I bought the LoRa fibreglass 5.8dbi. It didn't come with a cable though. What kind of cable do I need to get to connect it to my Nebra indoor miner?

Thanks your video answered most of my questions. The 3dbi works like an umbrella but does anyone know the estimated hight that the signal pushes upwards for 3db and 5.8dbi?

As a community of helium miners, I think we have a lot to learn about the way antennas work. There is no "umbrella" affect where radio waves travel up and then fall back down. At 915MHz the ionosphere won't even reflect them back to Earth. Vertical antennas are omnidirectional. Radio waves travel in straight lines from the antenna in all directions. It's more likely that, since LoRaWAN is designed for relatively short range (compared to other communications protocols) and very low power, too much gain overloads the front end on the receivers, distorting the data. I would guess 3-5dBi to be the sweet spot for populated areas, with higher gain being more useful in rural areas.

The thicker cable is something like LMR400 and the other one may be LMR240. The 400 has substantially less dBi loss. Thanks for the video!

Hi, when you say the 6dbi and the 3 dbi sends the signal UP and OUT, how far UP (in metres) does the signal go before it goes OUT. Thanks.

No. Just depower the unit and connect it. I suggest using LMR400 for cabling. Enjoy.

Hey Jimmy. Thx for your videos, super helpful! I have a question and hoping you can help! Have you heard of anyone having issues with the rak v2 miner not getting any witnesses? I upgraded to 4 dbi antenna (one you recommended in your video) and still haven't received any witnesses after running for 4 weeks. I'm in an excellent area and should be getting 10+ witnesses according to the map so not sure what the issue is. Thx in advance!

I have a Nebra and the first 3dbi antenna in the vid. I saw on Amazon someone commented that that particular antenna isn't compatible w/Nebra devices. Since I've only had my hotspot for a few days, I can't really tell if it does or doesn't work, but when I had it hooked up initially, the miner had no activity on the helium network. When I switched back to the stock antenna, I got some activity going .. Not sure what to do.

Does anyone know if you have a 8DBI antenna with the .5 dbi signal strength loss here and there due to connectors and wire length - does that make your antenna act as a say 6 abi antenna. The point being, can you count on signal strength loss to work in your favor when picking an antenna?

Hello, thank you on great video. Still have the dilemma about antenna type. Facts: 6km away from the city 80m elevation higher than the city with clear line of sight and mountain behind me. Should I buy omni or directional? Which gain? In case of omni, I am afraid that I will skip the city because of elevation difference and wandering if maybe to put it under some small vertical angle? On the short amazon 8 dbi vs the longer Rak one do they project the same radius or is the longer one going to have more coverage? I used the scanner and I have someone near me running a 8 and 5.8 and the 8 is pulling in considerably more wise % in earned then alot of low 1.2 dbi setups hardly doing anything !. Im going 8 thinking about mounting it mine in my attic

Great informational video. I'm just getting into this of course I can't seem to find a helium minor at this point so if you have any connections please let me know. But my question to you is I live in a very far out remote area my town is 3,000 people not a big town anywhere close. So I was thinking of getting the 8dbi. But I live in a two-story house house going to put the antenna on the outside of the window on my second floor and run a extension cable from the antenna downstairs to the unit. Is that a problem how much of an antenna do I need or should I use or not use. Would I lose a lot the longer the cable?

Jimmy, I have a question on a video where you used smart switch to trasfer data from an s10+ to a s20 ultra....but, I can't get an answer to a question. My question is ..... I just bought a new s20 ultra....when you did your original transfer did you leave your sd card in the original phone or take it out 1st and then install it in the new phone after the transfer? Would an 8 dbi connect from the higher slopes of a mountain about 7 ish miles down to the visible town? Or is that way put of the ballpark on range?

With the 8dbi antenna you state the signal is sent out horizontally.... So does the signal point at 360 degs (Circular) of the antenna ? eg would it send out a signal with a radius of 6mls in all directions (North, South, East and West) ?

The distance between my home & my office is about 2 aerial miles. I know they say the sweet spot is 300-500meters. And obviously 2 miles is much larger than this. Will adding an antenna like these allow me to get my 2 hotspots to communicate? My house is high up on top a hill & I think what he mentions about the 8dBi reaching horizontally would work. I am in a town with only like 8 other hotspots BUT they are like 5-10 miles from me.

Which gain setting in the helium app should I use with an Uputronics Filtered Preamp with TX Bypass (3dB insertion loss) direct n plugged to my 4 dBi omni antenna with a 1,5m low loss coax h2007 (appx. 0,27 dB loss) to the tranceiver? I have no other chance to connect the sensecap m1 outdoor. I get up to 50 km now beacons with 6dBi. Thx in advance.
