You can basically eat from AM to PM all day long when you're in Tainan. 😅 BTW, foods in the Southern part of Taiwan are usually more sweet. My grand uncle used to be a famous movie poster painter back in Tainan, however it's a lost art... 😢

Dont worry, the procession was not a funeral. Looks like some temple’s festival. There are many temples in Tainan.

Just returned from a 2 weeks tour of Taiwan and I got to say the street food prices at night markets in the big cities are actually more costly than having a proper meal at a restaurant or at the food court in malls. That's just my personal view, though. 😅
@outdoor75
@outdoor75 5 күн бұрын
Yeah the prices at the night markets have gone up so much in the last 10 years. When I first got to taiwan 20 years ago everything was sooo cheap! Could get a lunch box (large one) for 40nt! (1.24 usd). Now same lunch box would set you back 3 to 4 times that.

@outdoor75 I was shocked when I went for breakfast at the Zhongshan morning market, and the bill came up to almost Twd500! And all I had was some seafood fishballs, pork knuckle and Oyster fritters. It was then I decided for the rest of the trip to dine at shops, foodcourts or restaurants. They usually have air conditioning and table service.

About the procession: In Taiwan they bring their deities, the statues, out for a walk. Can be just a circle around their temple, but sometimes they bring them to another temple, even can be they lend them out for a while to an other temple. And it's always with loud music.

First of all, welcome you and your family to travel to Taiwan. There is a strong human touch here, as well as different night markets and delicacies from different places. But the time was too short to fully explore Taiwan. Hope you are ready to spend more time and have fun in Taiwan next time.😊

My family’s hometown! I somehow still have never had coffin bread. I need to the next time I go. Love shrimp rolls. I was there in January. Look up Yan Jhen-fa for the painted movie posters! BBC wrote an article about him. I love ba wan! It’s my favorite Taiwan savory dish. I’m glad you love Tainan and the food culture as much as I do!

Right, if I remember correctly Han-Lin to me is very watery. For stronger tea flavor, I personally go to Preso-Tea. But the dominant player in South Taiwan should be 茶の魔手 or 麻古.

9:39 For most of the hand-shaked drinks here you can choose the level of sweetness even by decimal numbers. Like 1.2 for ant, 1 for normal, 0.5 for half, 0.3 for slightly, and 0 for sugar-free. Level of ice could be adjusted in this fashion, too. But beware, the level of sugar in Tainan is way different from any other city in Taiwan. Rumor says that in Tainan, sugar is in the air that you can wave a bamboo stick in the air to grab a cotton candy.😂
@StephandPete

Hi Steph :) I am currently booked to go to Taiwan towards the end of May. I wanted to ask if it is okay when this video was taken? Was it taken pre earthquake or post earthquake. I really want to go and visit but concerned about the earthquake news.
@atsaichu
@atsaichu 11 күн бұрын
I am guessing these videos (the ones so far) were from before the 403 quake according to their Instagram. Regarding post earthquake situation, except the hardest hit area like Taroko in Hualien, things quickly went back to normal. The Central Weather Admininstraion of Taiwan states that aftershocks are still expected 3 to 6 months after the main magnitude 7.2 quake. So far there have been several aftershocks of magnitude 6~7, and many more in the magnitude 4~5 range. Traveling around the island should be fine; even trains to the east coast have resumed shortly after. However, for sightseeing, I'd stay clear of Taroko for the time being since it's likely still unstable, especially since falling rocks have always been a hazard in Taroko Park whether there's an earthquake or not. That said. earthquakes in general are just unpredictable. And Taiwan, like Japan, sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire; you never know when the next one is going to hit.

@@atsaichu Thanks for your reply. I called Qantas which is the airline I've booked the tickets from and tickets to change to another country will cost me $6k (I inquired about changing to Korea) 😅 So I'll just probably just take the risk then and go for it though if I cancel my trip I'd be paying $400 instead. Thanks for your time. I really appreciate it.
@atsaichu
@atsaichu 11 күн бұрын
@@stephy3291 Taroko and some part of Hualien may be the hardest hit; most of the rest of the island is not really affected by the 403 quake. I guess news media focuses on ground zero so all we see are the toppled buildings and landslides etc. It really has been business as usual since for most of Taiwan.
@hitokiri92
@hitokiri92 11 күн бұрын
You might not be able to visit some parts of the Taroko gorge national park in Hualien. All the other places should be relatively safe and normal in Taiwan. So you should be fine. Have fun in Taiwan if you decide to visit. 🇹🇼
