. Especially whenever Yusuke dies. Which happens more than once.

I definitely understand not including Luffy, and i honestly might not as well, but the only option to match with Luffy is Zoro. He was the first crewmate, the first person to dedicate themselves to Luffy entirely. And while Zoro hasnt given up his dream, he now has a different motivation to achieve it (mainly) being to help Luffy attain his goal. Sanji and Luffy obviously have a great relationship as well but its missing the little extra punch (and im not discrediting Sanji, hes literally my favorite character in the series). Finally Sabo doesnt fit the criteria, blood or not they are brothers, just like Luffy and Ace, so maybe if youre talking about dedicated siblings, but not friends
