They should try to re-invent themselves as a soda fountain cafe shop where they could sell the iconic egg creme as the hook and still be able to sell candies and newspapers ect. This would be more inline with the store instead of being like a deli.

Sadly, everytime I walk by now there is nothing but the hat sellers right next to it. Where the sign used to be is nothing but a black wall. St.Marks Place is not what it used to be and with Gem Spa gone, it's pretty much on its last limb. My Dad used to buy me all the Marvel trading cards from Gem Spa when I was a little kid, including Garbage Pail kids. They even had a good selection of magazines in there. So many memories. So sad.

Egg creme & cookie: Make egg creme. Toast plain sesame seeds and crush. (10 seeds) Take left over cake shavings and add into the bottom ( only small piece of cake per cup. The size of a silver dollar depth of a deck of playing cards. A bite piece.) Crush sesame seed to fine powder. Mix everything until smooth. So tasty! And thicc

I'm from Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Back in the 1970's, we use to get our vanilla or chocolate egg cream at a Jewish, dinner. And buy our groceries at a Puerto Rican, bodega. I find it quite strange than a person from India, or Indian, decent would have a bodega.

Milk Shake??? Look I grew up in B’klyn drinking Egg Creams at various “candy stores” and news stands. Milkshakes don’t have seltzer in them. The seltzer and Fox’s U-bet syrup make the drink. Try to find Fox’s U-bet outside of the New York metropolitan area. Ain’t happening. And it’s also about holding the spoon at the proper angle in the glass as you bounce the seltzer off of the back of the spoon into the glass as you stir it.
