I am super passionate about coffee and educating people on all aspects of this amazing drink. I love bringing the stories back from the other side of the world about how they grow and process the coffee differently in each farm, in each region, in each country. I also love helping baristas around the world make better coffee for themselves, whether they're at home, professional, competitors and or even just venturing out into the wide world of coffee.
About Ryd!
In a world where coffee has become elitist and over-the-top hipster, Ryd is on a mission to make specialty coffee inviting and undiscriminating; creating a community of coffee lovers who want to share their thoughts, ask questions and appreciate that we are all on a journey uncovering the delights of home-brewed coffee.

I think the Giotto Cronometro V is not “five”, it’s ‘V’ for VIBRATION pump. Kind of like the Giotto Evoluzione R is ROTARY pump.

It's a very well made video, that will put a ground base for a new prosumer and what to expect for certain price range. It's crazy how at this budget, you have so many very well made machines. Picking up what it's best at this price, it's so difficult from rocket to lelit to the decent machine. A real "best of" on that range it's hard to define, because every users have different needs. And that decent machine it's something amazing on paper for the bucks.

60 years and E61 heat exchangers are still the standard... There's something wrong with being able to say that.. Recently took a look at 2 group machine and only 5 of 36 were dual or multi boiler and 6 had PID control, There were more with pre-infusion but it was mostly line and not electronic. I hope a lot of these features become standard in the next 60 years to help raise the baseline and lower cost.

@Coffee Coach | Ryd Jeavons - I have a $3000-4000 usd budget for a grinder and espresso machine. In regards to the Decent DE1PRO, wouldnt the reliability of getting a consistent shot a huge value for a newbie and learning to "experiment" whenever I could be a huge value to getting this machine? I do understand the learning curve is steep but to have myself just "teach my wife" to push a selection for her own espressos would be valuable too.

San Remo Cube looks wonderful. I was thinking about buying it, but interesting fact: it is impossible to tune water pressure. And as i remember, they are set to 12 bars from manufacturer. For the machine of that high cost, it is not cool at all

Very informative and good range of choices reviewed! The Decent is cool, but is anyone else bothered by that janky USB cable jerry-rigged to the bolt-on tablet? Software/control is very impressive, but it seems like it could stand a more refined industrial design at that price point.
@Rydecoffeecoach
@Rydecoffeecoach 4 ай бұрын
Yeh the cable is a little bit plonked on but I think it's done that way so you can always replace the tablet. Other than that, it's an amazing machine and the way it's built is so good so you can literally replace any part yourself and all parts are available on this website. The way it's built internally is very clean and precise and people really appreciate that. There's a new model coming out which looks just gorgeous industrial design. It's called the Bengle 1. Stay tuned for that release!

Having watched this and Ryd’s 1-3k vid, I’m still no further on in my search to upgrade from Sage/Breville Oracle. I like strong, yet smooth Americano w/thick crema as my 5-cup daily staple. But, I’m partial to a decent flat white too and catering to any guest requirement. My Oracle was great in 2015 but I’ve come to understand that the grinder is pure rubbish and the coffee out of it is 6.5/10. I’m happy to move to an external grinder… but, coming from a feature-packed Oracle… I want the PID, the pre-infusion, the dual boiler for instant milk steam and no cooling/heating waits. In 2023, I accept that super-automatics and bean-to-cup just don’t deliver the best of coffee but we can use screens and displays to better control the machine. I’m not into using a screwdriver to attempt to adjust an over-pressure valve, for example. I think the videos would be more helpful if based on what your ideal coffee output looks like rather than listing the features and the minutiae of difference between a bunch of machines. I want to arrive in the kitchen in the morning, turn on my machine, happy to boil my kettle to pre-heat the cup/provide the 50% water for the Americano (have yet to find a machine that gets the water hot enough)… but that consistently delivers barista-grade coffee to the standard of a good coffee shop. I want barista-grade coffee at home and am willing to buy an expensive machine… I’m not price sensitive to a fairly-priced quality machine (say, BMW) but I don’t need something that does the very same thing but is made expensive by titanium chassis or other mad feature (i.e Ferrari). If you catch my drift. One final thing, I do value quietness in a machine… I prefer the idea of rotary pumps. The Oracle is noisy, the grinder ridiculously so. Any advice welcomed. Cheers!

hey Greg! Sorry its taken me so long to reply to this. I appreciate your thoughts and I'd like to help! I'll probably start a new series focused on this sort of idea (as opposed to just $$$) but most people have a preconceived idea about how much they want to spend so I usually start there and then break it down into whats important. However, I do think everyone has the same goal: getting the best tasting coffee out of their machine. The factors that affect this are: Budget, convenience & time, Ease of use, reliability and then probably other things like versatility, size, style etc. So it's really hard to do a video that covers everything all in one. I haven't done much with noise levels as that (for me) is a low concern but I understand. I think something like a profitec pro and a Timore Sculptor might be the best fit for you based on what you said. But, I'd love to understand more how I can create a series that helps people go from Brevilles or Pod machines into prosumer models that get the best results. It's hard!

I was in a similar boat and have the Oracle Touch at home currently. After deep dives into the seemingly endless 'home barista' rabbit hole I ended up going with the Mazzer Super Jolly V Pro grinder($1750 US) and the ECM Synchronika with flow control espresso machine ($3149 US open box). Seems that the really high quality stuff has very little information as far as video reviews and so on, so it really takes quite a bit of research. Hope this helps.

From what I've read on forums, the ACS Evo Leva 2 gives a better result in the cup than the Slayer, the Slayer is also unreliable with very poor support from local technicians... If I would buy only one machine that would be the DE1 you can have perpetual warranty for 150 USD a year !!!!

Micra will beat everything here, beside flow control ability. 5 mins heat up, auto-backflush, auto on/off, rotary pump with plumping capability, powerful steam, smaller and lighter. It is the best for people who don't really need or use flow control.

@Rydecoffeecoach
@Rydecoffeecoach 3 ай бұрын
If it was an extremely slow cafe (less than 30 customers a day, you could get away with it, but it's not ideal. I definitely would consider a two group machine first. When you get lots of orders at the same time, waiting for the extraction to finish before you can load another two coffees really slows things down.

A $6000 machine that can't be plumbed in? Was there not enough room for a rotary pump? That disadvantage alone will scratch this one for me. Secondly, the matter of simultaneously steaming and pulling a shot is presented as a positive by so many reviewers, but surely that feature is going to be most wanted in a commercial operation. What's the hurry at home really, a gain of maybe 7-12 seconds? The fewer parts the better.
