I work with my hands everyday (electrician), and trying to pinky count is nearly impossible being that there is like 0 sensitivity in my fingers... practicing the push off and thumb count as alternatives 😊 Your tutorials are excellent btw. Thanks

Hello Alex! The first time i entered into a magic shop, it was in Paris, close to the Pompidou Art center. The guy in front of me respond to me by doing one of the most simple card trick ever. When I told him I am fascinated by card in magic, he post himself fromt of me, and ask me if this is what I wanted to know, and he started to turn over and over again the top card. It was the seven of heart, and boom, after a couple of turn, the seven change by the king of diamond. Since this time, I think I fall in love with the double lift move! Thank you Alex for your video!

I think the Push off Double Lift is by far the best and hardest doublelift
@tannerschmidt7211
@tannerschmidt7211 5 жыл бұрын
Have you tried learning the Stuart Gordon double? I am now downplaying the push off it’s very nacky and hard to do but so is the Stuart Gordon. I like the fact that it takes the card away from the deck. Xavier does the push off double into the Stuart Gordon and it looks fantastic. On a side note thank you for the awesome video Alex!
@calebim-th2iq
@calebim-th2iq 4 жыл бұрын
I also think it is best, but not hardest. The stupid snap double that 52kards teaches is bad and 100% the hardest.
@springbloom5940
@springbloom5940 4 жыл бұрын
@@calebim-th2iq Strike is by far the hardest. Not necessarily the hardest to do technically, but definitely the hardest to reliably get away with. You typically have a choice with it - risky, or obvious. Unfortunately, with only half a thumb, a strike and a riffle are my only two good options. I can riffle count up to 4 pretty quickly and reliably, but it still looks weird to lift a card from the back. But, done correctly, a strike looks the best, because its a very natural looking way to take a card.

@@tannerschmidt7211 My favorite thing about all art forms : what's 'easy' for one is a challenge for another. I love the Stuart Gordon double, Its my go to, and i'm good at it. But ask me to be able to do a push off double.... not a chance.

Great stuff, great channel - none of these were my double lift, and there's something unique about mine that none of yours, or anyone's I've seen do. I pull the card off the deck from the other axis. So rather than turning from on the East to West axis, I turn from the South to North axis. At the end of the video Alex says it must look natural - and this is so important, flashy, over-rehearsed appearing movements give the game away. If you give a deck of cards to anyone and ask them to turn over the top card, they nearly ALWAYS turn from South to North. After tidying up the deck, your hands are naturally positioned to peel the card off South/North. Try it. I am thinking of setting up a conjuring channel so maybe that'll be my first video.

I do a top change more often than a double lift. Most of the time when I do a double it's a center double or a forcep double lift I learned from one of Alex Elmsleys books. But I just do a pinky count and a normal turnover when I do a DL. And any time I turn over a single card I do it the exact same way. Consistency is key

I do the double lift a bit weird I guess because I practice with a really used deck because of remote location to any stores haha I literally count as I touch the edge of the deck with my first finger, I don't pull the cards up or anything but I've gotten so used to touching the edge of the deck with index finger that I can feel how think what I'm about to lift up is haha .. probably weird but its just how I adapted to bad cards hahaha love the video I'm working on the pinky count and making it super natural at angles :) ❤ can't wait for the lzy decks to get here haha then I won't kill my good decks practicing ❤

Because one big thing that separates humans from monkeys is the humans ability to use their thumbs! Why in the world would one use their index finger trying to feel for apparently one card in the ege of the deck when you have a thumb that can push off that one card off from the top of the deck without any effort...

For the most natural look, I love the strike double. When performing, a lot of mental horsepower is spent by not giving a tell that you're doing something sneaky. With the strike double, you don't have to focus on ignoring what you're doing with a get-ready or holding the break without flashing. At the same time, there's an advantage of the pinky count for when you want to turn over more than two cards, but this is possibly useful in fewer situations and have less ROI because of the disadvantages.
@tannerschmidt7211
@tannerschmidt7211 5 жыл бұрын
Disadvantage? The pinky count doesn’t have one. You don’t have to put focus onto doing that sleight... you are talking to the spectator and getting a break. Also there is no natural look for turning a card over.. go have 20 people turn a card over and most of them will do it differently. It’s how comfortable you feel and look while doing it
