IMPORTANT: I want to mention very clear that this device does NOT alter your water parameters. So if you have chlorine and other harmful things in your tap water, you should NOT put the water in the way I did in the video. Instead, put the water in a tub and treat as you always do, and then pump it back in the aquarium with the same hose when it is safe to use. I don’t have chlorine and I can use my tap water for all „normal“ aquarium applications (I live in Germany).

Yes, very convenient. We've had these devices in laboratories for many, many years. We use them on laboratory taps to pull a vacuum from inside a vacuum (!) flask to help filter solutions in a Buchner funnel. What worries me is the use of raw tap water straight into the aquarium. If you don't have a water conditioning cartridge fitted in-line, surely you are introducing chlorine and heavy metals into the water? I looked into this practice years ago and quickly discontinued it due to the high concentration of chloramine accumulating in the water. This, and the copper from the water pipes, proved to be toxic to nitrifying bacteria as well as my dwarf gouramis. I'm raising this point just in case someone out there tries this method and suffers losses as a result.

Thanks for your interesting comment! I have done water changes with tap water for years now, without conditioner etc. and never faced any problems, even bred several types of fish and shrimps. However, I live in Germany, and chlorine is only used in very rare occasions to purify the tap water. I also know my water pipes are new and not made out of copper to my knowledge, and I also tested it once, there was no trace of it. But of course, you should only use the tap water for the water change if it doesn’t harm the animals!!

What evidence do you have copper pipes release anything into water passing through? Your copper pipes must be different to everyone else’s.
@passion4aqua
@passion4aqua 5 ай бұрын
From my knowledge, copper pipes can leak if you have certain water parameters that „attack“ the copper chemically. Normally, a protective layer builds up relatively fast and no copper gets into the water. But normally, in areas with those water parameters, copper is not used for pipes. But I don’t know much about it, only that copper in the tap water is usually not a problem for aquariums, and many people keep shrimps for example, so it would get noticed pretty fast 👍

The onlu problem i have had with these is very cloudy water. The pressure it takes from the faucet to the tank causes a backflow into the water heater which breaks up what im assuming is limestone sediment (if you have high calcium in your water).
@passion4aqua
@passion4aqua 5 ай бұрын
Someone else also mentioned that the back pressure could be a problem. I haven’t noticed something like that yet, and my water should have quite some calcium in it… but I‘m not an expert on this matter (plumbing) at all 😂

I hate to be a downer , but a similar device (Python /US) was what caused me to leave the hobby! It sounded (and was) a perfect solution to changing aquarium water from my 100gal tank, it saved a lot of time; untill I noticed a leak from my faucet (Delta). I changed the faucet and in a week of using the device another leak! It eventually (an after 400 dollars in plumbing costs) proved to be that the devices back pressure causes faucets that use cartridges (not washers) to leak and malfunction. Since I was not about to carry 5gal pails of water ,I sold the tank .

Hey, that’s absolutely no problem, negative experiences are useful and part of the topic :) I am not a native speaker so I am not familiar with every single technical term you used, but I understand the problem. I honestly have never thought about this issue. I know that many people use a system like this for many years and never face problems like this, but of course every house and plumbing is very different… Personally, I always avoid having pressure on the system when it is completely closed. That’s why I explained all the steps that detailed, so there is never a moment where the water is on and all the „exits“ of the adapter are closed. And I never use the system with the full water pressure, maybe 30% tap flow at maximum. Did the plumber tell you whether this is a general problem or was this the cause in combination with another issue? Thanks for commenting your experience!
@s.k.3891
@s.k.3891 6 ай бұрын
The plumber was unfamiliar with the Python device, but I did some searching and found that "modern" faucets are not designed to withstand back pressure . I guess they were not designed by aquarists!

