How is it possible that LADY KUNG FU/HAPKIDO and LADY WHIRLWIND were both released in 1972 when Jennifer Lawrence (who was born in 1990) stated that _she_ was the first female action movie star?

Elliot, hi from Oregon. I love this video, because I learned stuff. I've not bought any Eureka discs, maybe because I'm in the US. The Cabinet of Caligari on 4K is one I need to get as 4K is region free. It's great to see you posting regularly. Thanks.

Glad that Eureka! is your top for 2022, especially as they've released Dr Caligari in 4K. (I've now got 3 Eureka editions of Caligari, the 4K, the Blu-Ray, and the DVD they released in 2000.) But, mainly cos I'm in Australia, [impact] and Umbrella are probably my favourite boutiques. Umbrella have started putting out some really good Blu-Rays of films with some great extras. Yes, mainly Australian films but many others, as well. And [impact], though fairly new, have put out some really great releases. Of course, they're cheaper here in Aus, which definitely helps, but their range of many quirky and interesting films is very handy.

For me personally, I think Arrow and Eureka was about equal last year, but I did notice a lot of movies coming from Eureka that maybe didn't interest me, but I could see others getting really excited for. Criterion had a lot of solid releases, also in the UK portion which is relevant for me as I don't have a region free player, but Criterion is good at having an excellent baseline, but rarely goes the extra mile like some other labiles do for certain releases. One table I haven't paid much attention before is Indicator, but when I visited London this year and wen't shopping at Fopp I realized how many movies they have that cater to my taste, but if we are talking about releases from last year I can't really say anything about that as it was November when I bought my first bunch and a lot were probably older releases.

Indicator is a great label as well indeed. There’s a load of releases from them that I couldn’t afford last year so hopefully I’ll catch up this year. Probably not though if good stuff keeps coming out! Cheers for the comment

I'm fairly new to boutique blu ray collecting but I agree eureka smashed it in 2022. Thank you for your videos in 2022 also. I've found many great films through your recommendations.

For me, Second Sight is the label that stands out to me from 2022. Whilst they didn’t have the most releases, they put a huge amount of care and attention into the ones they did release. Indicator also did some great work, and they continue release titles to a high, consistent quality. Like yourself, Eureka is the label that got me into collecting boutique titles with their MoC line, and last year was a big year for them too, but I just wish they would release more Hollywood titles. They seem to have moved very heavily towards martial arts films, which although I like, I wish they’d release more of a variety. Looking forward to 2023, I’m very excited to see what Radiance have in store, and I’m guessing that by this time next year, they’ll be up there with the likes of Second Sight, Eureka and Indicator.

Wholeheartedly agree with you! Irish collector here and I only properly started collecting last August. There's something about Eureka that always cacthes my attention, it appears to me anyway that they cover so many ground with regard to excellent quality in packaging, the visual/audio quality, special features, pricing, range of different movies from international cinema which always introduces me to something new. Add to that free international shipping and they just have the most complete package for me.

Great video as always. I share your love for The Masters of Cinema line. My first ones were Life Boat and Touch of Evil. For me Indicator is my favorite label. I still buy all thier releases. High quality. I'm looking forward to them starting with 4k releases soon. Second Sight, Eureka, Arrow are close behind and have put out some great releases the past year. The american labels are doing great too. I love Blue Undergrounds 4k titles, they look amazing. I hope they do a 4k release of Dario Argento's Inferno. Kino Lorber, Vinegar Syndrome and Shout Factory has put out some stellar realeses aswell.

For me personally, Second Sight have started to take the crown. They might not have the extensive library of the others but they pick such unique films and often trump the other labels in terms of packaging and quality. I mean, I'm a long time collector of Arrow and Eureka too and will always love them, but recently SS have been excelling 🤘 I'd also like to give a shout out to Mubi and some of their foreign releases, I checked out Drive My Car and Decision to Leave thanks to them 🙌🏻

Man so hard to pick the best label ... Second Sight, Imprint, Indicator, 88 Films etc have all been killing it with their amazing releases. I'm not sure if I can say Eureka is the best but I can't argue that they aren't also putting out some fantastic and amazing releases. Like you Elliot I've been collecting Eureka for quite some time and have really enjoyed the evolution from what I'm they originally were (which was always still amazing boutique Blu ray pancakes) to what they are now which is really just that extra step up in quality and presentation of their packages overall but that probably goes for 88 Films and some others as well. I'm a little but behind as I've yet to get Son of the White Mare, 4k Caligari and the releases after that but I hope to pick them up soon. But I do agree that their 4k Police Story package is fantastic as I do actually have that one.

I think Kino Lorber is my favorite. They tend to pick the most titles I am interested in and I've never been disappointed with anything I've bought from them. Criterion has had some issues for me like poor encodes or transfers. It sounds like they don't even do many of these in-house. Kino seems like they do mostly mainstream films and less of the obscure stuff. Shout Factory I just don't care for the stuff they do, haven't been happy with really any of their transfers or encodes ever. Arrow has a few things I've liked but again lots of obscure stuff I just don't care to buy.

Indicator and BFI are my favourites - no contest. Criterion is fine and dandy, but I'm priced out of their prohibitively expensive collections (and I'm Region B only). I've got a decent number of Eureka releases, but Indicator and BFI provide outstanding value for money, and cater more to my taste.

They’ve announced Andrzej Zulawski’s Polish trilogy (not actually a trilogy) for this year and it’s already my favourite release. Since first seeing Possession, Zulawski has become my favourite director and his Polish films, The Third Part of the Night, The Devil and On the Silver Globe are some of his greatest films and are finaallyyy getting released after decades of rights issues in glorious 4K restorations. I hope you’ll check them out when it’s released, they will blow your mind. He’s like Kubrick on steroids IMO.

I’ve gotta go Arrow but Eureeka is starting to feel like Arrow which is a good thing. I just love how Arrow does the limited edition first and always has reversible original artwork. If they have a slip, it’s thick and high quality. Then the transfers themselves are almost always top notch. That Jackie Chan release feels like something from Arrow straight down to the artwork.

Love Eureka! Arrow is pretty great with the packaging and transfers but almost every release gets a replacement program and that makes me not preorder anything from them anymore. Criterion had a few solid bangers like Lost Highway but Im not the biggest fan of their encoding. Hello, my dad owns one of the last independent video rental stores in Minneapolis, MN. Would you be interested in purchasing a large lot of films to grow your collection? Video Universe’s collection consists of an estimated 45,000 DVDs and 20,000 VHS tapes. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to browse the history of home video from the 1980s onward, all under one roof. Many of the films available for purchase are out of print, and you cannot find them on streaming platforms. Please let me know if you're interested.

@ElliotCoen Their physical releases were once the most beautiful thing on my shelf but now that's reserved for Arrow and Eureka. Plus, they're just not putting out as much quality world cinema. Most of the titles just seem to be a blu ray re-release or a popular title that would fit better elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, Criterion introduced me to world cinema and for that I am forever grateful. There's just so many Naruse films that need eyes on them but instead we get Power of the Dog. Meanwhile, I'm begging Kino to slow down.
