ONION RINGS
INGREDIENTS:
1 large onion (slice into 1/4 inch pieces)
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cornstarch
1 tsp. paprika powder
salt and pepper to taste
3/4 cup cold sparkling water (or cold water)
1 cup panko bread crumbs or as much as needed

I just calculated how much flour and oil I'll have left over after making chicken-fried steak (and, later, thick white gravy), so I'm going to add cornstarch and seasonings to the leftover flour, use panko for coating, and fry up some onion rings to go with the steaks and gravy, along with a loaded baked potato casserole. The gravy is key to all three elements, so I'm gonna make lots of it!

You never want to pour oil down the sink, it will clog your drain. I usually wait for the oil to cool down, pour it in a jar, pop the lid on, and throw it in the trash. I usually save spaghetti sauce jars so that later when I cook with large amounts of oil, I have them to pour the oil into.
