Awesome video. I thought it would be all black chickens that survived the best completely free range. Or mostly jungle birds. RIR seems to be a all around good breed.

RIR are just awesome birds in every aspect! Our current flock of Easter Eggers are doing quite well ranging. 😎

Yes they are! The Easter Eggers are great for a mixed flock too.

RIR are not awesome birds if you have children! The RIRs we used to have were just flighty and not friendly, and the RIR rooster we had would attack our young children.

@@cccynova That’s surprising! Our hens were great with the kids. That’s one of my boys fondest memories. Feeding the girls grapes. They would jump incredibly high to grab one from his fingers until they figured out they could roost on his shoulders and be fed treats. He’s a lot taller now and a little disappointed our current flock won’t jump up that high.

Hi Guys - Can you do a top 5 list on chicken breeds that does well in enclosures pls. Like a chicken run, not free ranging. Love your channel!

Really enjoyed this video We have several of these rir, welsumer, i think the cream legbar should be in this group We have silkies whick are not good but the feathered feet and small size we plan on using them in a cage over the garden to protect them against predators and into the coop at night Our ayam cremini rooster is turning out to be excellent forager too....hes roosting early in our roof of our portch instead of in the coop tho lmbo but hes safe it just echos the celing early in the morning lol Free rooster im glad i fell for Bobby bee head the roo lmbo Oh the dogs dont bug him at all but he bugs the dogs lol

Love my flock of 7 Welsummers for free-ranging and their beautiful eggs. Thankfully all of mine go to the coop to lay so no hunting eggs! To me, their eggs are more beautiful than the dark Marans that so many people are crazy about. My other 9 chickens are a mixed flock, one of them being a Silver Spangled Hamburg that just escaped a hawk attack because of my dogs and me seeing it happen. Unfortunately, it did get my black and white Swedish Flower Hen about a month before. I have stayed away from owning white chickens because old timers have always told me they are eye candy for predators but I have found (in my experience) the hawks seem to zoom in on the black and white birds.

This was actually a pretty good list I would expect the first 3 listings to be more predator vulnerable. although the leghorn would be the most adept at escaping. Probably better for some kind of semi free range situation. I live in the country with alot of woods surrounding my house. I have red jungle fowl and some old English game, I've been considering the spitzhaubens and the hamburgs for cold resistance.

My white leghorns does good but I have a few big bushes and a table to hide under. They warn the others of hawks and camp out under those bushes . They don’t like being caught but do talk to me and come when called . Most flighty birds look for trouble.

The only reason the Brown Leghorn is a better free range option is the color makes for better camouflage. The White Leghorn is a great free range bird too!
