Having declared my dissatisfaction with this sharpener last night kzfaq.infoUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ I thought about the problem some more. It occurred to me that I might be undoing each attempt at achieving a sharp edge by the repeated attempts. So, I tried to clean up the unsatisfactory result by honing with only positions 3 and 4.Miracle!! A really nicely sharpened chef's knife, more than enough to handle my needs. Admittedly, it did not reach professionally sharpened razor-fineness, but it is now significantly sharper than it was. A bout of breaking down carrots convinced me. So, major apologies to the manufacturer, Amazon, and all happy and potential owners! Follow the directions: don't buy it if you have ceramic blades; and don't overwork your knife blade.

Another great way to polish washers without removing too much material is using a strop. Just stropping the washers in a circular motion..leaves a beautiful finish!

The Delica has been my primary edc for the better part of 20 years. I started with a saber ground Delica, moving to a FFG with brown scales, one with an Emerson Opener, and for the last couple years the K390 FFG. I’ve own plenty of other knives including some fairly expensive folders. But the Delica keeps making it back into my pocket.

Very nice job, Kyle. Talking about really freshening up a knife, you did! I just purchased a Kershaw 1776OLSW with the 20CV blade. My neighbor had one that I sharpened for him. I was so impressed with it I had to get one. It took me a little while to figure out how to sharpen it. I used light pressure on a 1200 grit diamond stone & then went to a 4000 grit Shapton ceramic. Since I invested in the Shapton stones (500, 1000, 4000), I'm finally cutting paper like you do, not leaving any fibers sticking up. Thanks for teaching me that trick. I'm an old man now & enjoy watching your videos & seeing the talent God has given you! You have taught me so much! Thank you. Love your truck too.

What a splendid piece! 🤤🤤🤤🤤 I once bought a generic version of this knife about 15 years ago, from a store where everything was £1, but I misplaced it while moving house, and never saw it again 🥺🥺🥺🥺 However, as for it being ''The BEST EDC Knife'', I have to respectfully disagree... At the same time as I had this, I also had a Victorinox Climber (which is in my other hand as I type this 😍😍😍😍🤤🤤🤤🤤) and I would suggest that the Climber may be the best EDC knife: And, not merely as a biased personal preference, but, because it has so many additional tools, over this knife's single blade... Before I had the Climber, I had (I *think* it is called a Tinker) which is the same as the Climber, but it lacks the parcel hook at the back, and the scissors at the front... I had had *that* knife, maybe 10-15 years, and carried it daily, before losing it one day on a bus (I know that that's where I dropped it, because I'd used it to clean under my nails while on the bus, and, when I got to my studio, it was no longer in my pocket 💔💔💔💔😫😫😫😫 But, rather than ordering another 'Tinker'(?) I had read about the Climber, and thought that having a pair of scissors in my pocket would come in handy, so I ordered myself a Climber... Now, it *did* take a while for the Climber, with its extra width, to 'feel familiar' in my hand, because I'd carried the 'Tinker'(?) for so long, but, almost immediately, I found myself using the scissors for things, so I definitely found it to be more functional and useful than the 'Tinker'(?), and since buying it, I very rarely have to use any other 'thing', as it's always been sufficient for any task I've encountered 🙏🙏🙏🙏 A couple of unorthodox uses I've found for it, is, I tend to drink a particular brand of energy drink, as the taurine content acts as a liver and gallbladder supplement, but for some reason, every so often, I'll receive a box of them where, lifting the ring-pull won't actually open the can completely, only 'pop the seal'... And I've found that by using the bottle opener to press down on that tab, with the notch of the tool against the lip of the can, and then running it around the can's edge, with the notch on the lip of the can as a guide, the tip of the bottle-opener, is in the perfect position to thus press down, and open the can's tab completely 👍👍👍👍 Additionally, when the corkscrew is lifted, there's a hole between the metal liner, and the plastic scale, which is perfect for holding a one inch dress-making pin, and that is another thing which I find myself using a lot... If I was to ever break or lose this one, I wouldn't replace it with anything other than another Climber, and thus, I would submit the Climber for consideration as the Best EDC knife because; I immediately noticed it being *more useful* than its 'Tinker'(?) predecessor, it is almost always sufficient for any daily task, and, because I wouldn't replace it with anything other than another Climber 👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏 But of course, to each his or her own preferences and needs, and, 'your milage may vary'... 🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍 [Edit to add] Another reason why I would consider the Climber to be a superior knife to my Delica-Clone, is two-fold: Before I lost it, I still found myself almost exclusively using my Climber for tasks, and, when I lost it, even though it would only have cost me £1 to replace, I simply never used it enough to even consider it worth replacing... 🙈🙈🙈🙈 When I dropped my 'Tinker'(?) on the bus, that was a proper ''oh Damn!!!'' moment, and with a near-hysterical need to *Immediately* replace it with another (albeit an 'upgraded version' with the parcel hook and scissors) as soon as humanly possible. But my Delica-Clone, while it was of course a shame to lose something, there was absolutely zero urgency to replace it. And, even now, while on the one hand I do occasionally find myself wondering if I should order myself another, I almost immediately talk myself out of it, with the simple ''but you'd never actually *use it* ...'' ... 🙈🙈🙈🙈

Do you have a video of sharpening a karambit or hawksbill style blade? Also, not sure if it’s just luck. But I have been trying to sharpen with water stones on and off for a year or so. And finally have gotten my best edge ever on a bench made 940 after watching some of your videos. I had more trouble with the smaller folding knives than with the larger Japanese style knives for some reason. Thank you for the informative and easy to follow videos.

If you need a saltwater knife, I recommend Spyderco H1 series, serrated not standard. Neither rusted, but the standard blade got dull way to easy. It seemed like I'd cut 3 pieces of rope and it would be dull, never had that problem with the serrated blade.
@kyle_noseworthy
@kyle_noseworthy Жыл бұрын
The H1 is sweet, although I would go for the straight edge. Rope is BRUTAL on knife edges, so serrated is the better choice if you're cutting a lot of rope. I don't have that task at hand often

Add some mineral oil to the compound and create a thick-ish paste and wipe it on, you don't need much. Or heat the strop up and smear it around it'll embed slightly into the strop. Sometimes if my strop is getting a little lumpy, I will heat a breakaway utility blade up and do some stropping passes over it and it'll clear those lumps up easy.
