The beach erosion has nothing to do with global warming. The Sholes Club is located on the very corner of the South East Island that part of the Island has always seen fluctuations in sand movement.

@@TravelwithNJSteveandSue also where you were on the island isn't really the ocean- it's the mouth of the Cape Fear River. There used to be a hotel there but it washed away in the late 80s/early 90s. I actually remember the hotel, and when the island wasn't as populated as it is now- no market, no pizza place, no nothing- you had what amounted to a General Store at the marina and that was it. Also East Beach was not developed at all- no country club, no houses. "The Point", is where the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean actually meet- very cool place! Also, sneaking into Old Baldy at night and climbing to the top in the dark was a fun teenage past time (back when the light house was open 24 hours a day!)

Beautiful place guys and you picked the best time of the year. Maritime forests get awful buggy in the summer! Deb and I took a trip to Bulls Island near Isle of Palms, SC. It's an uninhabited barrier Island accessible by boat only. We went in August wearing shorts and short sleeves (big mistake). We were swatting bugs and mosquitoes the whole walk. I actually saw a cloud of mosquitoes following behind Deb's wake. The only relief was when we got to the ocean on the other side of the island. It's beautiful and Bald Head reminds me of it.

He's right. Its a great island. Fantastic getaway. The food market has been updated. Use to have a more woody look. But still nice. Hope yall get a chance to visit.

well bhi is actually more of a west-east direction. the harbor is just past the end of west bald head wynd. once you leave the harbor you head east (to the area where your house was).

Looks great. I think that lighthouse was used as a filming location for the movie “weekend at bernies”. Also where was the best place for coffee on the island?

Hey HW! You are in right....that movie was filmed at the old baldy lighthouse and at other spots around the island. The best coffee was at our rental....we could not find a coffee shop. They need one! Come over and open one! Thanks for watching!!!
