People who hate on pilots for not flying the way they think they should, hating on pilots for flying with gyro stabilization, hating on pilots for using foam, etc - these people are gatekeeping and are cancerous to the growth of model aviation. Every person who treats people poorly like that thinks they're better than everyone else because and that's why they're a real pilot and you're not. We've got no issues calling out that kind of sordid behavior - fewer people like that means more people will stick around and enjoy flying.

Gyros are so useful. Not a whole lot of people use them like we do (simulating a flight computer), but a lot of people use them the way you do. Including us. Anyone who shames you for flying with a gyro is an arse and isn't worth listening to or being around.

@@TwoBrosRC I thought what you said at the end about dealing with grumpy sods at the field was spot on. Also this addresses that when a gyro is used right it doesn't take away skill it adds to what a plane can do. Classic case in point is the F-22 demo and the Su-35S demo at Paris in 2013.

Last week I discovered how to protect this model from accelerated stalls, and improve it's low speed approach and landing characteristics. You'll laugh. I took three vortex generator clips from my Super Timber and put one on the nose, and one on each wingtip about where the pitot tube is on each wing. She went from being scary to docile.

Sad when people have to hate on others for flying with a gyro. Had a hater at my local field tell me I could really only be a real RC pilot if I flew without a gyro. I asked him if he was going to buy me a new plane if I wrecked it?? He shut up and moved on to talking about how there was "too much foam flying today", shut him up when I asked where his plane was. (He didn't have one). I suspect he could not fly and just wanted to make others mad...misery loves company after all. Great Video John. Think I might pickup the servos and plane.

Using a Gyro isnt a bad thing and I hate that theres an entire group of people who do so. Its like TCS or traction control on a car. It may not be necessary or needed on certain vehicles. But Id rather have it than not. All tools in the toolbox have a use, none are a bad tool or are considered useless. Using whats at hand is considered working smarter not harder. Enjoy the hobby, heres one thing that I do that may irk a few. I dont fly Spektrum (at the moment) due to the price. I use FlySkys FSi6 radio and a 6 or 10 channel reciever. A radio that comes in at only 50-65 bucks and has carried me through the hobby. Just because everyone flies differently, doesnt make it bad. Fly how you want and whats fun to you. Thanks for the video and sharing such interesting information. Since I am not bilingual I need to understand some things: -To make the taileron do you have to change the elevator servos? or just assign a different channel for each elevator servo? -Regarding the improvements to the landing gear, can you tell me what they consist of? I understand that something has to be folded... -I also see that your F16 almost always goes in "harrier", do you do that with the controls? Forgive the language inconveniences. Kind regards, Alfonso
@TwoBrosRC
@TwoBrosRC 3 ай бұрын
The differential stabilators (e.g. "tailerons") aren't dependent upon the servos, it's a mix set up by plugging both servos into different channels. The gear are aluminum struts. The high alpha passes you're referring to are done by holding the nose up with throttle.

@TwoBrosRC
@TwoBrosRC 3 ай бұрын
So to clarify, you're against SAFE - a tool you won't use, but a tool other people find useful to fly planes that they own. Could you explain why you actually care if it's a crutch or not? In our view, the hobby needs less gatekeeping and more positivity. Encourage people to fly, regardless of whether they need a SAFE-like system to fly. Don't be that guy who makes people want to stop flying.

I have one. This plane has two flaws. The wing is too small giving little lift (meaning higher airspeeds for everything especially landings), and a weak BEC. I crashed because of a Freewing BEC failure. If you are going to buy one, buy the ARF version and put a quality ESC/BEC in there, with a capacitor in the receiver. I since repaired mine and I'm flying it with a BEC bypass cable, and a separate receiver battery pack and an a4 gyro. Overall a good plane with some tweaks and upgrades. My biggest issue was FREEWING and MOTIONRC not manning up and taking responsibility for the inferior BEC.

Weight is a factor when performing stunts like what you saw here. Going as light as possible (stock wheels) is ideal, but FW should still be able to make lightweight wheels that don't sound horrible. The flaperons operate in conjunction with the stabilators to roll the jet.

@TwoBrosRC
@TwoBrosRC 3 ай бұрын
The foam hatch needs to be sanded down a bit, then you use a sharp hobby knife to cut a straight line where the FMS intake lip meets the existing lip that a FW fan would fit into - that way the FMS fan sits solidly in the duct and won't bulge the hatch. You'll also need to cut a little foam away to fit the fan into the jet at all - you'll know what we're talking about when you attempt to put the fan in, but it's easy to do. This is the fan we're using: www.fmshobby.com/products/edf-system-70mm-12-blade-6s-power-system-with-3060-kv1900-motor-pro?ref=2brosrc

No changes offhand that we can think of. If you want yours to perform like ours, make sure you're using the same stabilator linkage setup on the same servos. Anything else may be too slow to get the same level of performance. Edit: CG is crucial too, but expect to have a hard time flying it sans gyro. AS3X with 100 to 120 Priority and throttle-based gains will make it very maneuverable but also artificially stable. Otherwise it can be real hell to fly.

@TwobrosRC Would be possible to get your gyro setup using Reflex V3 + ELRS or Futaba Rx instead of Spektrum SAFE/AS3X Rx?
@TwoBrosRC
@TwoBrosRC 3 ай бұрын
Even if you were to send over a transmitter and all the equipment we'd need, Reflex isn't capable of this type of stabilization. That is one of many reasons we stick with Spektrum and the AS3X gyro system - it has fully customizable tail/wing types that the gyro understands and works with and can be persuaded to operate like a full scale flight computer. It's not as inexpensive as other options, but you're definitely getting a lot of versatility.

@@TwoBrosRCThank You very much. One last question, Spektrum Tx is a must or is possible to use Radiomaster TX16S?
@TwoBrosRC
@TwoBrosRC 3 ай бұрын
We'd suggest going Spektrum. The RM radios should be OK, but they're far more difficult to learn and require hacky workarounds to get Spektrum functionality. Plus there's also the fact that they're only cheap because they're a Chinese company that didn't have to pay the R&D costs associated with creating a radio protocol, and because they don't support a network of US-based employees or US-based hobby shops like Horizon does. So while they're more inexpensive than Spektrum radios, it's for all the wrong reasons in our viewpoint, and we're happy to spend more to support an American company.

We get that it isn't for everyone, but that's the beauty of KZfaq - there's plenty of channels out there. Where we disagree with you is that using a radio announcer voice isn't being authentic - that's conjecture. Our content speaks for itself. If someone thinks we're inauthentic because of the inflection being used, that's OK - but we don't agree at all.

@@TwoBrosRC Assuming most people will replace their gear because of hard landings at some point because of unstable low speed flying and high landing speed, coupled with a new ESC/BEC when the Freewing one burns out after 10 flights, it's a $450 airplane.

@@TwoBrosRC The steering servos and arm is extremely delicate. Expect multiple replacing of these. If they are bent and you try to fix the gear, expect high power drain from the gear, potentially leading to brown outs or BEC failure like in my first jet. It's a good plane, as long as it stays undamaged in the slightest. As an owner of two of these V3's, I would recommend a sturdier jet to people. Like the Avanti or F-22. The point is cheap is expensive. This "$289" ended up costing me what the F-22 costs.

If you're landing it like an F-16 and not like a Navy jet, those issues probably won't be an issue at all. Ours has been flown quite a bit with literally no issues - mostly because of proper technique, though some element of luck is probably present too given lackluster QC lately in model aviation.
