What is the best type of pedal to use for first time cyclists? In this video I show you that clip-less pedals can be easy to use if you start out with the right kind. www.crankbrothers.com/categor...

Talking about pedals for 22 minutes requires talent

awesome! there are heaps of vids out there talking about clipless pedals, but this guy actually goes to the trouble of showing exactly how they work--how they clip & unclip--by attaching a cleated shoe with one hand and holding a loose pedal in the other. This way, he allows you to actually view the pedal and shoe engage and more importantly he shows a nice view of the opposing step. (For one, he uses egg beaters which are so minimalist, that there is nothing blocking the view.) This is really important for me, because to feel safe in these--ie, that i can unclip quickly and efficiently when needed--it helps to understand the mechanics of unclipping. Very nicely done. I haven't found another vid that does this.

LH and RH pedals; the threads are different. They have a LH tread and a RH thread. Getting them mixed up can be costly.

the black plastic piece is a shim because some mtb tread is too deep and it will build it up. the washer that is supposed to go on top of the cleat helps keep the cleat in place. the threads are different on the pedal because the crank arms have different threads.

Left clip has a groove the other one doesn't on the swivel part of the pedal

It's a little crazy to think there is no left or right pedal, of course, there is left pedal has groove in the arm of the pedal

Would you please tell me how to find type of shoes for these pedals? I recently bought a bike with this kind of pedals but I don’t know how to search for shoes. Thank you for video.

What the KZfaqr fails to mention is that if your shoes do not have the SPD two bolt pattern an adapter must be bought for cycling shoes with only three holes. The cleat/adapter adds significant weight & stack to the shoes, making them all but impossible to walk in. Additionally the Eggbeaters are no easier to use than standard road pedals, I found the tiny MTB/SPD cleat is hard to pinpoint for entry, & once in they provide entirely too much float which negates the locked in, connected feeling from clipping in. Lastly is the weight, these pedals are extremely heavy & offset much of the lightweight theme of my build. Conclusion: Buy lightweight road pedals to begin with, the cleats & platform are much larger making it easier to clip in, remain stable, & put down power. Buy Eggbeaters if you plan on doing any cross or gravel riding, other than that SAVE YOUR MONEY.

Sure but on a road shoe those cleats will dig into everything and wear very fast. I have the old crank brothers system where they provide a shroud to protect the cleat/floor, but sadly they no longer make them. NVM they still do.

Would have been a nice video, if you had prepared what you wanted to say. No reason it has to be 20 some minutes with you looking for left right. And as poxcr says. Of course it matters! Treads are different on left and right arm. Weird if it's not marked on there as you can't tell but direction.

I’m sorry, but I had to stop watching at the point when you couldn’t tell the l from r pedals, & said that it didn’t matter. Maybe you should leave the longer vids to the more experienced. Not hating, just frustrated.

Long winded, repetitive and lacking in expert knowledge. Having you recommend pedals is ridiculous.

Not very professionally produced. It took six minutes to answer my question as to basic operation, but should have taken two. Can't imagine wasting twenty two minutes.
