Just got some custom True SVH skates. My biggest - not only - issue is ankle position (inner ankle far forward) and quite 'sharp'. Skates are perfect - after swapping out the genetix insoles for my high arch curex. They are perfect now. Not nearly as high duty as you, so looking forward to them lasting. I do appreciate that the Trues are very much molded to my ankles, high arch, and wide forefoot.

I just got a pair of FT6 Pro Total Custom + skates for the holidays and they are hands down the best skates I've ever worn and I'm very happy with the options, build, and experience with them so far. CCM really does give you a lot of options to adjust and customize the skate to your liking and while it might not be literally custom made like a True SVH skate, it is close and has so many more options.

I was very nervous about this video coming out because I just got my SVH skates and based on the Instagram teasers I thought these would blow them out of the water. After watching the video though, I don’t feel as bad about my decision as I worried I would. I personally don’t think CCM’s construction method would have worked with the bone spur that really led me down the custom skate path after my Nexuses really broke down, which is a very individual thing. My biggest issue with my SVHs is getting them onto my feet is the most painful experience I’ve ever had with hockey equipment. I have only skated on them 14 times so there’s a chance they still need to break in further but I feel pain the next day putting on normal shoes because of the pressure put on my feet getting the skates on. That being said, when my feet have been in the skates, I’ve never felt more comfortable. I’m definitely worried about how they hold up but the combo of the extra carbon for the “shot blockers” as well as your newest pair of goalie skates holding up pretty well does give me slightly more confidence. Really impressed by these skates through the review though, glad CCM is really getting their act together for custom skates now. Loved all the detail put into this review, keep being the best gear reviewer on the platform Matt!!!!

Thanks for the kind words and watching! Did you ensure when you baked your SVH you didn't touch the top 3 eyelets and you used the plastic wrap method?

@@HockeyReviews yup, had them rebaked too and still have a lot of issues getting my feet in. We chatted about it a bit on Instagram but none of the fixes worked out for me unfortunately, again hoping they just need to break in some

Bladetech is supposed to flex into the holder, maybe give you the feeling you're looking for.

I tried some True Cat9s, defective holder warped blades, and I hear story after story about premature breakdown. I Truely don't think Imma eff around with them again.

Oh man I have as much if not more of a volume fitting problem than you. I had true skates and they were very comfortable and I babied them for 4+ years but they eventually broke down. I really want to try CCM custom skates but there are soooooo many horror stories of them arriving and not fitting. Would you say that CCM has stepped it up and done better with their custom fit skates and customer service or would you suggest to just go back to true? Currently skating on my backup skates which are OG re-release of CCM tacks from 2014 which were a deep retail boot but since then nothing has fit 😢

I don't know what happened with the negative experiences I have heard about... but I know with CCM and the Total Custom Plus now you can specify to have extended facing on the eyelets to help with volume issues. Based on my experiences with True and these, I have a hard time recommending the True, but again I don't have crazy shaped feet.

What type of skate would you recommend if you couldn't go custom but was looking for comfort on the foot for long skating sessions, due to having arthritis in your feet? Would it be worth it to get top of the line or maybe just go midrange and put in superfeet?

Superfeet are refundable, so if they don't work you can get your money back. I feel like that would be the best solution before trying to buy new skates?

Great review as always. I wish my foot worked in CCM skates, I’m one of the few who have issues with forefoot height where the interchangeable tongue piece digs in to the top of my foot. I’m not sure if customs would address this part of the foot, specifically the height to clear that attachment.

I have to say that was one of my complaints with the retail pairs of CCM skates I tried on with the swappable tongues, but I don't notice it in these at all. So either they adjusted the retail ones to work better or it was done specifically on these to fit my foot better.

I had Bauer 2S Pro customs, very comfortable apart from pain on the side of my big toes where they rubbed against the joint between the toecap and the shell. I thought they were great, but had issues with my left foot failing to find an edge, and it took me ages to learn drills such as powerpulls. Recently I bought True TF9s and stuck my Bauer speed plates in them. They are astonishing, similar comfort to the customs, but my edgework has improved significantly and I no longer have issues with my left foot. I think the Bauer customs were far too loose in the heels. Side by side with the TF9s, the Bauers look like boats as the ankle area is so wide. I have wide forefeet and narrow ankles. I reckon the customs are just stock skates adapted with extra foams in the heel and a bit of pressure forming. They didn’t support my feet properly. I won’t buy Bauer again. I haven’t tried CCM customs, but I’m not risking £1,400 pounds on them.

I just got scanned for a pair of hockey skates. How long do they usually hurt for before they start to feel good? They seem to fit very well but when I’m on the ice the outside and inside of my foot is so painful for that I have to stop. I got about 2-3 hours on them so far and no improvement

Did you get scanned for customs or just for stock? The skates probably don't fit you if they are so painful you have to stop. The scans are a starting point for size but shouldn't be the only thing used for fitting. I would try thinner or no socks and see if the pain goes away before returning them. Your pain issues are usually from the skates not being wide enough

Just for stock I’m new to hockey so went with the stock ones. And I got the EE size (Bauer elite). If I go any Bigge the skate would be way too long. Unfortunately they heat molded them so I can’t return them. You think some different insoles could help? Thanks for the quick response! They felt great even I tried them on like they did but feel too narrow. I will also try a thinner sock

Superfeet can help by pulling the toes back and keep your foot from collapsing. So they can either pull the wide part of your foot into the wider part of your skate or just slim out your foot a bit. They have a 30 day guarantee so if they don't work you can just return them. Depending where you bought the skate, this would be considered a fit issue and they should be able to return them regardless of baking since they fit you in the wrong size.

So...how is this custom pair different from custom skates that ccm scan in hockey shops? You said you heard stories of custom skates not being truly custom, and then how is this one different and better?

These are the same as a pair that would get made if you got scanned in a shop. CCM started offering the Total Custom Plus option that allows you to make some very specific changes on them like extended eyelet facing to give more depth. I am not sure what went wrong with the pairs from the experiences I heard, all I can say that this pair feels amazing for me are more comfortable than the other custom skates I have worn in the past.

Just learned yesterday Feb 2024, the retail version is manufactured in Vietnam and the customs in Canada. Didn't try one on, but was told the difference can be felt. Also a $500 difference from what I purchased. Jet speed FT6.

@@HockeyReviewsreally?? Even more comfortable than the True’s, eh? The wrap on the True’s looks pretty locked in! Also, aren’t True’s made to contour your arch instep as well? I don’t think the CCM customs do that, but I don’t know anything. 😂

My skating coach mentioned that watching my skating has her thinking my skates might not be quite the right fit, so now I'm looking at potentially upgrading my skates. I hate the idea of restarting the process after the annoyances of the past, but it'll be interesting to see how the new skate fit technology helps out. I'll second the Bauer Speedplates too. My old plain Bauer insoles didn't work for me, and the Superfeet popping my feet up slightly was uncomfortable too. But the Speedplates were great.

After you described all the weird problems you have with the shape of your feet, maybe it would be easier to shave bones off your feet than to customize skates to your feet and still not fit 😂
