We took the TYM T474 Tractor and the Baumalight FMP260 Flail Mower to the maximum, using them to clear trails and walking paths through our new property. We are living the dream by building our dream. Please watch the video, but I will let you know, I am very impressed with this rig! This Flail Mower is much more like a light-duty forestry mulcher. #baumalight
We tested the Baumalight FMP260 Flail mower as a Forestry Mulcher! Watch this video to see how Flail mower / Forestry Mulcher worked.

Congrats on the land. Buying an adjacent property is a dream of mine. I still remember how excited I was when I bought my current land. It's so fun to walk around, discovering what's out there. I'm still pretty excited, to be honest. Trails a a perfect way to make an otherwise untouched piece of land accessible.

Incredibly useful video to see what is possible. I thought only a bush hog could do that. The flail is better because it mulches. Thank you very much… glad to see you getting your wishes…

I like that you are piling the brush for the wildlife. By opening up the trails and removing brush, you'll be giving trees a chance to thrive by not having to compete for water.

Hey Chief when you said you were broke my thought was “oh sure”, but when you stated the purchase was debt free I now understand! I wish I had more land for sure. At 7 acres I am too small to be a “farm” here. I lose some tax breaks, but at least I keep some semblance of sanity. The river and creek help, plus good neighbors. Running out of flat ground for my tractors however. 😢. Congratulations. I envy your estate/park.

Yes sir! If a person owes on everything in their possession, they are broke too! LOL! They have just been conditioned to not recognize it. 7 acres is a good piece of land to work with. I think we have enough land now, to keep us in projects until death. 😁 The spring is a big plus as it is drinkable.

They say 25hp for the smallest HP; however, I am not sure a 25hp subcompact could pick it up and work with it safely. It weighs almost 1000lbs.

Hi Tony, It looks great. How many acres did you get? I have 2.5 here at my place. But 80% is at about a 25 degree grade so not much space to due all the thing that I would like, but I can still be happy here with what I have. Plus on all sides of my property are 20 to 30 acres that are owned by my great neighbors. Most have lived here their entire lives, And the house that I bought was built in 1971 by the owners that I bought it from. So I am the second owner. Ron USCG RET

That poor sumac never saw it coming.... Lands what I prefer to invest in as well. (Think it's called winged sumac, hard to tell from the video. the yellow stuff is probably golden rod. My bees are working it pretty hard at the moment.) That flail mower is a beast... Definitely need to start saving my pennies up for one. It's time to start planting the food forest in the forest.

Real nice Tony, I like your set up. I came across this when I was looking for a grapple. I was going to designate a small tractor to just a grapple for clearing logging roads. Now I'm thinking the mower and grapple are perfect. Can't do that with a skid steer. What is the total cost of this complete set up and roughly what is the weight? thanks so much for your work

I don't talk about pricing. The weight is 1000 lbs for the mower. The tractor, loader, and loaded tires are about 5k pounds

Would you recommend matching the Flail Mower width to the tractor width or go as wide as the tractor can handle power-wise?
@TonysTractorAdventure

In a flail mower, I would go as wide as the PTO horsepower would allow.

How about those roots under the ground that spring up later? Next would be a way to dig up those roots so there is a better chance this area will remain mostly clear. We have privet and memosa trees here, a little kudzu to add to the mix. I figure hit with a mulcher, then use a heavy duty subsoiler, followed with a root grapple or land rake, then a burn pile using the loader. Go over it with a bush hog or flail mower every few months and follow up with roundup on any survivors. It might take two or more years, but at least our place probably would be useful for gardening or pasture land. That would be if I had money enough to get all this. In my situation,, I would hire a forest mulcher to come in, then follow up with a bush hog that costs less, and then use roundup and bush hog again. My old tractor does not have a loader, so I would pull things with a specdial chain I have, and lift by hand to make a burn pile. That would be the low cost solution.

That thing really mowed it down plus mulched it up, besides. I just have one question, do they make one that would run off your hydraulics on the front of the tractor? I’m 76?years old. I think my neck would get tired driving backwards all the time. Thanks. Later

Front mucher are made for Skid Steers, but a tractor doesn't have the hydraulic flow or cooling required to run a mulcher on the front. It would burn out the pump fast.
@Bodhranarama

Tony, looks like it's doing a good job, but get the local fabricator to fit a belly plate to your tractor, you'll be able to drive front first through the material fearlessly & It'll speed things up a lot not doing all that shuttling. Or not! Your gear, your rules man!

We bought 67 acres just north of Piedmont Alabama.....It's an old cattle farm that has grown up with privet. I think i saw you run this on a TYM 25 and it did OK but not as good as on the 47, how well do you think a RK37 (TYM-3515) would work.....? Wish they made a 48" wide mower. Congrats on the new property. We paid cash as well.

The RK37 is the equivalent of a TYM T394. It is the same size frame tractor as the T474. I think it would do great. That Yanmar engine is a powerhouse with good torque.

Great machine!!!! Have the spring water tested!!! Why do the trails, new property, come with speed bumps already built in..... Some one was off roading with motorcycles..... Any clear hills for kids to sleigh ride if it snow enough to do so!!!! Need to plant a crop for the deer, food plot.... Do you have a wild hog problem, maybe near the springs if it is swampy for a Waller??? Please post signs for no trespassing / hunting as people see an open in the tree line and it becomes a free open door to hunt, walk, etc. Do not mean necessary for neighbors but strangers or all!!!!