Okay, I have not noticed something similar yet, and I hopefully won’t. But sad that you left the hobby because of this, why don’t you try out a nano tank where a 50% water change means 5-10 liters? There is something coming in that direction as well, maybe it’s an option for you… :)

For me I just top up the water in my aquarium when it evaporates. The substrate and the plants do the rest of the work in taking out the nitrates.
@passion4aqua
@passion4aqua 6 ай бұрын
Thats Great! It really depends on the tank, but from my experience, this doesn’t work well for Aquascapes when there is heavy fertilization, like in my case. But in many low tech setups, you don’t need water changes to achieve success :) Do you fertilize and have lots of fast growing plants? Or is it a „classical“ low tech setup?

Bought it 2 years ago gor 48L tank. Very disapointed with this JBL product. 1. plastic quality is so poor, it will crack so fast 2. you have to use ALOT of fresh water in order to even start vacuming your tank, and preasure is so low. Sometimes even simple mulm cannot be soaked :(
@passion4aqua
@passion4aqua 6 ай бұрын
Hi, I‘m sorry to hear that! I never had quality problems with this adapter so far, but maybe you had the older version. They changed some things some time ago… Now considering the vacuuming, I am absolutely with you. I haven’t even tried it yet because I know that it can’t work with such a small height difference and weak flow. I do this the Classic way with a bucket. That’s why I chose not to talk about the Aqua In-Out System and only about the adapter, because I only use it for water changes and everything else should better be done a different way. I hope you still had some amazing results with your tank, and the good think is that on smaller tanks, the water changes can be done the classical way quite easily :) Thanks for commenting!

@@passion4aqua Yes, maybe I had a bad luck and they probably improved it in the mean time. To be honest, yes, flow is weak but it works. And idea overall is great. No buckets, no splitting water... just hoses and this module. I think the point is: if your tank is closer to the sink you will get stronger flow. Maybe its about diameter of hoses as well... You should try it anyway :)
@passion4aqua
@passion4aqua 6 ай бұрын
I might try it out someday! But the height difference is essential, you can see the difference of flow when you do a water change with a bucket and an equal diameter hose… for water changes, this tool is just great in my opinion :)

Two things: 1. Water coming directly from the tap is very cold during the winter period, changing 50 % will cause shock for your fish. 2. Putting water directly from the tap without conditioning - is also a risk. Also, I would argue about 50% water change every week - again it's a shock for fish due to water parameters change. Your tanks might change water parameters over time (e.g soil lowers ph, or certain stones increase the ph) and when you add fresh water it's already not the same as it was when you initially topped the tank.
@passion4aqua
@passion4aqua 6 ай бұрын
Hello, thanks for commenting! 1. I dont know where you live, but I also have warm water during the winter period, that’s why I said that the temperature should be tested upfront, so warm and cold water can be mixed in the right ratio. I don’t put in cold water of course 😂 2. I also mentioned this under another comment, where I live, the water is pretty much safe to use straight from the tap, I have done this for years and even bred and raised juvenile fish and shrimp like this, so I would say there are no problems. In general, I know many people here (in Germany) that just use tap water for their aquariums, also in combination with big water changes (Aquascaping). Of course, if you live in a country with „bad“ tap water, you should treat the water accordingly before you put it in the tank. Or just do smaller water changes. About the 50% water changes, I understand your argument, but I would also argue that too small water changes result in a build up of certain parameters over time, especially when there is a strong fertilization like in my tanks. Of course, in a blackwater with lots of tannins and low ph or other setups with extreme water Parameters, big water changes might not be the solution. But I believe that more water changes are beneficial for the tank in general, and my tanks that were the most stable in the past were always the ones with more water changes.

Hi, I didn’t put a link on purpose, because I don’t want people to just buy it because I showed it! The most important thing about a water change adapter is that it fits the sink. And JBL is a German brand (I live in Germany), so it is made for the typical sinks in mid Europe… I don’t think that it would fit the typical Asian And American sinks, which is why I wanted to show the concept, but not the product! The brand is not that important, but the connection to the sink is essential! If you are sure that it fits your sink, the one that I use is this one: www.amazon.de/JBL-Wasserwechselset-Aquarien-Anschluss-Wasserhahn/dp/B08WJSW83X?th=1&psc=1
